The time has come to announce the winners! Before I do that, I would like to thank Chris for organizing this contest and for giving me the privilege of announcing the winner. He is a great guy and a great friend, not to mention he has a cute little as…um, moving on. I would also like the thank the other judges: Leda Kat, Kevin Walter and Master Shifu Leo J for all of their hard work and decision making throughout the contest. To all the contestants:

Awesome work one and all. It is hard enough to create something and post it out here for everyone to see, much more so when someone is literally judging it. I enjoyed going through all of your creations, and meeting many of you for the first time. Thanks for all the comments and the support.

To the judges:

Thank you so much for putting time and effort into this competition. There is so much going on behind the scenes for you guys in addition to having to rate and comment on all 500 entries, and I think you all did a great job. The categories were inspiring (and sometimes frustrating) and it really helped me stretch my building and writing skills.

Chris - Thanks for spearheading this contest and MOCpages in general. Not to mention adding some pretty cool creations while in the middle of judging!

Leda-Can't imagine how difficult it was to be working on this with all the world events going on in New Zealand. Thanks for all your encouraging words and perseverance.

Mister Bones-I could see that you were very busy with organizing and tracking scores and keeping the statistics of this ship running. Thanks for your effort.

Kevin-I loved being able to read your insights into the builds. Despite the language barrier, especially tricky phrases and spellings, you held all of us contestants to a high standard.

Master Shifu Leo J-Your wit and banter has made you one of my favorite persons to follow (stalk) on MOCpages and it was great to see it in full force on all of these entries.

See you all next year!

Well, thats it. I have to say, this was a very fun competition. I have learned many things, one is that i cannot build with system. ;)

Thanks to all the judges, who took SO much time out of their busy schedule. Leda, I hope that New Zealand is making a fast recovery. Judges, thank you for taking time to judge 501 creations! That is a amazing feat.

See you all next year!

the Five Easy Pieces were tops, or tied for tops in most categories. The ABS were tops in a few, and the Moist Towlettes and Jigsaw as well as well. The time it would take to list top scores in each category is not really worth the effort.

Yeah, maybe if we keep track from the begining next year.

I have all the data by team, that is how we kept score afterall. It would just be too time consuming for me to sort it and post the top score(s) in each category.
Every category had at least one perfect score in it except: Ancient Alien Theory, Spooktacular and Under the Bed.

First of all I’d like to thank Chris for creating this whacky contest, and ALL of the judges that he cons into taking part. Of course I’d like to thank the Sterlings for their generous prize donations as well. I never even looked at the prize thread until this morning, so had no clue Dave and Stacy were doing that. Thanks guys that’s awesome!!!! And don’t forget my “bonus”, Stacy. *wink, wink*

Thank you to the competitors who make this what it is. Without you guys, the team wouldn’t have driven themselves so hard to get to the finish line. Of course 5EPs and Jigsaw being the most competitive. Hats off to all of you!

Last but not least I have to thank my awesome team who put up with quite a bit of number crunching, strategizing, and category management from my end. Without you guys, none of this would have happened.

HUGE thanks to Josh, who helped maintain the team’s status. By my count Josh turned in 20!!!! Very impressive indeed! I also turned in 20 and even had a 21st built for the THIRD round!!! Unfortunately, Hans had a disaster at work and we couldn’t quite complete the second round.

For the record it was all of those 40ozers of Malt liquor that helped me build so many…..though arguably the last few were junk…..my apologies to the judges for dealing with that. And Leda….I will remember those 3’s next year when I’m a judge. Muwahahahhahha!!!

Thanks again EVERYONE!!!!

Congratulations ABS, you guys had a strong showing from the beginning to the end. I was surprised by your last-minute push that tipped the scales in your favor. You have shown that even in a marathon the winner is distinguished by mere seconds.

I'd like to thank all the judges for their tireless work, you guys made it possible to have this exciting competition. Working with a team is also a highly motivating experience. Individually, the MocAthalon has greatly pushed my creativity and production and I am happy to look back and see what I have made from it.

I'd like to wrap up my thoughts by mentioning the spectacular performance by groups such as the the 5 Monkeys who reached top 5 with a 4 man team and Team Jigsaw whose last minute comeback had the potential to win the contest. Lastly, my respect goes out to individuals who consistently built high-scoring MOCs and those who contributed greatly to their team's score. I can say without doubt that this was the most exciting and rewarding contest I've entered.

After reading the others two teams' ending speeches, mine now sounds kinda lame. Though brevity is the soul of wit, right?

As soon as the contest was running I was cheifly scared of 5EP, and set them up as the guys for us to beat out. Turns out that deduction was off by 30 points.

Arrgh ABS guys, you tricked me there with your "blow up the dam" stratagem. I would look at your team once in a while and I'd just say, "Oh, they only have 36 entires. No worries there." and move on.

5EP... You guys came up with some very nice MOCs for this, some of which are on my all time fave list. I was scared of what your team might come up with when they realized they were going to have to fight or die, and my fears were justified by what you did in the last 2 days.

This is part of what

And thanks for all the work that you judges put into this. It was a fun ride, and I'm sure it helped me as an MOCist, and I made some new friendos. :-)

The Rules:
"Each TEAM will try to build in as many of the categories as they can. If, and only if, you cycle (and post) in every category, your TEAM may attempt the categories a second time (and possibly, though highly unlikely, more)."

This was awesome. Seeya next year gents for the return of...

Jigsaw

That was actually our strategy. Once we started coming up to the completion of round 1, we all started to build and not post. In fact, the only reason why we started posting a day or so earlier than Wed for round 2 is that someone posted a Huck Fin build similar to Josh's and he wanted to post his so it wouldn't look like he copied the idea.

After that, we slowly posted a MOC here and there and let 5EPs and you guys duke it out, thinking we were sleeping at the wheel. We went into panic mode when it was pointed out the contest ended on the 30th and not the 31st like we had hoped.

The night before the end, I stayed up until 3 AM posting and building....fueled only by malt liquor, whiskey, and pepsi. Many of my posts sat in the team group pool until I felt ready to slowly trickle them into the MOC A pool.

Hey, congrats to the winners!
This year I more-or-less had a look at every entry, and was very impressed by the standard.
As for me, I really enjoyed taking part - and as there was no (realistic) chance of us winning in the last week or so, not having to do all-night builds was a bit of a relief to be honest!
And many thanks to the judges and the Sterlings for hosting such a great contest!

Well, ABS guys, congratulations! First place! It finally payed off to take away Heath' pills. One month of pure madness and you managed it exemplary. Fantastic output. Bravo!

I also want to congratulate the strong team 5 Easy Pieces for their very close 2nd place and some very amazing MOCs. This reminds me somehow of the movie "Le Grand Bleu".

And of course congratulations to Team Jigsaw for an amazing 3rd place.

Team Moist Towelettes had been my favourite team and although they didn't win, I think they created some stunning MOCs for the Athalon.

The same reason that prevented me from participating in the contest also prevented me from commenting or even looking at each Athalon creation. All I can say is that what I've seen so far is most impressive and that I'll enjoy more of the entries over the next weeks. Thanks to the judges and everybody else involved in the contest for this entertaining result.

Mr. Bones I know this will sound like a whine fest but I am getting sick and tired of being insulted by everyone else who keeps stating that Parrington built everything for our group. I actually built one-third of the categories in our group and Parrington took the reigns and built the other two-thirds as we agreed when we were still trying to compete. This is not a dig at Parrington either. He is easily one of closest friends I have around these parts and I would have left for good long ago if it wasn't for his support he gave me time and time again. I'm not so delusional to think that I'm very good compared to many of the fine builders on MOCpages and I know my work is easily forgettable but I just wish everyone would get their facts straight just once. On a lighter note, I would also like to extend my congratulations to the ABS for their hard-won victory. Thank you for the kind words as they are a comfort to me. However I have come to the conclusion that I need to walk away from LEGO in its entirety for the time being. To be blunt they're just not fun anymore. Maybe it's like any relationship. You spend some time away and you remember what was so good about it in the first place. If you go back one day it was meant to be. If not then you take it for what it's worth and move on. With that I'll say, so long.

Thanks to Anomaly for getting us into the third round of builds and overall just being a nice guy, A+ for effort mate!
Arkov... Always blowing my mind in such a short time frame, I mean, six builds in the last two days of the competition? Intense. Can't wait until October to meet you IRL.
Titolian, For the short amount of time you were with us you were great, maybe the fates will have you get sick the week BEFORE the MOCathalon. :-)

And to the judges, you guys put up with a lot of whining/complaining/sleepless nights and overall PITA people, thanks a ton guys!
