Welcome everyone to our MOCpages home! Hopefully this page will lead more departments to join, and will give us somewhere to discuss issues. Keep it safe!

Due to the fact that teen and adult suicide is on the rise in Bricktree and the surrounding area BTVFD's new Rescue truck will be SPT Equiped.

Engine 3 will also now carry on a trained Firefighter to deal with suicide calls, and will carry a SPT equipment, Engine 1 will also carry the basics just like Engine 3, when funding becomes available a new medical unit much like SVFD's will be ordered. For now, all fire fighters and paramedics (including medlink ones) are being trained to deal with such cases. Its great that Stud City Fire Department
is getting in touch with others and task forces like these. -Paulo R.

SPIT handles most suicide calls. Otherwise, a 1st alarm can be toned to send in 1 engine and 1 truck.

Brickville runs a Medic and an Engine on suicide calls just like any other medical call. They stage until police clear them to come on scene. The only exceptions are if the victim has already attempted suicide and failed, then the units would proceed to scene without the need for clearance, or if the victim has taken their life or if they are terminal. In that case, the department Chaplain and Medical Examiner would be called to scene.

StuddsVille Fire Department has all their crews trained for Suicide prevention and intervention, and all officers are trained to handle the IC for such calls.

Primary response is SPU 1, followed by one of the rescue or squad companies, and additional resorces can be called in the form of one of SVFD's own units or Mutual Aid.

*UPDATE* SVFD responded to a suicide attempt on the beach, go to my page for the story and pics.

On the afternoon of June 21, 2011, a Salem girl attempted suicide. This hits home very hard, because the incident occured less than two blocks from my house. I was on-scene with Salem firefighters, and it was very hard to hold back tears. To see a life that is so young, and almost was taken from the world is very hard to handle. I always find it striking that children so young are attempting- and comitting- suicide. It never gets any easier to see. So take this into mind, as it is becoming a reality in more cities across the US. God bless.

I've had a few people that I know commit suicide, and a very close friend that I've known for years attempt it over a school break. Which was a few blocks from my house also. She was taken into foster care due to sexual abuse from BOTH her parents, and other rapes. She's been back for a few weeks and is doing well taking care of and playing with the elementary school kids a few blocks away.

All of Brickway Manor's firefighters are SPT trained. All Officers are trained to run IC until the Chief can respond.

Our primary response unit is 2717, backed by an ambulance. However, 2719 and 2715 are also equipped to run as the primary unit on SPT calls if the need arises.

Urban Search and Rescue 5 will function as Suicide Prevention Unit. Soon we will get a full time unit.

USAR 5 is staffed by a crew of 2 from Engine 5. They are trained in SP&I.

Because of low call ratio this was approved by LSFD chief, Nathan Willis.

That's not necessary! Each department runs its own unit, with its own unit number. For example, we have three Rescue 1s (I'm pretty sure) and that's fine! Usually each unit stays in its own city anyway. You don't need to change it.
