As it said, it's a game.
Here's my backstory:

The Battle For Clonetard City

Long, long ago, a colony ship departed from Earth laden with undesirables; criminals, murderers, Peaches. But most predominant among the passengers were the Klonei, a hated sect of Teyfowls with an un-natural obsession with a long-dead entertainment show. The ship mis-jumped, and everyone assumed the passengers' atoms had been scattered across interstellar space somewhere.

Until now.

In late 2576, they managed to get the vessel's interstellar communicator online after half a millennia of blissful silence. They immediately began to flood the interstellar com-net with requests to anyone who'd listen to "com chek their awsum stuff", presumably meaning their self-built infrastructure. This continued for three years, until in March of 2579, Emperor John XXIV of House Hood decided he'd had enough of these nonaligned frakkers spamming up the com-net, and despatched what few forces he could afford to remove from the border war with House Marks to go and take the Klonei's new toy away from them.

The Klonei, well aware of the hacking prowess of House Hood's intelligence agency, the P.H.A.Z.E., had previously hired some "Security Consultants" to protect them from covert incursions: Moffat's Marauders, a well known merc unit with a reputation for reliability. The reason for this was a simple one; Klonei live their entire lives from birth to death linked to a planetary com-net, which holds everything they've ever accomplished. The possible threat of a hacking attack to delete information from this net was sufficient to cause the Klonei leader to take drastic measures.

A dropship carrying three or four mecha is a sufficient force to conquer your average star system. (Famous Clonie Name) is not defended well enough to qualify as even "sub par". The destroyer CPS "Harbinger" jumped in at the L4 point in May, and despatched a light transport dropship carrying the newly formed 217th Varion Invaders.
The ship landed in the northern continent of Kloneiland unopposed, as Moffat's Marauders has no integral aerospace capability.

The Varion Invaders began a march on Clonetard City, the capital of Kloneiland, crushing all before them. The pathetic six-legged mecha deployed by the planetary army were brushed aside from well outside their effective range, their tri-colour red-yellow-blue splinter camouflage serving to highlight them in all but the worst visibility. Now, 250 kilometres from Clonetard City, in the shadow of Mount Fed, Moffat's Marauders have made contact with the 217th. The winner of the impending battle will decide the fate of the Klonei. The declared goal of the 217th: to burn the city to the ground.

Is it acceptable to you?

John Hood ain't too secret. He's the founder of the PCU and in the COP. As for influential clonie... How about Blaze? Was it Blaze? I can't recall who was the 3rd AOT founder...

Well, there's a Kommandr Focks in charge of the communication array.

Eh, I'll just call the system "Vult". Everyone's probably seen that clonie group on the homepage once or twice.

By the way, it's going to be a mecha battle, based on the Battletech rules, with each player controlling a single mecha.

There's only room for 10 players, I'm afraid. Four mecha and an infantry platoon per side.

The two smaller mechae in this picture aren't visible, I'm afraid.

Giant stompy fighting robots. A more accurate term would be "mech" because they're western style and the whole thing's pretty much Battletech with new serial numbers. And clonies.

A game I'm planning, wherein two sides armed with giant walking tanks kill each other over a town called Clonet@rd City.

There's two sides involved: the 217th Varion Invaders, serving House Hood and planning to burn the city to the ground because they spammed the future version of the internet, and Moffat's Marauders, a merc unit hired to defend the Klonei.

I'm just making sure you don't mind having a merc unit named after you.

Okay, we've finally got group logos up.
Opinions?

There's also a less clunky system of links for going from one group to another, which should speed things up. If I'm gonna have a trifecta of groups, I should at least make them easy to navigate.

Well, it's not a *building* theme as much as a "shoddily thrown-together excuse for giant robots to kill each other", but if you want to build things for it, you're quite welcome.

Um, I should probably clarify a bit.

You know those comic sign-up things, where people pick body parts for a character, and then nothing ever happens because the guy running it doesn't have the commitment to follow through?

Well, it's a little like that, but instead of body parts, people pick mecha. And possibly tanks, depending on how many of them I can get finished before go-time. And instead of just having a character named after them, people control a pilot (who presumably looks just like them, he's only three studs high so it's hard to tell) who in turn controls a giant stompy war machine (or a tank). I'm still working on the "how", but it'll definitely involve forms; one to tell people how much armour they have left, what weapons they have, how far they can move, etc. etc., and one to get bandied back and forth which they use to tell me what their guy is going to do.

It'll probably work something like this: the game starts, and every mecha/tank on the field has a player controlling it. I then email each player a sheet showing the stats of their chosen ride, its capabilities, etc., an order form for them to fill out, and invite them to either the Moffat's Marauders group or the 217th Varion group, depending on which side they picked.

Presumably a bit of back-and-forth then goes on, while the players in each group work out what they're going to do. Then they all post their order forms, I go over them, take photos of the board, post the current round, someone complains because a lucky hit blew off a limb/everybody's shooting at him, send out updated record sheets, wash, rinse, repeat.

I'll probably end up updating it every three days or so.

Because the map's too small for it. I had to reduce all the Battletech ranges and speeds by half so they'd fit. 4x4 stud squares, you see. The map's a really big grey baseplate, but if it were any larger it'd be impossible to effectively photograph. Barely fits in my makeshift lightbox as is.

As for sniper rifles, the Caracals and Banshees have pretty good range. 36 studs at maximum.

A couple things;
1: it'd be helpful if you'd not quote that particular post. It takes up a huge amount of space, and automatically sends any quoting comments to the "this may be rude" bucket for moderation.
2: at the current point in time, I don't believe there's any empty slots. I think Spaz nabbed the empty T5, although at this time of night my memory starts to go funny so I could be wrong. I'll have a look in the morning.
