V8 Club

I searched MOCpages for a V8 club assuming their would be several and didn't find a single one! So here we are, a place where anyone who has made a LEGO version of the most glorious engine configuration ever can post it!

Engines must be 'real'- please don't post a model which says it has a V8 in the description but we can't see it. All types of V8 are invited, whether working Technic, Model Team LEGO or small scale.

Suggestions for moderators and new members welcome : ) Get posting!

I'll finish with a sticker I saw on an old Land-Rover Defender:
'It's a V8 mate!'

Wow! Thx for inviting me to your group heh~

I think that only 2 of my MOC meet your 'requirement' the R-Compressor Concept and the pimped Musatang~

Anyway, thanks for inviting me~

Interesting group. Definitely a narrow category... I guess I like it better that way; keeps it smaller. I have my dragon, http://mocpages.com/moc.php/83237, and my old truck, http://mocpages.com/moc.php/77746. But I have a rod coming soon, hopefully, (I know I'm late already) but it has an awesome engine in it. -matthew-

The main picture on my old truck doesn't show the hood open, so is it okay to upload it?

As long as it has a V8 in a picture somewhere then yes!

I say anyone entering a Specialized group like this, particularly if entering a contest, should send Real pictures of Real LEGO models -- Not those CAD Lego models that they never actually built. If you actually buy all the pieces and BUILD IT, post it. If not, find a virtual or fantasy lego league
site. I AM impressed with your design(s), but the BIGGEST part of LEGO-ing is BUILDING w/LEGO.

but you have to consider that some people can't afford the large number of parts associated with a complex build. I personally have to make do with what I can find in my already existing parts collection - no ordering from BL here.

I understand Ruud, and I repeat, the people designing models on the pc are Very talented, but they aren't real, and shouldn't be in the running for any contests is all I meant. If you dont have all the right parts to make exactly what you want, change it a little. Make something w what you do have. Im not saying you gotta go spend tons of money, just MAKE something! For 30 years i've spent countless frustrating (and satisfying) hours trying to get my projects just right, with the limited parts I had. Every model I have or have had isn't quite done, but I Made it! Wow, If I can just Draw it I can make some AWESOME humongous scale models and win every contest on the net! Maybe instead of going to work tomorrow I'll just fax in a picture of the work I Could have done. Think they'll pay me?

that just shows you've never actually used MLCAD to create something. it's not easy to use, and you still have to find the right parts - it's not like the right parts will magically appear... you still have to go through endless lists of part names to find the right one.

also, ever considered that some people can't afford any significant number of legos at all?

gah. just tried to retrofit the Skullptura with some of those (actual) chain thingies from the larger technic models. doesn't work. the chains are oversized... which can mean only one thing: a BIGGER, NASTIER, MEANER & LOUDER engine :D

Reply to the above LDD/CAD debate:

Personally I think building models using a computer is just as hard as in real life- I've made a few myself (although I don't post them) but I completely agree that it's not the same as a real model.

That said I don't really consider any 'unlimited bricks' model to be all that great, whether digital or real. Some of the real models on this site are amazing, but when every single brick has been specially bought to make them I just don't respect them, even though the results are stunning.

I'll use football analogy to explain: Chelsea were bought by a Russian Billionaire, who then bought the club the worlds best players and the world's best manager. When they won no-one thought 'well done Chelsea', they thought 'they don't deserve this', despite the club's hard work.

The same applies to LEGO. I guess I consider it cheating in a way; buying rather than earning the final creation. The results may look really good, but I find it hard to like them.

hey guys

i've been thinking of creating a group of MOCs under the title "V8 U(niversity)", showing how to build medium-scale V8 engines with LEGOs, what to watch out for, etc. i'd also add a host of accessories - manifolds, turbochargers etc.

would anybody be interested in "V8 U"?

Sounds like a great idea! Although why stop at V8s? It might have broader appeal if it was simply a group on how to make engines (although obviously the V8s would be the best!)

Either way I'd join! : ) However, if you want to use this group for V8 U I'll happily upgrade your status to 'Admin' and below 'Engine of the Month' could be a whole V8 U section.

i dunno, i just figured it'd be the best/easiest engine to start with, since it's not only iconic, but also big enough to handle all sizes of bolt-on accessories.

Yeehaaaaaw!! I got V8 of the month! Thanks, Ape! So, should I add those engines to the group, or do they have to be in a car to qualify?

Could be in anything (or nothing) provided it's a V8 (so yup, add yours!). V8 boats, trucks, lawnmowers, if it has a v8 it's welcome here : )

A message from our sister group:

To all Rod Club members, admins and moderators- Thank you!!

It's been 9 months(ish) since we launched, back before MOCpages even had a proper place for clubs, and in that time we've reached 82 creations, 14 Rod Of The Moments, 50 members and, wait for it- 49 elite Rods!

So, although it's a bit early for our 1st Birthday, I reckon some awards are due!

Awards and voting are often unsuccessful here on MOCpages, possibly because they're overused (which is why we've refrained from launching a contest every week) but now I think we should have some!

So basically, it's over to our members to suggest who has made the best contributions to MOCpages oldest club. Best Rod? Most ridiculous engine? Best ambassador for Rods? Best contribution? Make up an award!

There's no official awards as such, but there are plenty of people who we can show our appreciation towards in the form of a written 'thank you'.

So Rodders, over to you!

(P.S- who will be Elite Rod number 50?!)

I think it's a great idea, especially to guide people like me with hardly any engine knowledge/expertise.

Your cars are perfect for this group - and really really well made too. Some of the best medium scale muscle cars on MOCpages in fact.

I don't put much effort into this group - it kinda ticks over itself. Happy to make more admins if they want to push the group on a bit though. Most of my time is spend on The Rod Club and Classic Race Teams

Responsible deactivating...

Just to let you know that like The Rod Club am I no longer updating the V8 group homepage. The group will of course still be accepting new members and creations, I am simply ceasing updating activity.

There are now *thousands* of groups on MOCpages (mostly inactive!) and few if any have wound down properly, hence trying to do it properly here.

Keep your creations coming, 'V8' is not being deleted, it's just now like almost all of the other MOCpages groups; simply a folder for creations of a certain theme.

Happy Building

Ape : )
