I'm not sure, but I think some of the Japanese battleships were based off European designs

The British, the Japanese, and the Americans are some of the best builders. The British were some of the first to put copper on their boats to prevent natural damage and did alot of work with the modern day aircraft carrier, the Japanese built the mighty Yamato, and the U.S. flat out has alot of ships.

Of course, we Germans, the British, Japanese and US got a couple of good and fearful battleships. But all had to learn that as soon as planes get more advanced, the weaponclass "battleship" gets out of date.
Just 4 example the technical most advanced Bismarck was seriously damaged by just one plane's torpedo.
