FUN CHAT #100
 Group admin
WE'VE DONE IT!

Welcome friends and family (not really hehe, just friends I guess) to the TFOLPC's ONE-HUNDREDTH FUN CHAT !!!

It's been a long time! And I mean a really long time!

Lets get some dates and stuff in here to make things feel a little more nostalgic...

September 14, 2010 - the group was created (by me). It was first intended to be a small group for my friends and my friend's friends, but it quickly expanded and became a super uber awesome group :) At first it was a bit problematic. There was a lot of fighting, not wanting to obey rules, and stuff like that. A couple of these "rebellions" occured but it seems that our oasis of peace and awesomeness has been reached :)

October 13, 2010, 4:21 pm - the first Fun Chat topic was created (by meesa)
This historic event was over three years ago and here we are, at the grandbaby of this great discovery of humankind.

January 9, 2011 - 10,000 commments!! (topic, posted by me, of course, what did you expect) 10,000 comment officially posted by our awesome admin (then not as awesome and not as administrative) Deus.

...since then we've attempted moving to the forums twice, and come back, and made it to over 40,000 comments, and are STILL the Most Discussed Group on MOCpages!!!

Congratulations everyone for this awesome accomplishment! :)

I think its time for a contest :)

Anyways - in my memorable words 99 fun chats ago:
Talk about anything here! Have fun everyone, and remember the rules :)

Yeah, but air resistance is a major factor. Indeed, wind direction is also key. Temperature, clothing, motivation, energy, and just generally good kicks will also play into the game. Yeah, we are sooooo losing....

Presuming that the outfielders can reach as high as 2.5m, they are 25m out, and you kick with an average youth kick speed of 15m/s, you'll need to kick at an angle of 70.4 degrees above the horizontal. This ignores air resistance.

However, it's unlikely that the outfielders are 25m away. More likely they're 15-20...

That affects force, which will affect initial velocity. If you alter Fa you can maintain Vi of 15.

Indeed. I am guessing we will be using a soccer ball (we can nick one from the soccer team) but still, this will be interesting. I don't know what the girls on the swim team will do, but the guys will be good. I suppose the girls are to represent distraction (but we also have girls).

No, I want to maintain photographic integrity. ;) If I want to apply "filters" to my photos, I'll pull out a circular polarizer.

I'm considering moving into the realm of professional photography, still have a ways to go yet though...

And 200 is pretty impressive, even if Flickr members are compulsory stalkers.

Eh, I don't use the filters, as they just make the pictures even worse than before. Pro photography is a pretty cool step which would be fun to take. Do you own any programs like Adobe Photoshop CS4? It would really help you out.

Yeah, around 200. I can't exactly remember. It is true though, they see everything....

I have Elements 11, which is currently more than enough for my purposes. If I can justify spending 1000 bucks on CS6 or something later on I'll definitely do so.

Don't post things on Flickr for publicity. It takes a lot longer to get popular there, (From my experience) and then people who have accounts both places, (here and there) just leave a comment on Flickr and don't say anything here. :/

I dunno about that know, but Flickr is mostly a photography community. The LEGO guys make up, what, less than 3% of the fellas over there?

As for the niche and all. When it comes to building LEGO military, most certainly there are more than 1 or 2 :-D

I dunno about that know, but Flickr is mostly a photography community. The LEGO guys make up, what, less than 3% of the fellas over there?

Probably less, but from what I can tell a lot of people just sort of dump their photos on Flickr, and aren't really part of the community at all.
The LEGO people are definitely one of the more active sections of Flickr.

Agreed. But even so, I think of overall, its kinda of closed community over there. Here on MP, you can discover who knows how many new builders via the front page. Unless you know people from other sites, its hard to get into the FOL community over there....

Yeah, and there's so many different little LEGO cliques on Flickr, you can only really hope to get accepted into a couple of them.

I think that inactivity hurts you less on Flickr than it does on MOCpages though. I've been somewhat inactive on both sites lately, but my most recent builds were much more popular on Flickr than they were on MOCpages.

Yeah, that is true. It's easier to see your contacts, or well, people that you follow, creations on Flickr.

One thing I don't like about Flickr, though, is that most builders take one photo, and that's it. After investing hours of work, one photo?!

Absolutely, especially if you have a camera that shoots RAW files. Adobe Camera RAW is great to touch up the colours and get the exact exposure/contrast/vibrance you want. Then photoshop itself is fantastic for further editing such as cloning and backdrop removal. Also, if you don't shoot RAW you can still do many colour and lighting adjustments like colour levels to JPEGs to improve exposure. Layers allow you to use things like linear light high pass filters to get awesome microsharpening, and you can fine tune hues so that you might only alter the hues of a range of magentas or something. (Great for skin tones.) Of course, there's also a nice variety of lasso tools and layer techniques for removing backdrops. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but you can basically Google anything you want to do and find 100 articles on it.

Woah--sounds very useful. Thanks for the quick feedback, it's nice to have a review from someone who I know uses it (at least partly) for Lego photography ;)
