Categories:
Round 1 will have 3 categories. Builders may build in any ONE of the three, it does not matter which category you choose. Round 2 will have two categories and the Final Four may build in either category they wish. Each category will have a theme and rules. Failure to follow the theme or rules is a DQ. So, read, re-readÖ.then read it again!
Round 1 Categories:
Spooky Halloween Vig: Build a Halloween vig that gives the viewer the creeps. NO gore or blood. Base must be 8x8, you may build an overhang beyond 8x8 higher up as long as the base remains 8x8.
Gore Halloween Vig: Here it is for all you blood and gore lovers, build a grotesque, disgusting, gory vig with a Halloween theme. This one MUST have a bit of blood and/or gore. 8x8 base, same overhang rules as the Spooky Vig.
Classic Monster Vig: Build a vig using one or more classic monsters. Monsters allowed are: Dracula, The Mummy, Frankensteinís Monster, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, or the Phantom of the Opera. NO modern monsters will be allowed; no Jasonís, Freddyís, etc. If you have a monster idea I did not list, ask in the Category Questions thread. Same vig size rules as above.
Round 2 Categories:
Monster Movie Diorama: Not a vig, but a diorama with the base being at least 16x16. In this, you must build a scene from a monster movie, no restrictions on which one, so you want to do modern, go ahead.
Trick This!: Build a Halloween diorama depicting the trick or treat element in Halloween. Donít know what that is? Look it up.

Would Sci-fi creatures be allowed in the diorama or classic monster vignette, such as the ones in "They Came from Outer-space!" And the like?

A diorama is at least 16x16 studs. I reckon you can make one bigger than that. Also, I hope you are aware that this is a 2nd round category. You'd have to build from round 1 category first and advance.

A classic film like that would be allowed. Let's say a monster from any movie originally made prior to 1970, ok?

Shifu is right, worry about advancing to round 2 first, only the top 4 advance.

For the record, i'd probably build purist, but I just saw my BA machetes and got an idea.....

In my MOC it's not THE Black Knights, it's his ghost. Is that good, or would I have to have a different character?

Quoting Wiki
The black knight is a literary stock character, often contrasted with the white knight. The character was developed in Arthurian legend and has been adapted and adopted by various authors, in cinema and popular culture. The black knight character can also be associated with the chess piece. The character is sometimes associated with death and has also been discussed in relation to race issues in fiction.

Technically speaking the Black knight is fair game....HOWEVER, it is a very vague character and as such may not hold as much value to your build as say "The Creature from the Black Lagoon." So your building skills better be stepping up to compensate for your weak character.

As for anyone starting right now, you best be tearing it up now! You can draw, plot, plan, study, research, watch movies on the subject, talk about it, dream about it, etc. 'till your little heart's desire.....but if you slap brick-to-brick before Oct. 1st. you WILL be DQ'd. That was the ONLY warning I will give on that.

Read the rules kids. Over, and over, and over again until October first.

A good suggestion for you kids (I'm looking at Phipson here) is Mystery Science Theater 3000. They play a lot of movies from the 60's that would fit the horror category and most of them are available for instant play on Netflix, if you have it available.

Thanks for attempting to answer Swift, but I got this. Sweeney Todd would count as a classic monster, or in gore, or spooky. Sweeney Todd is a fictional character who first appeared as the antagonist of the Victorian penny dreadful The String of Pearls (1846Ė1847). 1846 is a long time before 1970, so you are good.

OK, listen up. I did not think I had to spell this out in the rules, but some of you just do not get it. A vignette for our purposes is defined as follows: any small, pleasing picture or view.
So, sticking a mech on an 8x8 base is not a vig. Sticking a figure on an 8x8 base is not a vig. These will probably be DQed.
Also, many of you are simply building what you want as large as you want and placing a thin or 1x1 base on the bottom. This is also NOT a vig. I am inclined to DQ all of you who have done that, but since it was not spelled out in the rules, I will not. In future, follow the 8x8 base rule as Firn, Phipson, Leda and many others did. Those are vignettes. That is why I posted the one of mine, the Journey one, so you all could get an idea. For those that have not posted, look at it again or the ones I mentioned above and build your vigs correctly. For those of you that did not, be prepared for the judges to take points off for abusing the standard 8x8 vig rule.
I have posted two examples, have a gander, yes, I said "a gander".
Have a pleasant day.
