You obviously didn't pay any attention to Diplomats and Legions. What I got up to in that group would get me the Nobel Prizes for Creative Treachery, Incompetent Espionage, Arson & Terrorism AND Making Pointless Threats For Fun And Profit.

I like to think my having the Aswan Low Dam rigged to explode violently for half the lifespan of the group was one of the high points of the game. Just goes to show how great Cliffe was at counterespionage, but eh.

In other news I had to write a play for school, and I set it in 23rd century. The two people who I read it to congratulated me on making one of the most unique universes they'd ever encountered. I told them it wasn't me alone, but that's not what I'm getting at.

We're doing good work here, folk, keep it up. We can blow Halo, Mass Effect, and Star Trek out of the water if we wanted to. And I think we can.

It's not actually in the 23rd century, it's more towards Earth's eventual defeat. But it's basically a rogue UNE frigate off exploring in the Coalition, until the Baron of Hethorion figures out their game and grounds their ship when they stop by.

Most of the Coalition doesn't even know there's a war against Earth, let alone know about Earth at all.

But anyway, i agree with awe. This is actually one of the best sci fi themes i've ever encountered, and there should be official products (books, movies, vid games, LEGO sets, etc) on it. It goes way up there with Ender's Game/Shadow series and Ian Douglas's Heritage/Legacy/Inheritence triple series.

Speaking of which, has anyone here read any of the aforementioned series. I doubt anyone's heard of the later, but that one's my all time favorite.

And I do agree with Boris, Star Wars sucks once you actually start looking at other sci fis, I guess its just that readers connect better with plots set in a future Earth, in locations that actually exist, and without corny technologies that somehow work on magic without any underlying physics explained.

I took two years of Latin in high school, and come college, I plan to start up on it again.

Tarsin has absolutely no roots from Earth languages. However, because all my life I have been involved in Indo-European language, Tarsin has a similar structure to that. I can't fathom anything different yet.

It is, in some areas it excels. It's still a good sci-fi, but in a few areas, the plot aint too good.

Pointing out that Starwars is unrealistic is one thing, but saying it outright "s-cks" is very disrespectful to the people who put so much of their time and energy into the theme. It's a sign of great immaturity to put down another theme like that, I must say. And no, I'm not a Starwars fan, but still I respect it even if only in acknowledgement for the input the creators fed into the theme.

We can boast about how much better our theme is compared to Starwars and other themes, but in the end hundreds of millions, maybe billions of people know of or about Starwars, and probably no more than 800 people know about the 23CU.

All I'm recommending is we cut down on the "we are the best, all else is [cupcake]" mentality. That attitude won't get us far, and makes us look like a bunch of utter [cupcake]bags.

The UNE is fighting not to be taken over by the Coalition; valiant, but futile. The Coalition cannot be overstretched by definition of what the Coalition is. Each region, though ruled by Tarsis, can function independently for an indefinite amount of time. There's just a lot of blank space within it, because inhabitable planets aren't exactly what you call common.

I'm not sure where you get this unpopular notion... I've never said anything of the sorts.

And that definition is a feudal nation were if you want to leave, the Coalition declares war you, putting you between a rock and a hard place. :D UNE was this way, until the with the COP. You can't really exist on a regional level when you've got the only other galactic power you know of fighting you. So, the Coalition indirectly made the UNE more nationalistic. I'm not sure were you get this crony capitalistic notion… I've never said anything of the sort. ;)

Well, you could make a Coalition or Earth helmet, for marines.
Then you could always make a glass mask for the Zyyan, or a bug mask for the Neruk. (But if you can manage to get the Neruk right, you're some kind of a mind reader. Still need to write on them.)
You've got he Coalition Council thingy. I'm sure the Machines of Old would give you options.

Zyyan don't exactly have faces to hide, at least not the elders who have attained their more crystalline form. However, I've always liked masks...

Verily. You could make some kind of mask to wear in battle, ceremonial or legit... There are some Tarsin cultures that survived the general globalized assimilation that took place many thousands of years ago.

Well, is there anything other than the Alcondin Empire out there for the UNE? Otherwise, I'm going to knock out the Zyyan, Thyrendi, and Kisterik equivalents for the UNE all in one and send it for approval.

Also, is it really canon that the Coalition attack Sirius and Eridani? They're both in Sector 2, that's past Earth. I was kinda wanting Epsilon Eridani to be in 9, or 5.

Yeah, early in the 24th century (2309, or 2311, I can't remember what Moffatt and I decided on) Earth gets surrounded and pretty much swamped by Coalition ships. As far as I know, the Coalition took a heII of a beating in their final push, but succeeded in destroying the lunar defenses, and of course the iconic Planetary Defense Ring, leaving the Coalition free to amass transport ships around Earth without getting cut to ribbons by UNE space defenses.

And besides, I think it would be going against the very name of the theme if the war were to continue long after the actual 23rd Century.

Then in the 29th Century, everything fell apart and the Coalition was no longer a Coalition, and the Earthmen rebelled and regained their oh so highly prized independence. Only the very city of Tarsis itself remained untouched, their mighty spires never fell, and the city endured as a safe haven from the chaos of the galaxy.

Also, I don't know what happened to the Coalition's navy through all this, but I'd like to imagine that the Fortress of Silence was overrun, either by plague or barbarians, and became a ghost ship, drifting. The Legend of Aor was decommissioned shortly the end of the battle for Earth (having sustained extremely costly damage, that no one really wanted to pay for to fix). And as for the Hammer of Thyr, it disappeared with the Coalition, simply vanishing from known existence. Again, this is not official, but that's what I think should happen. This last paragraph needs to be approved by Awe if it is to be official.

So what do you think of my proposition, to eliminate treaded battle-tanks entirely in favor of realistic hover tanks (with the possibility of these tanks even replacing Close Air Support)? Or maybe not eliminate conventional tanks entirely, but at least start a trend in favor of hover tanks. I honestly can't picture M1A1 Abrahms style tanks some 270 years in the future...

In terms of speed over flat ground and - water, I guess (that'd be handy) - I reallydo like hover tanks. Generally I build something with treads because I cant think of a good hover design. I think the catamaran design looks nice, so long as you throw in sloped armor.
I still like my rotorcraft for close air support >.>

Hey John, I was playing Halo:Reach the other day and a idea struck me so hard I fell of my couch. So I was thinking we could start a contest where we build a TLC type battle back to show off our UNE or COP(cakes) soldiers so new group members can go to see waht teh UNE or The COP troopes look like? (PS sorry I haven't been active latly I have been working on a book about the Une and the defeat of the NEOS).
