Just so it doesn't all fall to one person to organise everything, I wondered if the mods/admins would like volunteers to organise competitions further down the line. Not specifically judge them or choose the theme, but volunteer to bring any suggestions together, collate rules changes and basically hold the fort if LTE is busy with work. I'm sure a few of us would be more than willing to step in. Plus rather than clog up the Contest 2 convo with more suggestions about THAT comp, I thought it might also be a good idea to have discussions about the next comp, or the one after that, separate (as already pointed out contest 2 convo 1 got a little hard to follow).

I'm more than willing to offer my time to keep a summary of all the suggested themes together.

Good idea Andros. I'm not sure how far my powers as a mod go, so I'm not sure if LTE would want others doing the work for him. But if he wants I'll help too.

to get the ball rolling, does anyone have any preference for themes that maybe haven't been discussed yet that might work for a future contest?

We already have back-up suggestions of:

Aquatic
remix
micro
racer
space
steam punk

But (ignoring scale) anyone have any other suggestions for themes?

I was thinking last night that maybe attempting mecha styled units but for different time periods. We set an era, say "cowboy" or "medieval" and try and create something with mecha traits to fit that era. Judging could be based on how well it fits the theme as well as how well it is built.

ummm... errmmmm... oh, that's tough.

well, one could be insectoid Mechs, essentially any Mech that looks like a bug (or spider, for those that are picky about arachnids not being insects :P). I used to build a lot of those back at DbM.

also, on your idea of making Mechs to fit past eras... well, maybe this is just me, but I have a tendency to dislike anything that might be considered "unrealistic" or "impractical" with my Mech designs, which tends to cause me to eliminate unnecessary greebles, tech that I can't explain the workings of, and other things. and I really can't imagine how a Mech from a different era could ever work (with the exception of Steampunk).

but hey, maybe that's just part of working outside my comfort zone and taking on new challenges.

Simple explanation:"It's magic!" :)

No, seriously, I'm all for the medieval or steampunk themes! I just love mechas in a fantasy enviroment, you don't have to explain everything to the last tiny detail. But even if it's a fantasy theme, there's nothing you can't explain in a realistic way, just use your imagination.

PS: Arik, I think you forgot to write the rating out in your comment on my Viper, correct me if I'm wrong :P

exactly. besides, if we don't run contests that are outside our normal comfort zones, we will not get much variety. Hence the reason I changed my mind about the racer contest.

ok folks, since the current competition is almost concluded, now would be the best time to add your suggestions to the list for future contest themes (unless your suggestion has already been mentioned)

remember this is suggestions for ANY future contest, so even when the contest 3 theme is decided you are still welcome to put more suggestions here. That way we can get a head start on contest 4...

If you prefer, rather than suggestions for themes, you could also put forward rules amendments.

shall we do aquatic now, perhaps? now that the size limit's been bumped up a bit (right?), I'm definitely ready for it.

also, for a future contest (preferably not this one), I had an idea concerning the remix idea. what if we combined the remix theme with a different theme, thus having to fit someone else's earlier contest entry to the new theme. for example, if we took someone else's racer Mech and had to make it capable of operating in space, or something along those lines.

so as the last contest is finishing up, you can start posting ideas for future contests.
BTW, the next contest is going to be led by Bio. He may decide on a theme all on his own, so your ideas may not necessarily be heard. But who knows? Certainly not me. I'm just giving Bio the option to be benevolent dictator for the next contest.

no, I was referring to the contest's theme.

...or did you just go ahead and pick that out yourself? :S

I had an idea for a contest:

The person running the contest chooses say, 200 pieces, and then the entries must be built from only those pieces. Maybe they can be recoloured, maybe not, whoever runs it can decide that.

So, whadda you guys think?

hmmm, that sounds interesting. I'd certainly be willing to give that a go. It sounds similar to the Creator challenge that LEGO themselves set a few years back.

just a thought guys, but since we are well into Exam season, those of us who are Students and Teachers are likely to have very little spare time for Moc'ing, so I'd suggest holding off on the next contest just in case. Maybe start it as a summer challenge since we would all have about 6-8 weeks with plenty of free time.
