When i started on this site, I had no idea about presentation, but had a good eye for it, and so bided my time until I had a decent camera, a decent computer, and now a decent connection. Now as I improve in my computer graphics skills, I found it impossible to consider uploading a Moc without it being first altered. Who's with me on that? Some say that the FX take from the Moc, but isn't the point of all this art? I say long live adding FX to a Moc, and well done ElBarto on starting a group discusiing it. I have to admit, it wasn't until I saw your BSG stuff, that I really started upping the ante on my FX output, simple as they may be. But my Mocs are looking better than ever now so cheers for the inspiration...

Wow, that's quite a opening to the thread! Obviously, I agree with all that, especially how your recent builds have turned out. Of course it depends on the MOC and its scale. I had a heck of a time setting up a 'bed sheet studio' for the Galactica in a place with decent lighting. Now I just set up on my dining room table in front of a huge picture window. And I would never be able to recreate the scenes from the show that I do without the whole FX thing. I think it brings everything to life and opens up a whole new dimension to what we can do here. I'm also pleased to see how many members this group has attracted. What's especially exciting is how much some of the member's have accomplished with their new found artistic skills! That's why I named the group It Isn't Rocket Surgery, because it certainly isn't!

Well, after I started with my first few Fx shots, I went back and redid everything! In fact, I've been thinking about re-redoing a few, like my Raptor. Plus, I upgraded the micro main batteries on the Galactica, so I went back and replaced those shots. I see that your Transport has even surpassed the Roadster! Congrats, Dude!

Thanx man, yeh, I've been going through my page deleting anything that i don't like. I have been brutal, it's like im really fussy now when as before i was uploading anything! hehe, he way i figure it, if a page has few, but exellent builds, it is easier to truly visit it and check the builds out. I will have to go through your page again soon,

Throw another shrimp on the Barbie! Looks awesome! Just commented on that one. I also like how you're doing the hangar deck with the lighting, it's a clever way to avoid having to make a giant set with 10000 smooth tiles. Although 2X4's Galactica deck is pretty cool...

hehehe, you noticed that hey... Yeh 2x4's takes alot of effort, although i am working on an idea to aprroach a more Lego centric background eventually. But it does make for a nice shot just the plain backgrounds and nice deck like lighting... Cheers mate...

In my CIC I cheated by using old classic space baseplates upside down.

There's a brief instruction over in the First Victim thread. I wrote The instead of Then a few times for some reason, but I think you can figure it out. Let me know how it works out!

Frack! What's up with that? I wonder if they'll have a patch or something? I still have XP on my computer. Steve McLeod uses Paint Shop Pro V6. It's free, too. Not familiar with it, but if you respond to his comment over in the New Members thread, I bet he could give you some pointers.

Check to see what kind of file it is. Should be JPEG, I think. When I save stuff, there are three different steps I have to go through to 'export' or something along those lines. Try accessing it from 'my computer' and 'my pictures' or one of those paths instead of through the program. See if that leads anywhere.

Anyone have a good idea for adding condensation trails behind a plane (or remember a MOC that shows this). I found it difficult because of the diffused nature of the trail. Didn't seem like cutting out a solid object.

It's actually easy to accomplish, it just takes a while.

First you'll want to make a new layer. Use the Paths tool to draw the path of the trail, and then draw a solid line on it with the options. Set the gaussian blur to a minimum of 25 and blur it once or twice.

Place this layer under the one with your aircraft. For a short trail, this is all you need to do.

For a long trail that fades in the distance, you'll need to copy the the layer twice. The bottom one you'll leave be.

The next one up will have the 'farthest' third erased. the one on top will only have the "nearest" third to the aircraft. Combine ONLY these three layers and gaussian blur it.

Hope this works as well for you as it did for me.

I would have just used the spray paint tool with a bit of jitter added, but I'm sure Barto's method would end up much more professional looking.

Right. I guess that's what happens when somebody throws out such a good technique, your mind gets blown for a second and you forget who actually said it!

Hey Guys Im also looking for a better way to do lazers. Here is a link to my lastest Graphic Novel Update to give you an idea what I have done so far. http://mocpages.com/moc.php/300364 What I mean is the effects around the lazer blast as well as the explosion coming from the tip of the lazer cannon. As of now all I have done is place a supernova on the tip of the cannon and then use a burn or dodge tool and have it fade out to give a nice lazer looking blast. But I was hoping to add some crazy FX to the lazer. Like maybe a spiral around the lazer or what not. Sorry if this is confusing. just trying to make my stuff as realistic as possible. Thanks guys...
