So what kind sci-fi is everyone into? Star Wars mainly for me but I would like to get into making some halo mocs (Even though there is a lot of bad warthogs out there already)

I only build my own stuff. Mechs and spacecrafts mostly.
Oh, I also did a SW story once, but it was really a parody. Permalink | September 2, 2011, 8:08 pm |

Yeah, 23rd is still around. We merged groups though, only a few core members are still active. Permalink | September 6, 2011, 9:59 pm |

Not quite. It's just Ian, Danny, SISE, Josh, and I left now, pretty much. Permalink | September 6, 2011, 10:13 pm |

I really love star wars but build castle! I'm not sure if that all the way qualifies as fantasy but I posted 2 creations. I loved the new Star Trek also that was awesome! Permalink | September 8, 2011, 6:54 pm |

So what kind sci-fi is everyone into?
Hmm... Tough one, since speculative fiction is the main thing I like.
I guess I'll start by doing what everyone else is, and listing my favorites. I like most of the big ones, but I have a few that really appeal to me:
-Mass Effect
-The Host (As in the Stephanie Meyer book. I'm not sure what this says about my taste in literature, but it's my opinion that it is good sci-fi and good literature and I'll defend it.)
-Honorable mention goes to Stargate, which, while falling just short of my standards for "top most really amazingly awesome sci-fi", is awesome and well-written enough that it comes close. Especially the original film.
But in general, my tastes in sci-fi depend less on the hardness (though that's always a bonus), and more in that they use speculative elements to weave an interesting story. The story can be about centaurs from Saturn for all I care, as long as it's written well. I actually don't read much sci-fi literature in comparison to my fantasy intake, as most of the sci-fi literature out there reads like a tech manual written by someone whose mere presence ruins parties. But I've been taking extra care lately to change that, and I've found some series that look promising.
Another thing important to me when it comes to sci-fi, and fiction in general, is that it be fairly idealistic. I don't have much patience for cynicism. I'm not saying it has to be Disney-esque, just that I tend to stop reading if I get the feeling that the author's outlook towards life in general is too downbeat.
Finally, I like a good romance subplot. Paranormal romance is a thing; why isn't sci-fi romance?

Well, I'm a huge Star Wars and Doctor Who fan. I also enjoy novels by H G Wells and Jules Verne, among other books. As for fantasy I like anything by R.A. Salvatore, and anything Dungeons & Dragons related. Permalink | August 29, 2012, 11:25 am |

Oh, and by fantasy I presume (hope) that you meant back in time? And sci-fi, of course, more in the future? Permalink | August 29, 2012, 11:41 am | |
