METAL LEGION THE TIME IS NOW!

Brothers, What are we doing here? Look at how many people there are in this group...28. Then look at how FEW reviews the entries have! It stinks! 27 guys should be commenting on each of those entries! Those few brave guys put forth the effort to build and post (for your amusement and your feedback!). You guys don't think your own Legion brothers even deserve to know your opinion? Is there a TAX or a FEE for yellow heads that I don't know about? Come on already! You guys seem kind of lazy. A very few (our best members I guess) have posted, and only a few guys have taken the time to comment on almost every MOC. Iím talking about Mr. Eckerson, Mr. Flynn, and Mr. E. A brave few indeed. What are the rest of you guys doing? Washing your hair? Letís go already! Stop being so selfish and start to lay down some serious reviews! Reviews are the best part of MOC pages...you want your stuff to be reviewed right? Otherwise we would all just post on flickr right? I'm sitting here in Iraq for crying out loud, and even I can find the time to review these MOCs! Get out there and bring the metal! Give your Metal Legion brothers the same respect that you want. Give them your opinions. Give them your reviews. Attack!

Mr. Flynn, these "speeches" would only be good if they motivated people to action...but these words in fact acomplish nothing. Shhh...Listen...here the crickets? This place is like an apartment building with 22 dead residents, and 6 living. There are people here...but no movement, no exchange of ideas, no action. Except for the core of 4 or five people, most of the members seem to have joined on a lark, and feel no urge to follow up with either a MOC or even their opinions of the other MOCs. I'm wondering about their motivations for joining the group in the first place. I mean...something did motivate them to join...So what's the deal? Why so little action? I think they are flattened by the rules about what your ML guys have to look like. Iron Legacy has very lose standards, but they have a great participation level. I think people feel more creative freedom over there, but over here, they are all worried about failing to meet the rules. Itís like a delicate balance: No rules results in a contest with no real winner, because nobody really understands the game. To many rules scare people away. Your thoughts?

I agree. We need better builders that understand rules. You got any good ideas for new good members? Several of the "good" people we have invited have ignored us. Do you think you could get any good builders to join our group?

Mr. Flynn, I don't think we need better builders. I have been impressed with every MOC I have seen on this page. I think we need to make better rules. Rules that are easy to follow. Rules that offer more freedom to builders. Iron Legacy has pretty liberal rules, and they have massive participation. But remember, this contest was a learning exercise. So focus on different rules maybe?

I shall take a look at the rules and see what people might not get. Iron Legacy may have more members, but look at 3/4 of them, NOT very good builders. Look at Metal Legion, About 1/2 of 'em are fairly decent. IL may have more participation, but the authority in that group stinks. Metal Legion isn't as big, but I haven't seen ONE member complain, and we've been around longer than Iron Legacy.
I realize that this contest was a bad idea, but what was this contest for? To get Metal Legion on the map, to give us a chance to show our skill and to improve Mark and I's leadership. Even though the idea didn't work out, I think it was a great experience for Metal Legion.

Ditto, but don't talk about Iron Legacy like that.

I couldn't help it.

I looked at the rules and they seemed easy to understand. If you have some suggestions you can post 'em.

Mr. Flynn, letís see, where to start. First I guess I don't agree with you about the quality of the Iron Legacy builders. They are a good group, and they post good work. Frankly, I hear a lot of talk about how good people think their group is...but numbers don't lie. Iron Legacy builds MORE. More MOCs means more GOOD MOCs. Second, if you want people to participate in the group, you can't really dump on them (like saying the rules are good, and they are the problem). Third, I like law and order...I like rules...but if the rules scare people away from building, then they are to tight.
On the up side, I think you, Mr.Eckerson, and Mr.E have learned a good deal in your first Metal Legion contest! That was one of your goals. Your next contest will be better.
As for specific recommendations about rules: Focus on what builders are SUPPOSED TO DO. Not on what they are NOT ALOWED TO DO.
Remember that growth comes from FUN. No FUN = No GROWTH.
I look forward to your next project! And put your squad on MLRC with your home state so I can put you were you belong, On the Garrison Commanders List! Build! Post! Review! Attack!
