This sounds like fun - I have no idea yet what I am going to set up.

I'll enter the small-baseplate-sized modules I've been working on. They can be fit together in various ways. I've posted a quick photo, and will have some better photos this weekend.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's entries!

Thanks for joining, everyone! This might be the first actually successful group I've run!

I've been working on the Lost Mines of Nathuz, a multi-level board. The fist floor (ground level) is based on the Caverns of Nathuz. The rules are a bit different, with new enemyies like giant snakes, scorpions, king spiders, and a Dragon. The enemies are also much harder to kill (the king spiders have eight health!). I don't have any of the actual Heroica games yet, so it can get difficult at times.

Well, I don't have a board for this month, so I guess I can be the judge. Judging will be during the last week of each month.

I'm going on vacation for a few days, so I probably won't be able to finish my board in time.

Uh... bragging rights? Comments? I don't know, what do you want to win? No merchandise, though.

Okay... the deadline for this month will be October the 24th. Judging will be in the last week (I'm giving myself a week so I have time to actually do it). I see there are already four entries; that is good!

Well, I got my module about half done over the weekend and was hoping to complete it tonight. But as I misread the contest end date I needed to finish by today so I'll keep working on it and submit it for next month. Good luck to all the contestants and thanks to all for entering!

Hey Ben, I think it would be cool if you could add an official-looking "Congrats you won Nth place in the Heroica Custom Board Contest" comment to the winning models. Maybe also add a link back to this group to promote the current contest.

OK everyone, I've added an entry for this month's contest. Read the 'Story' of what goes on in the Summer Palace over in the Heroica Story section

Anyone else working on an entry? If not, I'll put the contest deadline at Nov 23.

I have a suggestion for next month's contest. I noticed a nice Ninjago polybags (http://groovebricks.com/?p=2836), and it got me to wondering - who can make the best small $10 add-on set for one of the Heroica games? What would you like to see? A treasure vault? Wizard's lab? Prison cells? perhaps a Tavern?
The rules:
- 50 pieces or less
- one 8x8 room, or two 6x6 rooms, plus hallways
- up to three microfigs or monsters
- a new treasure (relic, new weapon, new potion, etc)

Ben, is there a specific theme for this month's contest as Paul has suggested? Either way, it would make sense to make sure there is no confusion about what is expected this month - anything goes (as in the previous two contests), or a 50 piece entry (as suggested by Paul)?

I think that a specific theme could be fun for this month. I've already started brainstorming ideas!

ALRIGHT, EVERYBODY!! Follow the rules that Paul set up a few comments above this.

Don't worry about me, my schedule has gotten pretty crammed and I haven't had much time for building, I post my board some other time(That way I can perfect it!).
Paul Gyugyi had a fine idea and I advise you to use it.

Vern Peterson is judge for this month, because he won last month's contest. Did you mean, "sit out for this month?" I'm just confused is all.

np I can see how you would be. I will try to make something, perhaps I can do something tomorrow. I was just saying I could judge if there was no judge, nvm then.

Question, do monsters, obstacles, gold, relics and stuff count towards the total piece count? 'Cause if so, then I have to completely rebuild my entry!

I included them in the piece count for my model, but I think we can be a little flexible.
For example, if you need a 1x4 brick, but use two 1x2s because you don't have a 1x4 in the right color, you could count that as just one brick. Also, if you make a set designed to be added on to a board (for example Draida), you can use the monsters and items from that game.
Just me sure to point out which 50 pieces come in the polybag, and which were taken from the game.

Paul and Ben,
I think Paul's response is a good one. As the judge this month, if you do use parts from the attached to set (for example Draida as Paul mentioned), it would be good to have one picture with the contents of the proposed poly bag only, and a second picture with the reused parts. Add as many other photos as you like. That will help me be fair with the judging.

As a side comment, I'm thinking the contest will close end of day December 27th. That will allow for time to make use of any Christmas presents that might be received, and still time for judging the entries.

Nope! The idea is to invent the contents for a Heroica Polybag, not to exceed 50 pieces. Paul's more complete description is a few posts above.

How about mini-contests? Either alongside or within the monthly competition.

For things like best new potion, best new weapon, best new hero, best new monster/boss, best new trap/mechanic.
