Okay, I am seriously tired of hearing things about SOPA and PIPA. It was a big deal to me back when I had first heard of it, but right now, I could quite honestly care less. There was a similar thing that happened a few months ago that threatened people that make Let's Plays on youtube, and it was a big scare, but nothing ever happened with it. I don't support SOPA, but I am FED UP hearing about it. I doubt it will pass with the amount of opposition it's getting, so I don't see the reason to care.

Please, no more SOPA/PIPA related posts. If you actively oppose it, good for you, but it's a waste of your time and my time.

what exactly IS SOPA, anyway? I'll confess I didn't really bother to research much on it, but I got the idea that it was some kind of bill the US government is passing to close down a couple well-known sites (like YouTube) for whatever reason.

I won't ask for a lengthy explanation, but can someone give me a basic idea why it's so worth worrying about?

As far as I know, those in congress wish to pass this law to crack down on piracy. It would essentially allow the government - or should I say, the American government - the ability to close down sites which could publich piratic items. But its nothing to be worried about. Especially since we have Google on our side.

SOPA and PIPA are a pair of "anti piracy" bills designed to restrict file sharing software. Their measures are se extreme, however, that they would effectively shut down popular sites such as Youtube and even Twitter, and gennerally cripple the internet. Also, Anyone who posts content that is copyrighted to anyone other than themselves anywhere on the internet would wind up in jail under SOPA/PIPA. Even if you aren't a citizen of the US, you would STILL be effected by SOPA/PIPA. Additionally, SPOA is the Most controversial bill i've ever heard of; It was championed by the exact same companies that created and distribute the software that SOPA is trying to stop. They Want To SUE Us For Using THEIR OWN SOFTWARE.

Ah, I see you've watched our fine Mr. Mozart's video, "explaining" SOPA. Well, I'll be honest again, I think that video is a load of bull (I pardon myself from the "no swearing or suggestive language rule here). All that video is is him making a whole bunch of "gotcha!" moments that serve no real purpose in explaining what SOPA is. Watch TotalBiscut's explanation of SOPA (channel name: TotalHalibut) as well as his reaction to Mr. Mozart's video. In my opinion, TotalBiscut does a MUCH better job of explaining what SOPA is and why people should be opposing it.

Again, opposing SOPA isn't really important to me, but if you guys are going to oppose it, you should at least know what it is, and have someone that is good at explaining it.

Nick's emailed me, the Stud's inactive so I'm just going to essentially cancel him out, which leaves Andrew.

So, Andrew, do you want to choose the name for your character in The Farglow Facility or should I just make one up for you. I should also ask that, if you choose to let me name your character, you say whether you would have any problem with his first name being Andrew or his call sign being Bio.

just attempted to download your broadsword design as a test and while it was exceedingly slow, it did download it. The slowness might actually have something to do with my laptop rather than the programme.

seems to be working ok for me. In fact I'm digging some of the new parts they added, and loosing designbyme doesn't seem to be a major loss.

Hrm, a new LDD update, you say? Well, that's something... I dunno if I would have gone right ahead and updated it right away. I generally wait and see what condition it's in before updating it. Is it worth it? Are there new features or does it just mess the program up?

really? huh, I'll try it again.

and yeah, some of the new pieces are pretty cool. those flat 1x1 circular pieces may come in handy, I can see that "tool belt" becoming an "ammo belt", and there are a few more simplistic pieces in there as well that are a dream come true for building larger-sized Mechs.

oh, and if for some reason you'd like to buy the stuff you make, you can still (I think) order pieces from Pick-a-Brick, and the DbM Gallery is still up as well.

nothing terribly new. a couple pieces here and there from various new sets (Ninjago, Alien Conquest, the DC superhero theme, etc.), none of it going to be THAT useful for our kind of Mechs. they also changed the layout a bit. the DbM theme was essentially converted into LDD Extended, minus a few bricks here and there and each brick only in a couple colors, and the Universe theme is now full-fledged LDD Extended. oh, and they gave the actual program itself a better color scheme. :P

Great minds think alike, eh? That's pretty much the same method I use to paint my mechs. It'd be very helpful to anyone who doesn't do already though. However with transparents I generally do them last and individually, and I do the weapon painting separately.

Oh, and congratulations on being able to send all that from an iPod. =D

Meh, I updated it on our family computer, and it didn't look like there were all that many bricks out of place to me. I ran through most of the mech-building parts, and they looked like they were in their normal places. My guess is that the "complainers" on the LMBs probably only use extremely basic pieces or pieces that we don't generally use. Besides, we've gone through a pallet change before, and we can probably do it again if necessary.

Plus, the 1x1 round flats are TOTALLY worth it. :P

true. now my scopes won't have 1x1 flat plates on them, and the chest power cores should look a lot better. :P

and for those of us that build bigger Mechs, at least ones with a lot of SNOT, those new "angle plates" are going to be ridiculously handy.

The only feature I would like to see added to LDD is a number based way to control the camera.

You know, a dial that sets the horizontal angle, one that sets the vertical, and a distance dial.

And an option that allows you to select a piece as a default center.

It would make progression photos alot easier to make.

Also, a quick note, I'd like to say thank you for being made a moderator. I hope that I'll be useful in that capacity.

ever tried right-clicking on a brick? it automatically centers the view on whatever brick you click on. also, by right-clicking (not on a brick) and holding, you can easily control the camera view just by moving the mouse.

hope that helps. :)

That's not really what I mean.

You can do that, but it's near impossible to return the camera to an EXACT location. Like 33 degrees horizontal, 45 degrees vertical, as a distance of 12 inches, EXACTLY. This would be particularly useful for generating GIFs.

And I would have the 'default' so you can snap to it, so it can even be buried inside a build, and you wouldn't have to dismantle it in order to snap back to it.

LDD Update 4.2.5 is out. There's a ton of new parts in it, many of which are useful for mech building. The greater majority of the update parts are minifig accessories, but mechs can often use those too. The interface has a slick new coat of paint as well.

Alright, awesome, four people willing to help me out. :D I'll be making a new thread for that purpose soon, it will include the information you'll need about my map and what I want tested.

Could you make it a general EM made Adventure Map thread, rather than just for yours? Because I've been working on one for a while and I think Jak is still working on his.

Well guys I am very sad to say this but it seems they took down my Cutlass Assault mech on the CUUSOO site. They said I had to be 18 years old. It had nearly 1,400 supporters and 300 comments and now I have to wait almost 5 more years to get it back. :(

You are allowed to ask your parents to make an account and then you can try to get it all back. Or you wait five years. But I don't like I've ever seen an official LEGO mech in the western style of your Cutlass, so what's five more years on forever? =D

Um, possibly. It would change the posting dynamic I was hoping for, as I wouldn't be able to update the OP with new testing downloads, however I think I'll do that.

Very sorry about that, I know I said I wanted to be in it, but if you just make me have a small cameo here and there I would be fine. Also, my IC name should be Alyin Drenic, ('tis what I qlways use for my IC name).

'Kay. If you want you can still be in it, it's just I'd mentioned it before and you didn't reply. But if you're happy with a few cameos I'll put you in as a commander or a general or something.

New Hunger Games trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoUT7q2iTbQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player

It's a short one, but oh boy does it have a lot of content. I'm particularly thrilled about their choice for President Snow. Also, Caesar Flickerman gets a few seconds of recognition, though not enough baby blue lipstick in my opinion (if you've read the books, you'll understand).

Yeah, that last bit would sound odd without havind read the book. I finished it last week and I'd like to thank you and Jak profusely for recommending it.

As for the lipstick, if they put on too much he might end up looking even weirder than Effie Trinket, and that would be very weird.

EDIT: Darn, no italics.

Sure thing ED, glad you enjoyed it.

Oh, and as a side note, go to the IMDB page for the Hunger Games qnd look for the actress that played Effie. She underwent a near complete transformation for the role. I'm expecting some really wacked out bonus features with the boxed release.

as can probably be expected of me, I'll add Phantom Menace coming out in 3D soon.

I'm not terribly excited, really. I mean, 3D or not, it's still the same movie. however, everyone else seems real hyped-up about it, which means we'll probably see a good deal of other stuff, like new LEGO sets, video games, etc. and that is, for me, something to be pretty excited about.

Well, seeing as I haven't ever watched any of the other Batman movies, I can't say I'm really excited about it. Though Bane looks pretty cool.

I figured you'd be excited about that. Though, as most people agree, Episode I was the worst Star Wars film of them all. I don't fully understand the hate for Episode III though. Sure, the actors were definitely not acting to their prime, but the CGI was amazing.

the worst? no, that'd be Episode 3 or 4.

honestly I'd say they did a good job on Episode 1. no, it's not the best in anything, but it's still pretty close. the problem with most sci-fi shows and movies is that eventually that idea of "futuristic" comes to a point when it no longer looks that futuristic. Episode 1 got past that pretty well, though. yes, it has some flaws (Jar-Jar Binks, for example :P), and the plot has a few gaps, but otherwise it's pretty solid in a way the other movies aren't.

and sorry, but Episode 3 just isn't very good. they put WAAAY too much effort into the cool effects, and in the process didn't do good on other things like the plotline.

Episode 4 is also decent, but everyone thinks too much of its being the "original" movie. the effects are, by current standards, pretty bad, the plotline isn't great, and George Lucas made some of the same mistakes as most other sci-fi moviemakers of his time, giving it the problem Episode 1 managed to avoid.

my favorite would either be Episode 2 or 5. Episode 2 has THE best effects in my opinion, and still did well in other areas. Episode 5's plotline is legendary among movies and books alike. who's never heard the famous line "I am your Father!"? :P

Well, the main reason I think Episode I was the worst was because of A. Jar-Jar, and B. Anakin. I mean, the kid spouted garbage from his first appearance to the credits. "Now THIS is podracing!" Yeah, no way, Sherlock.

Also, what in the name of all things pertaining to sci-fi geekyness do you mean that Episode IV was one of the worst? You'd have gotten an admin slap if this were a normal site. :P While the graphics are quite old by todays standards, it was the first, and it delivered one heck of an epic ending. Watch the film-length featurette included in the original trilogy boxed set, and you'll gain a new appreciation for what they had to do to make the originals a reality.

Finally, I enjoyed both Episodes II and III purely for their CGI, and I lothed the story. III was a bit less disappointing as far as the story, what with you discovering the origins of Vader (and that epic "NOOOOO!!!" scene at the end). But I do understand what you mean by them spending too much time on the CGI. Still, that opening shot in III took my breath away the first time I watched it.

Personally, I prefer the original trilogy. They were so light hearted, even when they took themselves seriously. The new trilogy is missing that magical quality that the originals had.

Personally, my favorite movie is ROTJ. The ship to ship combat scenes were fantastic and detailed. The battle seen in the opening scenes of Ep. 3 are pretty good, but it just don't stand up to ROTJ.

I kept hoping that Jar Jar would get sliced in half by a lightsabre, I hated him so much.

As for the story in the new trilogy, it wasn't all that bad. What ruined it was that they took so much in the way of events, and pared them down. They put too much in each movie, and it made the movie rushed, and hard to follow. And the reliance on effects to cover this error did not go unnoticed, and was not appreciated.

Even the original trilogy only spanned, what, 5 years? The new one spanned a much longer time period. If it hadn't been rushed, and had been written better, I think the new trilogy would have done a lot better.

now, on a separate note, the Hunger Games. I suppose I could wait a few hours to just get a peek at it during the Superbowl, but I'm not really a very patient guy, and there's no guarantee a minute-long commercials gonna do a good job of explaining.

what in the world is the Hunger Games about? perhaps it's my over-curious personality, but after hearing little bits and pieces about it, I just can't stand not asking what exactly it's about.

so, no need for some uber-long explanation, but could some give me a basic idea of what the Hunger Games is?

What Jak said... or you could read this and then read the book because it's awesome:

So tomorrow (or sometime in the future anyway) there are massive storms and quakes and poverty and starvation and the world almost ends. Then the survivors in North America reform into a county called Panem. Panem is split into thirteen districs and a Captiol which controls them. Some time later, they rebel but lose and district thirteen is "completely destroyed". So the Capitol creates 'The Hunger Games'. Which are basically them saying to the districs: "Look at me I'm so boss I can make your kids fight to the death and you can't do nothing about it!" And then the main character (a girl from district twelve named Katniss) gets sent to the Hunger Games to fight before yelling at Arik to read the darn book already! =D
