it says in the books that the UNSC beats all covenant on the ground, without spartan help.

I just finished reading "The Fall of Reach" and I remember it saying that the spartans always win on the ground. Though in all fairness the Covies. would only go ground side if there was some Forerunner tech. they wanted. Mostly they would just glass the planet from orbit.

in halo wars it says that the UNSC beats its covenant equivalent. but that clearly is not the case in space.

"The Fall of Reach" was written within close proximity with Bungie during the development of Halo: Combat Evolved. But it doesn't really matter, Like I said it was rare when the Covenant fought on the ground.

Sure the famous ones it's hard to make an engagement famous when it's a one sided orbital bombardment. They only wen't on the ground to recover Forerunner relics otherwise the planet wasn't worth their time so they glassed it. There is no need to waist troops when you don't need them. The books mainly focus on the Main engagements, because thats when humanity could actually do something, but there were thousands of other colonies that were also systematically wiped out.

actually there are only 16 colonies not thousands. And i know that the covenant doesnt go down to every planet.

One really wierd thing about halo 2 is Regret somehow had no idea Earth had people on it, because in First Strike the covenant was assembling a massive fleet to take out earth, but most of the fleet was detroyed.

I might be wrong, but I thought that Reach was supposed to have all the fancy defenses and Earth didn't have as much.

its the other way around. Reach had 15 MAC platforms and Earth had 300 mainly because Earth was the highest priority. And the MAcstations at earth had just been completed when the covenant came.

reach had 20, but I know what you mean Though they did catch Earth off guard with the initial invasion so it probably gave them enough time to hit the MACs and slip by before they were ready.

oh right reach did have 20 sorry i havent read the book in a while. Earth wasnt glassed mainly because the covenant was looking for the ark. In Ghosts of Onyx the spartans mention that a covenant ship was underwater around south america searching for something. But in ODST it said that New Mombasa was the only place the covenant was that may be true but they didnt stay only there for long.

Well Regret showed up, got killed and his ship bugged out, then the rest of the fleet shows up and starts burning Africa looking for the Arc. Until they find the portal which gets opened bu the Forerunner ship that truth took.

Spartans take a life time to make. And their equipment and augmentation processes are expensive.

Even if the equipment and augmentation processes were free, you'd still have to wait at least 15 years before the Spartan is ready for battle.

Remember, Spartans are taken when they are 6 years old. They're not ready for combat until at least 20 years old I would think.

They also selected the best of the best children, and only half survived the augmentation process. Also if they just took every kid there would be huge political fallout. They would never be able to keep the procedures a secret on such a scale.

"facepalm" if you read the books they also clone to make supersolders so they could clone humans so no they could make a spartan every month

I believe they cloned the children to hide the fact that they took them, and the clones died like 6 months later.

They only flash-clone the Spartan children and send the clones to the parents.

Cloning is also an impractical method because you'd still have to teach it.

It.

I don't think humanity wants it's soldiers to be "it's"

Plus with the ridiculous amount of ODSTs and soldiers, it really doesn't matter.

UNSC troops only seem useless in the game because you're a Spartan. You're supposed to be better. So Bungie made Marines seem virtually incapable of combat.

But in reality they'd do a fine job.
