((If you don't understand what's happening, READ THE END OF CHAPTER FOUR))

In the distance, the shadows of the Black Spike Mountains rose ominously around them, almost obscured from view by the ash thrown up from recent volcano hyperactivity.

"So this is what an meteor does to a planet, eh?"

Haro needed to say no more. The trees that had decided to grow in the Valley of the Maze hung with thick ash. The hypersonic shuttle, despite it's recent arrival in the vally, was growing an ash coat of it's own. Beyond the trees, a nest of tall buildings rose, their bulbous ends skyward.

The Maze.

Perhaps the only place the skrall fear, the Maze is shrouded in mystery. All the teams sent out to investigate it never returned, and the Order never saw any point in bombing it. Not that thy hadn't tried - and failed.

It is also shrouded by a forest that sprouted up a century ago, and as of two days, in a thick, gloomy, ash-based mist.

---

[North Pole, impact crater]

The hypersonic shuttle had left over quarter of an hour ago, giving the Beings plenty of time to regroup and start fixing their ship, with the intention of following the shuttle. At least, that's what everyone thought. If Merinalas had any other ideas, she didn't voice them.

It also gave the exo-toa that had been fired at them plenty of time to boot up.

Their dark, shapeless forms rose up from all around the base of the impact crater.

---

Enias stood at the top of the shuttle's passenger ramp, handing out complicated-looking silver rifles from one of the weapons crates.

No-one really took notice of him until he actually fired one of them at the nearest toa.

Then EVERYONE was listening.

"This is an electro-magnetic surge arm, or, rather, an EMSA."

He gestured to the unfortunate victim lying face down in the ash-coated forest floor.

"They are, primarily, not lethal weapons. While they can be used to knock most people out as I've just demonstrated, they are more commonly used as weapons against more mechanical constructs."

The makuta gestured to their valley surroundings.

"Here, we have a most dangerous enemy: the Baterra."

Kor couldn't fight, he knew that. what he could do was create. However creation takes a lot of focus and energized protodermis. The exo-toa was keeping both of those from him. Before it had powered up He'd managed to use the remaining power from the energized protodermis and the ships debris to make a strong shelter. That's were he was bunkered down with the remaining great beings. "Well, what the plan? I was personally hoping you guys could kill that thing so I could make us some sort of transport or superweapon or something. Any other ideas?"

Kor was also aware that the great beings didn't trust him. his protective act of building the shelter had bought him some manner of acquaintance but they still didn't trust him.

She had devised a solution to her dilemma. She took Punishment, and pierced the ice. She then used the electric charge in the sword to heat it up. After a few minutes, the sword left a sizable hole is the shelf. Not an efficient way, yet it was far better than using her hands. ((2 hours later)) "Well, that was repetitive." Merinalas said to herself. She had created a tunnel small enough for her to crawl through, and she now stood atop the massive glacier. She turned around and headed to where she was before.((3.5 hours later)) This was perplexing. The shuttle was gone. She could still see a trail of smoke((the shuttle is very damaged)) to the south.((is it the north or south pole?))

D'mrali was genuinely terrified. These natives seemed very inaccurate with their fire. The new rifles they were wielding could take down machines in one or more shots. he was 94% mechanical. However, the being's Battera... They too, were mechanical. He just might.... just might be able to "get" into one. He went to speak with Enias. "Enias? Please, don't kill all of them. I have plans for one."

((There are more than one exo-toa. Let us say there are approximately... twenty-five functional exo-toa units spread unevenly out from the main impact crater within a five click(km) radius.))

The impact crater was a big place - over ten clicks long and nearly as much wide.

The exo-toa just made the Great Beings feel even smaller. Their monstrous inhuman forms towered in the distance. A couple of scouts manged to report their size - about four metres - and little else.

There were five in the base of the crater alone, and goodness knows how many more over the lip.

The Beings needed to fix their ship. And fast.

It was not long before the nearest exo-toa managed to target Kor's shelter, and launched it's powerful electro-rocket.

The makuta looked genuinely surprised.

"The Gladiators have Baterra?... No, there must be some kind of mistake. Their Baterra will, in all probability, be wildly different to the Architect ones."

Enias looked thoughtful.

"We will see. I presume you want to try and hack one, yes?"

[Kyrinz]

Well as luck would have it, Merinalas had been thrown in the complete opposite direction as Kyrinz. And to make thigs worse, there was at least a score of Exo-Toa roaming the area, searching for anything worthy of being blown to bits.

Even as he watched, one of the Exo-Toa raised its launcher and began bombarding what looked like a small, polished, metal hut.

He began eyeing his surroundings, looking for the best way to navigate the situation. He could run completely around all of them, but whatever was in that shelter didn't have enough time for that. Therefore, he had to go straight through.

*Well*, Kyrinz thought, *At least I still have my weapons.*

Picking his first target, a robot standing about a 1/2 kilometer away, Kyrinz started running, and he prayed that his fighting skills weren't as rusty as he feared.

These mysterious metal giants roamed about, a laser sight on their shoulders, searching. Merinalas held up her rifle. Aiming straight at the sight, she mumbled" This looks important." before shattering the thing to bits. She then focused on the head. After the "eyes" were disabled, the beast blindly charged at her. She takes ou the legs. It crawls desperately to find it's target. The arms are gone. The metal "Exo-Toa" was no more.

((Also, someone get our party moving. I want Merinalas to arrive sometime after they enter the Maze.))

((What I think will be appropriate is if we focus on the Being's situation for now, do a good few posts and get them fixing the ship,

THEN switch over to the Order, do a couple of posts for them and get them deep inside the Maze

THEN have the Beings arrive, either on foot, on one of the Aurora's sub-transports or on the Aurora itself.

Plus I have some plan for the Capries inside Kor, and a rather ugly secret concerning the Baterra...

"Soooon, my Preciousness, sooooon..."))

Exo-toa, while being improbably adaptable, have infamously problematic auto-pilots.

The only solution was either to remotely control the things - which wasn't an option given the sheer amount of volcanic debris in the atmosphere clogging up the airways.

The only answer was to have an actual on-site Field Mechanic, which presented some interesting technical difficulties.

He was a toa of gravity, and his name was Daeas.

It was an ugly thing, Daeas's exo-toa, far bigger than any of the other units. Thick plates of reinforced non-magnetic protodermis protected him from the cold ouside world. A plamatic railgun acted as a long range arm, and two anti-gravity repulsors acted as a slightly less lethal short range weapon.

Within the workings of the exo-toa, various screens informed Daeas of the local topology, the location of the other exo-units and their levels of activity.

A number of unit flatlining brought something to the toa's attention: the crater five hundred metres away

A brief hypermicro geo-topological scan made an accurate floor plan of the crater, and noted a number of areas of strategical worth.
It was a big thing, half a click deep and ten clicks in diameter.

And an equally large, golden spaceship was hovering inside it.

Daeas activated a cannibalized Kakama Nuva((mask of speed)) that was attached to the outside of his exo-toa, and sped deep into the crater, into the path of one Being: Kyrinz.

((Hmm, didn't know that.))
Merinalas had been having trouble with all these Exo-Toa. She had then solved this problem. First the Lazor Targetor, then the eyes, then knock off the legs, then the arms. Problem solved. She was rather fascinated with tearing these machines asunder. She sees a grey-orange blur arriving at the horizon, then it disappears. A Kakama, obviously. Her very own mask had a number of different functionalities, so she gave chase.

Kor took the Exo-toas powering down as a sign that it was safe enough for him to emerge from the shelter. He made his way over to merlinias stopping to dip his staff in the puddles of energized protodermis that leaked out of the wrecks that once were Exo-toa. "This will be more than enough" He thought to himself. He used his new found powers to create sheilds for him self to block fire from the remaining exo-toa. When he made it over to where merlinias was standing he saw that the other GB was dealing with the remaining exo-toa in a golden blur. "Good job, with all the robots I mean. At various intervals, Daeas was assulted with force and light before his exo-toa was ground to a halt as the kakama gently overheated.

The heat sensors told him that over ten individuals of an unknown nature were in the vicinity. One was on his back((Merinalas)), and the other was slowly approaching him.

Although it was a bit hard to tell with all the explosions.

Daeas shut down his exo-toa to conserve energy, and started typing into a keyboard. Thankfully, not all the units were driven by the autopilot.

Some were driven by shadow kraata.

He quickly entered the sequence for a protocol that would abruptly transform the exo-toa into rahkshi.

From the outside, it would appear as though they were shutting down.

That series of commands finshed, Daeas focused on removing whatever was attached to his back.

A crackle of energy preceded a number of mechanical coils errupting from the exo-toa, gripping hold of the intruder and electrifying it.

Apparently the Machine was attempting to electrocute Merinalas. It was not succeeding. The "intruder" pulled the bolts from her armor. She gave then a shock of her own. Punishment began to cracke, then glow, eventually arcing throughout the Mech's interior.

[Kyrinz]

So, his fighting skills weren't so rusty after all.

It had been relatively easy to take down the first few robotic armor suits. All it required was a bit of quick thinking and some magnetic power. All he did was immobilize them for long enough to strike at a few choice weak points, effectively shutting the things down.

Being an engineer did sometimes have its perks.

Merinalas had joined in the fight as well, and was doing quite a bit of damage. She was accompanied by some other... thing... that was creating things out of thin air. It looked familiar, but he couldn't place it's features.

Merinalas was currently engaging a massive specimen of an Exo-Toa, almost twice as large as the others. She had her twin blades sunk deep into its back, but it didn't seem very perturbed.

He turned and left her to her business. She could handle that just fine.

Rotating on the spot, Kyrinz looked for his next target. There was one, only 30 feet away, that seemed to be just standing there. He charged, swinging his dagger.

Once he reached 20 feet, he started slowing down. The thing hadn't even moved.

At 10 feet, he halted. The robot hadn't budged an inch.

Something was off.

He approached it slowly, magnetic powers at the ready. He could hear a slight, slow *tick-tock* noise coming from its center, like a clock winding down.

Then with a roar of noise, the Exo-Toa reared up, armor shifting, rotating, and transforming into a much bigger and agile looking form. Hidden spines erupted from a hunched back, and a slithering hiss echoed from somewhere in the thing's chest. Kyrinz took a surprised step back as a head emerged with glowing orange eyes, staring down at him in an awfully predatory way.

Kyrinz began to back up, but the thing took two steps and grabbed him around the neck. With a excruciatingly loud scream, it flung him through the air. Straight into Merinalas.

*Once again*, Kyrinz thought, *Today is not my day.*

The interruption of the eletric coils gave Kor time to think of an excuse for not being the captain. while he was thinking he saw about 5 of the metal hulks that had stopped moving start moving again, differently. When he saw one of his worst childhood fears X100 charging towards him he knew he had to do something "creative". He had a lot of power stored in his staff from all the downed exo-toa and there would be plenty more. He could afford something big. right when the enormous metal rakshi was about to smash him with it's enormous metal spear time slowed down as Kor's eyes glowed golden again and bits of metal and sand surrounded him. so when time returned to it's normal flow the rakshi didn't crush a small hybrid; it smashed face first into an even bigger exo-great being. "This should be good." Kor said as he smashed in the rakshi's head. ((Tenga toppa. The mech's not gonna stay. I wanted to do something fun though. To clarify though Kor needs energized protodermis to channel his power through his staff. if he has a lot saved up he can do big things (such as make a giant robot) with out it though he can't do much.))

Daeas felt an abrupt shock. No loose wires-it was his attacker, attacking him. Merinalas pulled Punishment from the Exo-Toa's back to turn around and see an oddly familiar contraption racing towards her. A Rakshi. She remembered them well- Once, she had been told a story in which her father assaulted a Arkitekt compound, only to find the mechanical abominations, and a bunch of corpses. Naturally, she ran for her life. Swords in hand, she dashed past a confused Capries ((Merinalas is unaware of the fact that "Capries" is actually Kor)) and ducked behind a few rocks.

((This story is one of those. It could, without much effort, go on for a considerable amount of time.

The two options would be to

a) start a parallel RP to this one (which could be potentially very confuddling)

b) leave WGF on a cliffhanger chapter that we can continue at any time (although this presents the challenge of unfeasible continuity and may leave a really good RP to rot)

I think the ending is something that needs a little more thought.

On the subject of admins, we don't just need a reliable omnipresent one, we need more of them.

Frankly, heaping the running of the group on one individual has in the past been a major catalyst in pushing the group towards inactivity. Having a number of new admins means that there should be at least one available at any give time.

It also means that more than one person is all-powerful xD))

((Ok, let's get on with the story.))

Daeas took his chances while the Beings were distracted with the rahkshi attack, and fully booted up his exo-toa.

He was swiftly thereafter informed my Order Command that his primry objective had been fulfilled: a data report had arrived in the wireless server, and it was one referencing to him.

You see, the exo-toa the Order had supplied Daeas with (excluding his own) were auite archaic models, far cries from the more recent versions. They were more or less cannon fodder, with onlt one real purpose: to gather informatio about the enemy.

They had been equipped with comparably more advanced wireless blackboxes, with which every mode of attack, every form of defence, every potential weakness and strength on both the exo-toa's part and the Beings was recorded into.

It was these the data report stemmed from: a compiliation of empirical field data. A useful, even deadly tool.

As his exo-toa moved away with a speed that belied it's size, Daeas was amused to find that, on checking the data report, one of the blackboxes had even managed to temporarily attach itself to "the hybrid". The results from particular piece of serendipidy would certainly be interesting.

He quickly set the equipment acid-destruct sequence for the rest of the exo-toa wreckage, and set a course for the Valley of the Maze.

((Not for long, my many-limbed friend!))

Midday in the Valley of the Maze, and it's raining.

Razor-thin drops of water hurl themselves at the thick forest below, washing away two day's worth of ash in little more than an hour. Above them, a whirling tempest makes it quite difficult for one of the Order's black, boxy dropships to land.

Things are very different from how they were twenty-four hours ago. The entire valley is swarming with the Order. Huge, black, modern-looking exo-toa lumber about a temporary compound made from curious monochromatic cubes, carrying splintered timbers.

Various order soldiers were bunked in with D'mrali, and one of them said;"These Battera... have you fought them before?" D'mrali's reply was "No. I have fought such monsters similar to these shape-shifters. In my experience, any Great Being technology is extremely dangerous." Another asked,"What if the gods themselves came down here to smite us?" One said,"They're not gods, Ihstu((Ih-STEW)). They're malevolent, evil, destructive monstrosities."((Guess who?)) Ihstu said to the reptilian who just spoke,"Look, Valmros, I know the Great Beings destroyed most of your species millenia ago, but don't get so angry with me." Valmros turned to D'mrali. "What my religious friend is trying to say, is, what if the Great Beings came down here with their ships, their guns and their hydrogen bombs?" "We," D'mrali said, "Would be doomed."

((Sorry. The past few weeks have been absolutely NUTS for me. I have been able to follow the story, but not much else.))

[Kyrinz]

With a loud groan, Kyrinz opened his eyes. He had been knocked out when that rahkshi thing threw him, and his head was still swimming from the impact. As his vision cleared, he noticed that Merinalas was looking down at him from nearby. He could have sworn that her expression was one of disappointment, but it vanished so quickly that he couldn't tell for sure.

With a slight shake of his head, Kyrinz slowly sat up and looked around. The first thing he noticed was the lack of any Exo-Toa. All that remained were a few hissing puddles, some random nuts and bolts, and the head of one of those mechanical rahkshi. He shuddered and looked up. The sky was much brighter than before, and he realized that the sun was rising.

He let out another, louder groan. They had been fighting all night, and he was tired!

As Kyrinz was recovering, the strange being he had seen earlier walked into the edge of his vision. Once again, Kyrinz got the odd feeling that he knew the stranger from somewhere, but he couldn't be sure. His features seemed awfully twisted and asymmetrical, like a bad fusion of... something or other.

With a grunt, Kyrinz braced himself and started to stand. Almost immediately, his vision got dark and legs threatened to buckle. But before he could fall, the stranger was by his side and grabbing his arm in an iron grip. He stayed like that, trying not to black out, for a few long moments. The stranger let up once he could finally lock his legs and stand up straight.

"Watch yourself", the stranger said. "You took quite the hit."

Kyrinz looked at him for a long moment. Feeling very stupid, Kyrinz asked, "Who are you?"

((I'll go into a little more detail about Kyrinz. He has a modified Mask of Creation. It allows him to envision exactly how and what he would need to create something, but it doesn't allow him to actually create something. He has to do that himself. His mask can also be used to repel things, like Krika's mask. It also has limited powers of regeneration. So, it's mostly just useful for engineering. Kyrinz doesn't have many Arkitect powers, as they are mostly repressed by the other Gladiators. Being an Arkitect is frowned on in their society.))

"Hmm, I'm going to kill that lying b**tard when I get the chance." Merinalas said under her breath. She turned to Kyrinz. "Kyrinz, Deploy a shield. Now." The GB's Drop-Defender Portable Energy Shield was rather infamous among the civilized planets(excluding Spherius Magna, of course), due to the fact that it was nigh impenetrable. Kyrinz, somewhat good at following orders, planted a DDPES in the ice beneath their feet. Sure enough, a large bubble of hexagons surrounded them immediately. Explosions then began to sound off. The view from inside the sphere was absolutely awe-inspiring.

((?? WDTM?

I am starting to get that nagging feeling again...

AGAIN))

Enias looked between the toa's holograph and the data report that had been spewed out by the telegrapher a few minutes earlier into the very temporary, spartan communications room.

"So it's still attached?"

The toa's image went black for a moment, and then reverted to normal.

"I think so. They must have incorporated it ((the black-box)) into the armour itself."

Enias turned away, deep in contemplation.

"I think we will leave it for now. We can track him ((Kor)), no?"

The toa of gravity nodded.

Enias reciprocated, satisfied.

"That will be all. When will we be seeing you?"

"A matter of hours. Depends whether the kakama cools down enough..."

The toa of gravity signed off with a mock salute, probably all he could manage in the cramped exo-toa confines, and the screen went blank, leaving Enias to contemplate the data report.

Ghaile motioned to her cohorts around her to move forward, and they did so, silently skirting around ash-laden rotting timbers.

The quiet of the forest was absolute, unnaturally so, though Ghaile. This kind of silence did not come naturally, even after a natural disaster.

A faint creaking noise grew to a sharp cracking as one of the greater ironwoods slowly toppled, scattering the team in all directions. After four hours of noiseless scouting, the sound was almost deafening.

It was a few moments before everyone recovered their wits. Ghaile's head of security strode over confidently to examine the torn stump. After some consideration, he made an announcement to his superior.

"This was certainly not accident. A tree as thick as this does not simply-"((walk into Mordor))

Ronin fell with a silent, pained expression. His second in command and an old friend, a green eyed male Vortixx named Zaariah hurried to his side, checking the Skrall's condition while tossing his weapon aside to avoid attracting the attention of the baterra.

He turned to Ghaile to give his report after a thorough inspection, slapping his old friend on the chest. "He'll survive. That's the second time he's taken a hit like that... and least this time his armor absorbed the worst of it." He shook his head slightly and stood beside the unconscious head of security. The baterra, had, of course already disappeared back into the folds of the forest by now, and Ghaile could not afford to take any chances.

"Right! Everyone disarm themselves! Remove the cell from your EMSAs - we know the baterra only attack armed people. And someone carry Ronin back to base."

It took three people to carry the head of security. It seemed he was even heftier when he was unconscious.

"Now, how many of you are elementals?"

A show of five hands went up.

"Hrr, that should do. The rest of you, bar Zaariah, return to the base."

Ghaile turned to the rest of the (smaller) team.

"Our primary aim is to clear a path from the camp to the Maze itself. Since we no longer have arms, we will have to fall back on a more falliable strategy."

At this, she held up a familiar spiky shape.

"This, as you know, it a thornax."

Some members of the audience ducked instinctively. When you'd seen what they could do to bare flesh...

"We will place these along a set path from the Maze to the base. Although, do be careful putting them into trees. It might be a baterra."

The skrall was satisfied to see her audience looking suitably worried.

"We'll then set them off at a distance using a sonic pulse. The explosions should be enough to clear the area. Clear?"

The faces around her said it was.

"Right then. Get to it!"

Kor needed a key that's all he knew HE didn't exactly know where the key was but he knew that the baterra had it. He wasn't sure If the order hated him so he didn't immediately run up an say hi. He hung back. Having no weapons and being a Great Being meant the ignored him. He followed the battera in their small packs as they moved through out the forest He tried to find where the greatest concentration of baterra gathered. With no luck he slunk back to where the order was staying to try and obtain assistance.

((I'm afraid I'm a little confused by your posts. Did Kor just create a transport ship for the Beings? Out of ICE? Plus... Kor is in the wrong time frame. If he arrived as the night ended... that would be twelve hour before the rest (mechs and all) of the Order arrived. But I suppose he can be sleeping or wuteva :/ Kor left the Beings at dawn, so that would have been about twelve hours before Ghaile and her team start to blow the forest up.

Anyway, please, try to keep Kor's creaty abilities toned down, or unreliable, at least. It will be very tiring if Kor simply "disassembles" everything that's thrown at him.

And, just to clarify: creaty powers would be severely restricted by Gladiators, with the exception of the upper echelons of their society. Gladiators tend to stick to elemental and kanoka/mask powers, as using Architect powers can be seen as offensive. While masks can - and do - have creaty powers, these are rare, and not as powerful.))

Ghaile was left not a little unsure as to the bhakarian's intentions had been, but did not dwell on it. The rest of his peers were getting on well with distributing the thornax.

It was at that moment Ghaile remembered the direction D'mrali had wandered off in was also near where she had placed the spare thornax.

Judging by the explosion thereafter, he'd obviously found them.

(Zaariah) the Vortixx took one of several Kanohi masks off his belt. It was a point of pride that Vortixx never used masks of power, but they were all perfectly capable of using them. He however decided the situation called for it and donned the mask of x-ray vision, and with it activated began scanning the area carefully as he set out the overripe thornax fruits with the others.

Once again, D'mrali had that fog-in-the-brain feeling. *Shell Shock, I'm sure.* He thought dimly. When his vision cleared, He saw a congregation of large, white automatons with flat, cylindrical heads. The Battera, obviously. This would certainly complicate things. The notorious machines simply stared at him, due to the fact that he was unarmed. He used his initiative to his advantage, and spent a good 12 minutes coming up with a plan. He was out of options. He had to rapidly assault the mech's.

((Hrr, this discussion has gone on long enough: D'mrali doesn't attack the baterra, and they don't think his hands are weapons as he would be dead if they were. Nuff sed.))

Ghaile span round at the sound of the explosion. She quickly nodded Zaar to take command and dashed off into the forest.

It was some time, quarter of an hour at least, until she managed to find the bhakari. He was lying on his back, looking dazedly at the frozen tableau of three baterra around him.

Ghaile slowed her pace down considerably at this. The baterra were a strange bunch. Any sharp noise or movement would bring them running, but if there was nothing armed there... they would just stand stock still, like they were sleeping.

She very carefully picked up a small stone and held it in front of her face, activating her mask power: repulsion.

There was a sharp *ping* in the forest behind the baterra, and they shifted slightly, as if waking from a deep sleep. Moments later they, quite literally, melded back into the forest, shape-shifting from view.

Ghaile stood very, very still for some time before breathing a sigh of relief.

(Zaariah) The bemused Vortixx shook his head at the explosion and nodded in acknowledgement to the general as she left, some of the others stopping to look in the direction as well "Come on people, we have Thornax to plant. Get to it."

The others left under his command snapped back to work, planting the thornax along the path with careful precision. He glanced back, using the telescoping lens in his mask to see the alien and the general were relatively alright. With no other use for it, he peeled the mask off and hooked it back to his belt, continuing his work as he hummed a cheerful tune.

((I was referring to that specific scene. D'mrali can attack/dissect a baterra, I just didn't want him to do it then, as the way the situation was being achieved didn't make much sense. He can dissect one NOW. In secret.))

((Anyway, let me just set it up for yar))

Five minutes, some careful thornax handling and one sullen D'mrali later, Ghaile's team reconvened at the top of small hillock that overlooked the base camp and the majority of the forest.

"Cover your ears, people. Otherwise you may not be able to hear for a few days. And wouldn't that be a pity."

Ghaile nodded to the power-scream rahkshi beside her before quickly covering her own ears.

The creature's jaw almost dislocated, opening to an unnatural, gruesome angle as a powerful scream emanated from it's mouth. It ripped down the hillside and powered into the forest, timbers splintering and boulders cracking.

Ghaile nearly forgot to do her bit.

"FOCUS!"

And with that, all pressure removed itself from her ears, and she uncovered them.

From her point of view, it seemed like an invisible army was swiftly and silently making it's way through the forest, cutting trees down and crumbling stone, leveling a path. This was, however, before the scream reached the thorna - BOOM!

Quickly multiple explosions enveloped the path, a wave of fire and force, directed by the scream, carving a solid path through the forest in a matter of seconds.

There was a short stunned silence before Ghaile kicked the team back into action, lynching them to get down there and make a quick check.

They found nothing, except for a few burnt splinters and rubble. The thornax-and-rahkshi strategy was a deadly one.

It was only the sharp, cybernetic eyes of one bhakari who spotted a slight irregularity in one of the trees - it appeared to be slightly metallic.((It's a baterra))

Intrigued, he went to investigate, telling no-one.

((He can do WHATEVER HE WANTS, just one small thing: in addition, let us say he finds out a horrible secret about the baterra which he decides to keep to himself. I will reveal this secret (about the baterra) when we is in da Maze...))

D'mrali was wandering about, speculating on what would occur if he had died. Surely, his assassination would ultimately lead to the defeat of the Bhakarai military. This was no arrogant assumption- D'mrali had an intellect the size of a supercomputer. This was a realistic calculation. He then noticed an unusual happening. On a tree, a few meters away from him, he noticed a rivet flicker in and out of sight. Such an anomaly would take more than just a trained eye to see. D'mrali meandered over to the tree. He deftly knocked on the tree, as hard as possible. It happened again. He grabbed a spigot and hammer from his backpack and hammered the syrup-gathering device into the tree. Then, it turned out not to be a tree.

Valmros was about, doing recon duties. He then heard an ear-blasting whirring-buzzing noise. He radioed Ghaile, "I strongly recommend coming here immediately!" Ghaile's reply,"You don't give me orders, reptile!" "But I've found something that requires your immediate attention!" A half-hour later, most of the party was assembled. After a few minutes of waiting, Another Battera Emerged, carrying D'mrali underneath it's left arm. This one, contrary to the others, was white and /green/.

A FEW MINUTES later, most of the party was assembled. After a few minutes of waiting, Another battera emerged, carrying D'mrali underneath it's left arm. This one, contrary to the others, was BLUE WITH SILVER BOHROK-LIKE ARMOUR, BUT WITH A DASH OF GREEN ON IT'S SHOULDER COVERS. ((Baterra are blue+silver; they are the basis from which the bohrok were designed. ))

"Hello, teammates."

Ghaile instantly recognised the baterra for what it was: a control baterra.

The first thing that came into her mind was: These things were rare. Really rare. What was it doing out here?

The second thing was: Get it out of here.

With a moment's pause to consider D'mrali's safety, Ghaile activated her mask power and repelled the duo away as hard as possible.

((Misquotation? You don' seem to understand that D'mrali is actually /inside/ the Battera, which changes colors as a result. I was hoping to stage a misunderstanding.))

The Battera cringed. It's first thought:*Oh, this can't be good.* The machine dropped D'mrali and rushed into the woods. D'mrali, apparently attached by a cord in the back of his neck, dragged behind him. The creature looked behind it.

[Cerebral Landscape within two Mechanical Entities]

D'mrali was immediately regretting his decision to attempt hacking the mammoth machine. This mech's mind was a simple room. He could not proceed due to the fact that the door was outfitted with a large lock. Not only that, the Battera's mental avatar(Very rare, a psychological component that allows user to navigate one's own mind) was shooting at his from above. If his mental avatar ceased to exist, he would die, and the Battera he was attacking would have free access to his own body. But then, something occurred that saved his life.An advertisement. It clouded the Battera's vision long enough so he could pick the lock and access the rest of the monster's psyche.

Briefly, he went back into his own body. He could see the beast tugging at the wire which was downloading him into the Battera's Systems. He pulled himself over and struck the creature. His target then delivered a propulsive blow to his face. He took this opportunity to reenter the creatures mind.

((Let's say the red colour on the shoulders is a COINCIDENCE, and Ghaile was too busy fighting them to know red shoulders mean a hacked baterra so if any of it's comrades find it they keel eet, ja?))

Ghaile watched as the baterra resisted her attack, dropping the bhakarian(who seemed in some kind of slumber)and moved away with an uncommon gait, like it was having difficulty moving.

She noticed there was a wire trailing from the baterra to D'mrali, dragging him along

She quickly snapped at J'krel, one of the three who had come with her to investigate.

"Is that bhakarian..."

Ghaile struggled to find the right bhakarian equivalent.

"...half-mechanical?"

"Well, actually, he's 94% mechanical." J'krel replied.

Na'vesh was a few feet behind them, eating. "Can't say I didn't warn you..." He muttered through his meal.

D'mrali had more than a bad reputation to worry about. The Battera had recovered from the sudden mis-hap. Clearly, there was more to this AI than he had initially thought. He rushed out of the initial chamber and ran from the Mental Avatar. He rushed through linear halls illuminated by green lines running along the walls, floor and ceiling. Various drops and ascents were scattered throughout the area, but to D'mrali it seemed like old cartoons, the ones where the protagonist runs past the same lamp and table over and over. From what he could tell, he was getting closer to the center, because the Green lines were becoming brighter and more saturated.

Kor was having difficulties finding two things now. He was still no closer to finding that blasted Key, and now The Order team with all the lizards. Kor sat moping atop a tree wondering how he was going to fix this all when suddenly one of capracies' memories triggered. He shot up hovering in the air. "I didn't know I could do that.." he muttered.

He glided across the jungle until he found an isolated Battera He snatched it up into the air and his eyes startedto glow. Before the machine could protest it was nothing but pieces of scrap falling out of the air and a glowing blue cylinder resting In The great beings hand. "It sure was nice of them, or us to install these black boxes. Now let's see what you knew 4 seconds ago." He said.

Accessing the Baterra's memory yielded answers to both of the problems he was encountering. The machine like all Battera knew exactly where the Key was. This was in fact buried in the foundry where all the baterra were made. The other piece of information he got was an image of The Alien that had threatened him and the location and time it was from. "Excellent." He said as he blinked away.

(A'zaiah) shook his head and clapped his had over his eyes, finding it all very amusing that D'mrali was as downright foolish as he was, and at the same time as concerned for what the future of their people might have been if they were all like the cyborg. "For someone so intelligent, he can be disconcertingly idiotic"
(Zaariah) looked on in confusion of it all, somewhat shocked by the acts of the alien Bhakari and turned away, throwing his hands in the air in mock exaggeration "If we had about twenty more like him, we probably wouldn't have needed the Thornax explosion to clear a path. Just send these guys ahead to run into things and blow stuff up. The battera would be so busy investigating them, they wouldn't notice us!" He said jokingly.

((Aha! The baterra foundry is inside the fortress complex, as the Maze was built, by the baterra themselves, after the internal complex. There is also some bad news for Kor... the Maze and fortress complex are teleportation- and creation-power-proof.

I mean it makes sense. One would not built a fortress that enemies could merely teleport (or otherwise) into.

This means Kor will have to find another way in if he wants to get this key. Unfortunately, the only people who can help him are the Order, as they have Capries' map-disc. Kor, however, does not know this...))

Ghaile hook her head at the situation they were in. D'mrali and the baterra had stopped grappling by now, and the cable between them had a slightly glow about it((fibre optics)).

The only thing do, it seemed, was to wait.

---

While Ghaile had been busy clearing the forest path, Enias had been busy using it, intent on testing a theory.

When the reformation had happened - a good hundred years ago - the Maze had undergone some curious changes in it's nature: it had developed lightning guns. And other things.

The forest became no less thicker as he neared the forest, and the path began to wane, before ceasing altogether. Ghaile's team had cleared no further, for fear of the defenses. Enias was able to see the squat pyramidal shape of the fortress in the distance, a number of spires rising from it's peak.

The Fortress - as was more popularly called - backed onto a steep mountain cliff and was partly surrounded, on one side, by forest, and the mountain cliff side by sharp, black rocks. It was that area Enias was headed.

It took a relatively short amount of time to get there; speed combined with robotic endurance. When he reached the first of these huge rocky monoliths, he stopped dead.

The ground was a fine, sandy mess; a contrast to the sturdy forest floor. A combination of vacuum and gravity powers raised - with painstaking slowness - lifted part of this into the air.

It took about a minute for Enias to float the earth to eye level, at which point it was compressed by his gravity powers. Enias adjusted his aim, and with all his might, launched it at the tallest of the black stalagmites.

A thin cyan ray shot out of what could have been a turret on the outer Fortress wall facing him. The beam easily caught up with the flying mass of earth, vapourising it.

The next thing it hit was the largest black spike.

The resulting explosion was really quite impressive; shards of rock scattered in all directions, and with a groaning noise, it began to topple over.

A number of blue beams shot out again from the fortress wall in response to this new threat. These had little effect; the column of obsidian carried on, plowing through the turrets and all.

Enias had stayed stock still this whole time, and so made a fatal mistake.

He shifted his weight from one leg to another, breaking the crust below his foot, attracting the attention of one last barely functional turret.

Before he knew it, the ground was exploding beneath his feet.

Winding, glowing corridors were even more illuminated, as his footprints were illuminated by an unknown source of light. He made a left turn, a couple right turns, an ascent, a left turn again, and he immediately found what he was looking for: a knife. He now had the means to successfully hack into the Battera. He rapidly evaded the Avatar that pursued him, making his way to the center, where the lines on the walls were blindingly bright and saturated, to the point where D'mrali could hardly see. He could make out a large, spherical object. He leaped at it, and plunged his weapon into its core.

D'mrali felt dizzy. He, after a short cluster of mundane thoughts, opened his eyes. He was in the physical world once more. "Is the Battera Alive?" He thought. His vision blurred, swirled, and then turned off entirely. A pair of seconds later, he was looking at the same scene from a different angle. He turned to his left. What he saw was so amazing, so mind-boggling, so absolutely insane, he, for a moment, he thought he had died and was in the afterlife. What he saw.....

Before he knew it, the ground was exploding beneath his feet.

[Zaariah] shifted his weight from one foot to the other and tilted his head to one side as he listened closely to the distant explosion and slowly turned in what he thought was the general direction of it's origin.

He once again placed the mask of X-ray vision over his face to scan through the area ahead of them, zooming in until he saw the crater near the perimeter of the maze where Enias had been standing. He blinked and continued scanning the area until he located the Makuta, who had been blown clear of the turret's range. He kept his focus on the Makuta as he waved the General over.

[Ghaile]

Ghaile was too busy watching the now-active baterra. She had a hunch that all was not as it seemed, given that the head of her trusted vortixx captain((?)) had not exploded in a a mist of blood and baterra blades.

She quickly signalled to the two bhakari ((WHOSE CREATORS HAVE BEEN INACTIVE)) to keep an eye on the baterra, which was shifting unsteadily and staring at the unconscious body of D'mrali like it was a pink tree.

She then turned to Zaariah, who was staring suspiciously at the robot in question and probably considering his own mortality.

((Well, the reason I've been inactive is because there really hasn't been much happening, at least that really concerns my characters.))

[Na'vesh]

Na'vesh's ears had (metaphorically) pricked up when he heard that native Zaariah tell Ghaile that Enias was in trouble. He was deathly bored, and his only source of diversion had been watching D'mrali struggle with the Baterra. And even that seemed to have devolved into a staring contest.

So, with a short grunt, he slowly got up from where he had been sitting and walked over to D'mrali and the Baterra. The baterra was still just standing there, staring at D'mrali like it was dazed. So, Na'vesh did something that horrified everybody present. He brought his fist back and hit the Baterra full in the face. The clang echoed through the entire clearing, and everyone present glared daggers of hatred at him.

"D'mrali, you've taken enough time for fooling around in that thing's head.", Na'vesh rasped. "Snap out of it. We have other things to do."

Turning, he addressed the bystanders in heavily accented Matoran.

"Don't worry, D'mrali's done this plenty of times before. He's a universe class hacker, and we SHOULD be safe."

Then, he shifted his attention to Ghaile.

"Now, ma'am, I'm going to see what that Enias is up to. To be honest, I'm getting incredibly bored here, and it seems that you don't have much need of me. I'd much rather put my skills to work. So if you'd excuse me..."

And without waiting for a response, he collected a small burst of telekinetic energy and shot through the air like a stone from a catapult, flying over the tops of the trees and leaving a furious Ghaile and J'krel behind him. Soon, all that could be seen of him were the occasional rustle of a treetop as he leapt from tree to tree, moving rapidly toward the pyramidal shape in the distance.

D'mrali began to think. "What if I could steer both of my bod's at the same time?". Sure enough, the same thing happened again. This time, the Battera's view was at the bottom, while his own was up top. "What was that for, Na'vesh?" Said D'mrali. Na'vesh turned around. He thought he had heard two voices say the same thing in unison. "Well?" Asked the two.

[Zaariah] The Vortixx Lieutenant felt no concern for his safety, wary as he was of the shape shifting machine, as he had no obvious or noticeable means of attack, and thus couldn't be judged as a threat by the machines. He took a moment to examine the ARC projector built into his forearm plate of his left arm, checking the light indicating it's charge with a slight de-focus.

He looked up after a long moment, eyes focusing on the General again as he pushed stray thoughts of home off his mind. He grinned and stifled a laugh when he saw Na'vesh deck the Battera, a small, deep laugh that didn't fit with his voice emanating from him even so as the Bhakarian leapt off "Aaah, I like these aliens. As Na'vesh leapt from tree to tree, he responded to D'mrali through the hive-mind.

"Sorry for not answering you back there, but I just wanted to get OUT. To much sitting around, you know? Couldn't stand it anymore."

"Anyways, that's a nice trick you got there, D'mrali. Goodness knows it'll be useful. But you were taking way too long. Getting all the natives uneasy. I figured you were already done, and were just doing all your extra technical things and stuff."

Na'vesh was making a good pace. He was much closer to the pyramid than before, and it would only be a few more minutes of telekinetically enhanced hopping before he reached Enias and his accident.

"Tell Ghaile and J'krel that I'm sorry for leaving on such short notice. It was quite rude of me."

((Also, is anything going on with the GBs still at the crash site?))

Ghaile whirled round, smiling nastily, her back facing the fortress. Everyone took a step back.

Which was exactly what she wanted them to do.

The earth beneath her feet buckled as she activated her mask power, repelling herself away from the ground and into the sky.

[Enias]

The makuta painstakingly picked himself up from the charred earth. A metre-by-metre blackened crater had been carved into the earth, and his feet were pretty battered.

The blast had thrown him out of the motion-detection range of the turret, although he could not be so foolish so as to assume it had disengaged along with all the others. He could, however, afford to assume that it's armour was breached.

He was about to fire a concentrated flare of plasma at the turret when there was a burst of movement in the corner of his eye. A few seconds later, Ghaile dropped out of the sky into a crouch, before straightening and dusting herself off.((Her mask is pretty powerful like that - more focused on repulsion than Na'vesh's powa))

"Quickly, Na'vesh is on his way. He doesn't know-"

It was at that moment the bhakarian in question appeared, who was, it seemed, attempting to fly by concentrating his telekinetic powers on the ground beneath him.

There was no time to talk; it was a matter of seconds before Na'vesh was in the fortress's destructive range. Makuta and skrall nodded at each other; Ghaile leaped back, triggering her mask power, sending him flying back.

As Enias hurtled forward and upwards to Na'vesh's trajectory (for it was him, not Na'vesh Ghaile had repulsed), he contemplated the wisdom of this strategy.

It's a little late for doubts, he thought as he neared the bhakarian, and activated this shadow hand teleport, a maelstrom of shadow and mist enveloping the two colliding figures.

[Zaariah] the Vortixx let out an explosive sigh and an animal growl as he took a seat on one of the felled trees, exasperated by the seemingly constant comings and going of his CO and the aliens, honestly feeling like shooting either or. Or both. He couldn't really care right now. He leaned forward slightly, placing his hands on his knee as he stared at the ground for a long minute before looking to the two remaining Bhakarians

"Is it like this where you two come from too? Cause this is feeling rather repetitive and annoying." he finished, shifting his elbows to his knees, palms up in a shrug before he scratched the top his smooth head lightly. He rested his hand on his face "I mean, can't we at least act organized for more than ten or twenty minutes at a time, without someone running off or being blown up?"

The Bhakari A'zaiah simply shrugged and leaned against a tree with a shake of his head, not voicing his own opinion in ear shot of his own commander.

The Vortixx frowned slightly after gathering his wits again for another minute or so and stood up from the splintered and broken tree, motioning for the rest of the team to follow him "Well, let's move out. The general wanted us to get to Enias, after all." He started in the direction he had seen the Makuta, following after the General and the Bhakari.

((Sos about this Quads - Hank's posted fuddled the continuity up slightly. This should make more sense.))

Twenty metres down, in the forest below, a whirling cloud of shadow manifested itself, and two figures - Enias and Na'vesh - shot out of either side of it, both facing the way they were flying.

Na'vesh had the good fortunate to slam into a tree. Enias, however, was not so lucky as to have mere plant life to deal with. He was propelled forth towards where Kor and D'mrali had paused a few seconds before.

Enias could imagine what the situation would look like; he had no desire to make more enemies. He mentally flicked through his forty-two abilities, selecting the most suitable one: density control.

This entire mental process took little under a second, which left just enough time to phase into intangibility and fly through Kor and D'mrali.

((Enias isn't armed (makuta are arrogant like that). However, he does have four antigrav cubes suspended in antdermis if that helps.))

((Hank, I know Kor is quite powerful, but if he attacks/does something to Enias it is up to me as regards how the action turns out. Sez so in de rules))

((No matter how desperately I try to keep up with the story something or another is always happening I miss. and for a heads up Kor doesn't plan on attacking anyone.))

Enias quickly turned the density control off, span himself one hundred and eighty degrees and dropped out of his trajectory onto the ground by a quickly manipulation of the local gravity.

"Well," he said, as the dust began to settle, nodding at Kor. "I presume you're trying to get into the Fortress?"

D'mrali had a puzzled expression on his face. "Stay right there, monster!" He bellowed. The Battera walked over to Kor and sucker-punched him in the stomach. Kor staggered a bit, but was seemingly unscathed. "I-I helped kill you!" D'mrali said, worried. "B-Back off, fiend!" He stuttered. "2-on-one never works!"

((...As you can tell, D'mrali is still convinced that he's talking to Capries. Also, Hank, if your "plan" entails ripping the Battera from my grasp, I'll have to ask you not to.))

Kor was so shocked as to what had just happened that the blow only helped his back peddling. "Gentlemen," Kor said trying to fight off the series of strikes coming from d'rmali, "I think we can come to a logical agreement on this." putting some force into his words The Battera that was linked to d'rmali grabbed him from behind.

((please don't hate me I don't want to fight and I needed something that will stop you from trying to kill me. I'm not keeping it.))

"Thank you. I think your mistaking me for the late Capracies who's form I am trapped in. You killed him. Don't worry I don't bear a grudge, it needed to happen actually." After saying this he had the robot release the alien and he released the robot from his control.

"As for your question makuta, it's not getting in that's the problem. I can do that. It's getting what I need in the fortress. which I'm sure your friend here can help with."

[Na'vesh]

*Well*, Na'vesh thought. *That escalated quickly.*

He had been simply minding his own business, jumping from tree to tree. He could have even sworn that he could see Enias with who he thought was Ghaile in the distance. But that had changed when he was teleported out of nowhere and slammed into a massive tree. He had been lucky in that the tree hadn't been smashed, but he now found himself strangely embedded in the trunk.

He rested for a few moments as he got a view of his surroundings. But as he tried to free himself from the tree, he found something very odd: he was stuck even tighter than he was before. It was then that it dawned on him: the tree was drawing him in!

With a cry of fear and a burst of strength, Na'vesh ripped his arm away from the tree. Then, panicking, he blasted himself from the tree with a telekinetic push.

Unfortunately, this brief flight sent him straight into the quartet of D'mrali, Enias, a Baterra, and Kor. It was Kor who bore the brunt of the blow, but Na'vesh's flailing limbs somehow managed to hit everyone at once.

It was Na'vesh who recovered first, bouncing to his feet.

"As for your question makuta, it's not getting in that's the problem. I can do that. It's getting what I need in the fortress. which I'm sure your friend here can help with."

Enias raised an eyeridge, and had it hit by a flailing Na'vesh, catching him off balance.

Quoting Clumsy Na'vesh :----:

"What did I miss?"

The makuta rolled his eyes at the bhakarian.

"Question is, what didn't you miss? The entire forest perhaps? The sky?"

He shook his head, and proceeded to help everyone else up, talking to Kor at the same time.

"A good few decades ago, we had a great being, not unlike you. Velika. He was powerful, arrogant. And foolish. More so than you.

"He, like you, thought he could get into the Fortress. When he tried to teleport, he reappeared with the left half of his body stuck in the mountainside opposite the Fortress. It took us fifteen months to find him.

"After that, we did a couple of experiments. We gave a couple of teleport rahkshi the co-ordinates. It was five years until we finally realised that they had somehow fused with some of the trees."

They all turned to stare at the tree Na'vesh had hit. It rustled ominously.

"Then we tried a couple of other techniques. The Spear of Fusion. The Olmak. The Vahi. None of them worked, and even when we broke a couple of the turrets, when we could get right up to the Fortress wall, there was nothing we could do. It has an absolute resistance to every kind of element and power, and if there exists a weapon powerful enough, we certainly do not have one."

Enias turned to look the hybrid in the eye.

"I can assure you now: you are no Great Being. The Architects themselves created the very mechanism that gives you your power; Velika was the last of them. If he could not get in, then you will definitely not."

The makuta turned to look at the Fortress, part of it now buried by black rubble.

"I have succeeded in burying part of the Fortress defenses in several tonnes of rock. We will now be able to access one of the five walls, for the time being, at least."

He then proceeded to produce the mapdisc, and showed it to Kor, who by now had successfully stood up.

"This was, I believe, originally Capries's. I suspect it holds the key to getting into the Fortress."

((Phew! Talk about text walls.

Anyway: the basic gist is that...

Quoting mehself Aha!

That's why I need your friend over there with the robot double to get it for me. I can't remove it. I need the key to get further in to the fortress and collect some of the architects artifacts."

He pointed to the mapdisc. "you're correct in you assumption about that. However I advise you to find a way to read that because it contains much more than just that."

((Hank, you're missing the point slightly: the turrets are motion sensitive, like every other kind of decent defensive technology. The turrets - and, for that matter, all the other traps - don't give a dXmn as to whether he's "supposed" to exist - he exists, and that would be excuse enough to activate. It isn't a case of "I disagree with you"; more of a "It really makes no sense".

The essential point is that Kor, like everyone else, cannot gain access to any part of the Fortress by any means. I dislike "special case" characters; they somehow can do things no-one else can and make it really very annoying for us mere mortals.

On a further point: a post-hybridisation character summary of Kor was never posted on the Ch. thread. I suspect that since you did not do this before the story began, it allowed you the liberty of creating powers in-story. THE POWER OF LIMITED NON-ORGANIC CREATIVE MANIPULATION IS THE ONLY ONE KOR CAN USE FROM NOW ON. New/other powers and attributes (e.g. Architect weaponry ignoring him) will NOT be allowed.))

---

It was some time later, and a party of ten had formed near where Enias had crushed a number of the turrets with rubble. Everyone was a little jumpy; there was at least one active turret left, and no-one wanted to find out where it was.

Enias quickly stepped forward, fiddling frantically with the mapdisc's core mechanism, the only part of it he had managed to save.

A check of the instructions involved the makuta projecting the memory of the casing as an illusion. By and large, the process took quarter of an hour, which meant that what happened next was a fair bit surprising.

The mapdisc core jumped, literally, out of Enias's hand and attached itself to the Fortress wall. There was the shriek of internal mechanisms, and a small crack began to open in the Fortress.

There was nothing but darkness beyond.

Ghaile stepped forward, quick to organise everyone.

"Right. Request for those going into the Maze!"

[Zaariah] The vortixx was worried about the turret, like everyone else though wouldn't let that stop him. He stepped forward, replacing the power core of his EMSA and DEW shotgun, though he kept the latter secured to his hip rather than in his hands. *I want an exo-toa when this is over* He thought to himself and made an annoyed click sound "I'll go in."

J'krel was unhappy to see a Great Being at the best of times. Seeing one arriving with two trusted allies, a battera and one of the natives she trusted, infuriated her. She kept her calm and waited until one of the group was out of the Beings earshot to ask just what in the Hadus(Bhakarian version of the underworld) was going on. Unfortunately for him, it was Na'vesh. "What is that doing here" she said gesturing towards Kor with eyes furious enough to send some running.

Enias nodded, and stepped forward, turning to Ghaile.

"It may be better for me to lead the team into the Maze, if you don't mind."

The skrall rolled her eyes; although internally she was relieved; she had no desire to enter her race's metaphorical equivalent of Hades.

"Do try not to blow anything up, will you?"

[Na'vesh]

The ferocity of J'krel's gaze was enough to make Na'vesh to take an unconscious step back.

"Don't ask me, I just got here."

He could tell that J'krel was not amused, so he hurried to supply more information.

"Apparently his name is Kor. He's that agori who got fused with Capries, the captain of the ship that shot us down. Nobody knows what his intentions are, though."

J'krel still looked angry, so Na'vesh knew that he had to tread lightly. She probably was still ticked off from his running off to find Enias. So very tentatively, he asked,

"So, can I come with on this expedition? I'm sure the three of us can take that monstrosity."

Enias tentatively neared the small opening, and stuck his head into it, looking around.

It was dark, cramped, vertical shaft that extended down below the rest of the fortress, a series of ancient mental rungs sticking out of one wall forming a ladder. There was a small lip of about two metres before it.

He grabbed a lightstone from the nearest matoran and casually dropped it down said shaft. He watched as the stone, still emanating light, lit up the sides as it fell until it was no longer visible.

Four seconds later, there was a barely perceptible shatter as the stone presumably hit the bottom and broke.

Enias shrugged, unconcerned, and gestured for the line-up of the five ((peeps)) to enter the shaft, with himself guarding the tail end of it. He nodded at Ghaile, and thumped the centre of the mapdisc's mechanism that had spent it's time limpeted to the wall.

There was a tremendous screech, and the Fortress wall began to seal and warp, giving Enias only just enough time to grab the mapdisc and launch himself through the ever-shrinking entrance before it slammed shut.

The silence thereafter was absolute, and the rest of her party was uncomfortable, Ghaile could easily tell.

She broke the silence with a command.

"Back to base. We'll hear from them again when we hear from them."

Once inside, D'mrali ((Both of him)) looked about. He shuddered. The place exuded a milieu of decay and age, and, while still definitely constructed of metal, much of the place was covered in a mysterious fungi, which wielded no results in D'mrali's Flora/Fauna databanks. The corridors had a few glass panels, and when he looked out of the shattered ones, he saw a sort of garden, which has since been overtaken by numerous types of mushroom. *This place is utterly harrowing...* D'mrali concluded.

They climbed for several minutes, guided only by the dim glow of the light stones. Enias brought up the rear, carefully examining all sides.

The rest of the party heard a 'That's funny...'
They looked up to see the makuta in question fiddling with a panel inset into the wall. Inside it there was a cylinder-like switch with a vertical bar running the diameter. Enias pulled it out a far as it would extend, experimenting, and turned it to a right angle

The entire shaft seemed to shudder

From their perspective, the room began to rotate. The metal rungs were now above them, like a ceiling.

'Well,' breathed Enias. 'They must have left the gravity switched off.'

The shaft now looked an awful lot more like a corridor

((Not yet))

The party of six continued to walked for another ten minutes. The shaft seemed to become cleaner as they went deeper, pointed arrows printed into the brass walls giving some little hope to them. Every ten metres of so, Enias would pause to attach an Order-issue beacon. They might be useful later.

Eventually they came to what seemed a dead end. Enias suspected it was anything but. A small circular indent sat at the centre of the brass wall, inviting Enias to place the mapdisc in it. He did so, without much ado.

There was a mechanical hiss of unseen equipment, and the mapdisc dropped out of the indent to the floor, preceding the wall sinking down into the floor, allowing them to pass, before quickly closing again.

This section of the shaft was slightly different. In addition to the metal rungs, there was sparse strip-lighting and a number of schematics outlined in green, before ending with a door similar to the one they'd used.

Enias studied the schematics intently, as did the others. Some were immediately obvious: an outside plan for the Maze; diagrams for various giant robots. One diagram in particular drew Enias's attention.

It showed what was obviously a small cross section of the Maze and fortress complex. However, there was a rather puzzling jagged cone-like shape extending down far beneath the cross-section. Various sections were labelled in careless matoran runes. Enias could just about make out the word "engine".

He whirled round.

"Uh, people. I don't think the Maze is just a fortress; I suspect it may be a ship as well..."

((WEEEEEll

It had to end sometime.

Anyhowitzer. Another summation:

1] The Order fire a number of exo-toa units at the Beings in order to gather information, which they deal with accordingly and learn a little about their enemy.

2] We see the Order RC make it to the Maze, and their antics in the surrounding forest which include a hacked baterra and a hybrid.

3] And the chapter ends with the team of six entering the Fortress, and learning a little more concerning it's true nature.

I'll make ze Chapter six, which will see

The Beings' arrival

The team of six travel further into the Fortress

And the responses of both the Order and the Fortress to the Beings!
