The following transmition is intended for all members of the Metal Legion Recruiting Command, to include active Garrison or Militia Commanders as well as inactive members.
After approximately 6000 hours of continuous operations, several battles, and more than a few building challenges, the Metal Legion Recruiting Command is going to cease operations and stand down. MLRC final transmition will be sent on JAN 31 2012. This decision is final.
This site will remain on MOC pages but only as the sole repository for the MLRC command list, the list of those members of the Legion who had the vision, motivation, and determination to assemble, train, and deploy Garrisons and Militias when the alarm bells rang and the cities burned.
I am closing MLRC because despite it's outstanding growth (88 Members...I never dared to dream we would do so well!) and despite the uninterrupted stream of outstanding MOCs you have all produced, I simply can no longer give MLRC or its members the attention you all so richly deserve. Since I have returned from overseas, my work load has actually increased, and making up for lost time with family simply has no end.
I started the MLRC while stationed overseas, as an experiment and as a form of entertainment for myself. It worked marvelously. I learned a huge amount about groups on MOCpages, about communication on the internet, and about the Lego hobby. I am deeply and personally indebted to everybody who wrote a single word on this site be it friendly, not so friendly, or downright belligerent. You buoyed my spirits when I was in a fairly lousy place, and provided me valuable experience at the same time. Well done all of you!
It was always a specific goal for me, and a matter of particular pride for me that MLRC be a truly international site. I extend an especially heartfelt “Thank you” to all the members of the Legion form around the world. Each commander form a different culture, language group, or nation lent our group a depth and texture that is quite frankly, lacking in many MOCpage groups. I hope you will always take the time to “show us how Lego is done” in your own countries!
The Metal Legion itself will continue at the ML home page, and I urge you all to shift your focus to that site. MLRC was only ever just an arm of that larger effort. Return to the home page and re-new your efforts there.
For my part, I will remain active on MOCpages, but will return to my earlier role of occasional builder/poster and roving commentator. Perhaps in a few months, or a year perhaps I will start another group.
Again, it pains me to shut the effort down, but you all deserve more of my time and my attention than I have been able or willing to give you in the past months.
I would be remiss if I did not extend a special thanks to Keith Goldman, Chris Phipson, and Commander Pauper for their divergent, insightful, and spirited encouragement in this endeavor. Thanks to you all for your wise, varied, and often humorous counsel.
Under any circumstances, and at every opportunity:
Quoting Kyle Peckham
Sad to see it go. Does that mean the Rebel Scum one? Hope not, this was a fun ride while it lasted. Thanks for all that you've done, Commander.
Final Transmission from the MLRC hadquarters.
Commander Peckham. No, the rebels did not win. The MLRC has accomplished what is best in life. What is that? As Conan said when asked that question, "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women." So don't be sad. Be proud of a mission accomplished, and accomplished well. Permalink
This Command Post is clearing the net. No further transmitions will be made from this location. MLRC had a good run, and we lower our banner not in defeat, but simply because this campaign is at an end.
It has been a real pleasure to work with each and every one of you, and I shall be sure to let each of you know when I start a new group.
