Welcome everyone to the Maserati Scuderia thread.

I thought it might be useful to start a thread for my team, and also since MortalSwordsman suggested it a while back, here it is.

My transporter (still working on it - about 85% finished; I still need to buy tiles for the top deck) is 20 studs wide, so it's on the "small side" as far as transporters go in this group. Ehh...so that means in order to be the right scale for it, the race cars will need to be 12 studs wide...max. Yes, I know in the rules it says they need to be 16+ to be listed, so I asked Ape Fight (via email) if it could still be listed on the group's homepage. He said it was fine with him, but he wanted to make sure it was fine with the other members. He wanted me to ask, but I forgot until now.

So everyone - is it okay?

I also will be posting links of photos of the transporter and cars soon (they're die-cast, though) for reference.

I built the lower deck sideways, but for the top deck, I don't have the parts to build sideways and be strong.

As long as it looks good and is not too small, I don't mind the transporter being not wide enough

Fine with me LB but what I can't fathom is if your Transporter is 20 wide why can you only fit a 12 wide car on it?

My transporter is 22 wide and i can just squeeze an 18 wide car in it and my two 16 wide Porsches fit perfectly.

But I have no problem with it being slightly smaller. And i'm looking forward to seeing it!

12 or 14 wide would probably be the correct scale in relation to the 20 wide truck though, as like the Ferraris going on mine, the Maseratis are '60s, and therefore roadcar based. By the '70s racecars were purpose built and therefore much wider.

Oh wait...I originally counted it a long time ago when I first built the chassis, and I guess i counted it including the wheel arches. So you could say it's only 18 studs wide. I think I forgot that I counted it with the wheel arches. Well that explains why it can only handle 12 wides... :(

That makes sense. Mine is 24 wide at the wheel arches, but 22 wide at the body, meaning the most it can take is 16 wide (15 would be more comfortable). The top deck supports eat into space. However, I think 14-16 wide is correct for the scale, so 12 wide should be about correct for yours.

How's progress on the truck LB?

Honestly, not very well. It hasn't been built for at least a month, maybe more. I got to the point a while back where I can't build anymore without a Bricklink order, and unfortunately, I haven't got the time recently to place an order. The last few days have been quite busy and I've been stressful from other things.

Thankfully, I'll probably have more free time in the coming weeks. So hopefully, I'll be able to place an order soon.

As I mentioned on Flickr a while back, my Ferrari 458 Spider is in a contest; I should get the results soon, meaning I'll be able to post it soon. It's been SO long without a car MOC.

Sure. I would suggest building it in 12-13 studs wide (my Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage is 12 studs wide) since my transporter wouldn't be the right scale for anything over or under. 13 studs wide is do able, but it would be a bit of a challenge. It's up to you. Feel free to shoot me an email at legobuilders.moc@gmail.com if you have issues with the build. I would be more than willing to help! I want to build another Maserati race car too, but Mortal expressed his wishes to build one too. So I think I'll let him build it if he's still up to it. To be honest, I'm a bit tight on money at the moment and time. But summer might free up the time, and maybe money. So many ideas but not enough time or money to fulfill them! :(

Hmm...I'm not sure yet. I don't mind waiting a few months for a race car to be completed though. I'll have to think about it.

Mortal, do you have a bunch of non-red parts that you could use to build a Maserati? It would be best if not all our cars are red.

Cool! I've seen that set in stores quite a few times, but I somehow was able to walk away from it. Seeing it yesterday for $30 was so tempting!

Feel free to email me, and I'll help you the best I can. Building it in 13 studs wide will be a challenge, but don't give up or get frustrated. Getting frustrated won't get you anywhere (I learned from experience. When I get frustrated, it often results in my car getting destroyed).

Hopefully, your car won't be too complicated.

Good luck!

I do enjoy the set, but it disappointed me quite a bit. Theres just not enough red lego! Anyways, the front is coming along quite nicely, I used your front grill technique but using some SNOT techniques there was no gap in between the two wheel arches. Sadly, I won't be making it in 13 wide, as I can't do that with the wheel arches without making the front to tall. I'll try to build some more than post some pictures here.

No problem, as long as it doesn't take years to finish. Hahaha

I've been building this team's transporter (don't ask me what its "real" name is called - it's much too long to remember, and even if I do remember, it would be too painful to type on either a tablet or an iPod) since Dec. 2011 so it's been almost 1/2 a year, but it hasn't progressed much since, er, early this year. Due to the fact that, at this point, I don't have enough money to spend on a BrickLink Order. Maybe I will in summer, but no promises.

BTW, I've got four WIPs at the moment - an Enzo (yeah, another one since I absolutely love the Enzo!), the Maserati transporter, a fictional F1 car (it's actually finished, but I need to take phtotos of it and complete the LDD instructions - the instructions will be for sale), and a 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth. Stay tuned! Haha

Yes, another Enzo. I was never 100% pleased with either of them, and as it's my favorite car in the world, I decided to give it another try.

My RC project is currently on hold, as I don't have the money I need to begin building; I decided not to build an Aston, but a Bowler Nemesis (that's the plan). The summer months could pass before I start building it.

Do it! That is the best thing about taking your builds apart, unless you have endless pieces that is. I actually really like recycling my pieces and am currently dismantling many of my mocs to start the next round of creations. Unfortunately, I have major Moc Block at the moment – loads of ideas but I cant get started.

It's still alive, though I have "borrowed" some tiles for my other cars. Ten to one I will dismantle it and start completely from scratch. I will also like to add steering.

Does anyone know what wheels and steering system Jens used one this MOC? http://www.flickr.com/photos/legoexotics/5221052553/in/set-72157625838903043/

Thanks for your willingness to help. It would be 12 wide, yes, it's pretty small. If it's not possible, it doesn't need to be connected to a steering wheel or anything like that.

The steering wheel is the hard bit for me, since I don't have enough U-joints. (I superglued 2 of my broken ones to some short axles today, just so I could use them for something) But the rack& pinion are easy enough. Thanks for your willingness to help. It would be 12 wide, yes, it's pretty small. If it's not possible, it doesn't need to be connected to a steering wheel or anything like that.

I know a simple technique that works for at least 8 wide :) if you want i could post a simple chassis with it!

The steering wheel is the hard bit for me, since I don't have enough U-joints. (I superglued 2 of my broken ones to some short axles today, just so I could use them for something) But the rack& pinion are easy enough. Just give me a minute, I'll probably just add the pics to an old MOC that has no smilies. =)

Ok, thanks! I'm truly terrible at Technic - you wouldn't even want to see what I've made in the past.

I remember one that I saw on Flickr for an 8 wide, but I'm guessing your way is different.

it's probably the same if it said something like "where you move it the wheels go" there is no gears and it is very simple, you could get the instructions from ldd, i'm about to post it, ill give you the link when i'm done ;)

EDIT: By this I mean that the front is basically complete, I haven't started building the rear or middle yet. I'm not looking forward to the doors -.- I'll try to post a photo on Flickr soon :)

I personally never leave a gap between the doors and the rest of the body, so it does require a bit of a "wiggle" to open/close. Or you can do some SNOT-work so there's a 1/2 plate gap, making it easier to open/close.

I could use SNOT, but theres already too much so it would be quite fragile, and it would be pretty confusing for me with all the half-stud jumper plate connections.Would the door open more easily if I used slopes?

Ah, okay. Sorry, I don't really get what you mean by "if I used slopes." :-)

I would recommend using droid arms. See this photo: http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=291333&id=/user_images/68065/13186517551

The door doesn't need to have SNOT like I did there; you can easily change that part.

Finished the doors! They open and close perfectly! (I'll post a pic later, if i have time) As for the M.O, I still need to come up with something. I'm all hyped up right now, a basketball all-star (Andre Iguodala) came to our school today (which is kinda weird, and int'l school in beijing) and I got his autograph :D

Yeah, making a BL order can take a few hours. I usually write out a list of what I'm missing, then as I enter each piece to my cart, I put a check mark on the list.

But actually the reason why my projects are taking so long is I went into a builder's block back in May/June. And after the MO, I think my builder's block has gotten worse.

Yeah, the one on Flickr is by Tim Inman, right?

I'm starting to build my finished model in LDD as well for two reasons:

1) making sure I'm not using any illegal connections (gotta be sturdy)

Only now do I realize how useful LDD is...before, I would get frustrated because I couldn't find any of the pieces (I still can't find some, they have the weirdest category system), but now, it's finally working a lot better. :) If I ever have to leave my collection for a period of time, expect some LDD builds from me. Still prefer the real deal tho. :)

Sorry Larry, I don't know which those are. And in reply to your question of Flickr, the Birdcage is being built from scratch, but I'm still using many of the old techniques on the new one.

But in case anyone was wondering about my progress with LEGO cars, I spent my free time yesterday tearing parts of my Enzo so that I could improve its overall structural rigidity. It is now approximately 90% complete - part of the engine cover, its hinge, the engine, and the interior still need to be built.

Both my Maseratis haven't been even touched for over a month.

I just built a tiny bit more on my Maserati. It's coming along really slowly. It's actually pretty disappointing how it's turning out, though -- definitely not par with my other cars, and therefore way below all the other transporters in this group. Also, I've abandoned rebuilding the birdcage, because it's going to cost more than what I'm willing to pay for bricks from BL.

Quoting Lego Builders
Brick ster:

Seeing that you haven't been active for a while, I'm changing the vehicle you claimed in this team back to "open" status. If you would still like to build that, please let me know.
-LB Jr.

First of all I would like to apologize for not being active the last year, but I fell sick for 6 months so I couldn't make anything in LDD, and the past 6 months I was really busy for school, so I hope you guys understand that it wasn't easy the last year, no matter what I will build the partstruck for the Maserati scuderia team, it schould be finished half September, it'll be in LDD because I don't have enough bricks to build it in real life. I only have one question remaining, may I still build the truck? Thanks for reading.

Welcome back Mr. Ster, we hope you are better now.

Whether LDD or real you can still add your upcoming creation to the Group pool. The Teams section is really for real models though, but it is up to the team owner.

Yes, you can still build it, but I'll only mark it as claimed on the homepage if you have intentions of building it with real bricks eventually. I hope you are better now.

Unfortunatly I will only be able to build it in LDD, because I don't have the right bricks and I am going to college so I won't really have much time left to built things in Lego, both in LDD and in real bricks. I'm sorry for the late response.
