NnoVVember 2012 Vic Viper of the Month
 Group admin
Scott Allen had the idea of a contest and Lucky Leprechaun had the idea to simply judge the NnoVVember 2012 entries in "The Club".

Our mods Senator Chinchilla and David Alexander Smith have agreed to judge, so the three of us will be the judges for the "NnoVVember 2012 Vic Viper of the Month" contest.

I like to keep the judging simple, so lets adapt the rules Dan the Man uses for his famous contests:

Each of us can name his Top 5 and then we add points for each creation.

I also like the idea of naming some additional models that deserve to be mentioned, maybe 5 additional models for each judge.

The points for the models could be p.e. 6 for a 1st place, 5 for a 2nd, ..., 2 for a 5th place and 1 for the other named models.

Of course, no judge could vote for his own model(s). It would be even better if no judge could vote for a model built by one of the other judges, either.

What do you (especially the judges) think about that?

Voting starts December 1, 2012 and should be finished one week later (the earlier the better). As soon as I have the other votes I'll add mine and sum up the points.

Are we allowed to put 2 vipers from the same person in 2 places? Or should this be like Dan's contest where no person can take 2 victory spots?

I'd say we have the best vic by each builder, and clarify that the competition recognises the best vic builders?

I think maybe there should be a limit of 1 spot per person in the top 5. As many honorable mentions as they deserve, and maybe a sidenote stating they would've gotten 3rd if they hadn't already gotten 2nd or something like that? I don't usually judge things... idk what would be fairer?

So... Only the moderators are allowed to judge? It would be better if everyone could be able to vote.
We only have 1 admin+ 2 mods, that would be 15 votes, not enough for the whole Nnovvember.

Sounds good to me! Each one of us can write a fews lines for each of the top 5, just like Dan does.

Then the next five positions plus additional notes like you suggest.

No, we would have 30 votes, the top 5 plus 5 more by each of the 3 judges with points from 6 to 1.

I'd like to keep it as simple as possible...

Here are some statistics for the "NnoVVember 2012 Vic Viper of the Month" contest:

I've counted the new Vic Vipers for NnoVVember 2012, too, and I've got the same result as Lucky:

Total Vic Vipers added to the "Owners Club" in NnoVVember 2012:
66

And there are some more numbers...

Total Vic Vipers added and built in NnoVVember 2012:
63

Total builders with VVs added in NnoVVember 2012:
36 (including the judges)

Total builders participating in the "NnoVVember 2012 Vic Viper of the Month" contest:
33

Most Vic Vipers posted by one builder:
11 by Rex David (posted on 3 pages: #22, #36, #57)

The first Vic Viper added and built in NnoVVember (#01) was my "Classic Space Cosmic Viper", the last one (#66) was John Stahlman's "Tie Viper".

Out of the contest are the Vic Vipers built by the judges (#01, #03, #14, #16, #17, #38 and #52) plus three more models that have been posted earlier than NnoVVember 2012 (#06, #09 and #35).

The following builders have posted more than one page qualified for the contest (starting with the last page added):
Super Spy X: 2 (#64, #02)
Lucky Leprechaun: 4 (#60, #30, #18, #15)
Jon B: 3 (#59, #24, #07)
Rex David: 3 (#57, #36, #22)
Stuart Lucas: 2 (#56, #34)
Rafael Acevedo: 4 (#49, #43, #29, #19)
Andros Tempest: 5 (#48, #47, #46, #33, #05)
Freeling ++: 2 (#45, #44)
Xtopher Brick: 2 (#42, #26)
AC Pin: 2 (#37, #08)
Mihee Stonee: 2 (#27, #25)
Paul Vermeesch: (#21, #20, #11)
Mark Stafford: (#13, #12)

Only one model by builder should be voted into the Top 10 of each judge.

Each judge will vote his personal Top 5 plus 5 additional models worth mentioning.

I'd say we should have the votes at least until next weekend (the earlier, the better).

The votes will be counted this way:

#1 - 6 points
#2 - 5 points
#3 - 4 points
#4 - 3 points
#5 - 2 points
#6 ... #10 - 1 point

So the maximum points for a model will be 18.

The model with the most points will be our "NnoVVember 2012 Vic Viper of the Month". In case of equal points the public vote will decide (the number of likes).

That's it for now ...

Well, Ive done my voting. This is the order I finally came up with.

1 - Jon B: GAIA - Training Viper (6 pts)
2 - James Asbury - NCS Infiltration Viper (5 pts)
3 - Xtopher Brick - Skeleviper (4 pts)
4 - Mihe Stonee - Vic Viper (Blacktron-Style) (3 pts)
5 - Paul Vermeesch Greeblevic (2 pts)

Honourable mentions:

6 - Mark Stafford - Viper: Teal Killer (1 pts)
7 - Master Shifu Leo J - DTP Penetrator (1pts)
8 - Marcus Paul - Vic Viper "Stingray" (1 pts)
9 - Tim C - VICtory Viper (1 pts)
10 - Gorn Veynom - TriViper TRB-01 (1 pts)

Id also like to note that Paula G and JWG 258 missed out on an honourable mention by the smallest of margins.

It was a lot of fun looking at all of these. It really was quite crowded at the top end of my spreadsheet.

It wasn't really our plan to make a contest. The idea didn't come up until November 10th. Then we decided to vote on all Vipers added during the month.

You can always add Vic Vipers to this group. They just won't count as entries for NnoVVember. Now you'll have to wait 11 months for that ;-)) My VV Batmobile had to wait more than 10 months from the first idea until NnoVVember, too ;-))

Ok then... I'll keep my usually chatter to a minimum and get straight to my results. What could possibly go wrong?

1st(6pts): VICtory Viper, by Tim C.
Lots of Classic Spacey colors, angles, and neato pictures in space. With free lasers!
2nd(5pts): GAIA AT Viper, by Jon B.
Plenty of orange and NPU. Where all the basketball nets came from we may never know.
3rd(4pts): VV Blacktron Style, Mike Stonee.
Most builders prefer to stay on the square grid set forth in studs-up building. Not Mike. And just look at the result!
4th(3pts): Skeleviper, by XtopherBrick
Quite an original idea, and to great affect.
5th(2pts): Vultranic Viper, by Mark Stafford
A nice VV with many angles and edges. And really big guns.
6th-10th(1pt): Hyper Viper, by Angka Utama
A spiffy little VV, with orange and chrome and such a cool stand.
UCS Tie Viper, by AC Pin
Really cool idea, and plenty of telephones.
Vic Viper Alpha, by f-22 raptor
Ooooo... aaaaah....
ST-010 Vic Viper "Stalion", by CEP Camargo
Blue and dark blue? A+
NCS Infiltration Viper, by James Asbury
Nearly missing the vertical fin, but quite a cool spaceship with tons of greeblies and some NPU. And a giant logo.

And a special mention to Alex B's Vic Dodge Viper. Because we all wanted to and he did.

Well then... that wasn't too bad. Hopefully I didn't misspell anything or get any VV's mixed up in my head. I guess maybe judging wasn't so bad after al-*bears invade*.

OK, our moderators have been fast, so now it's time for me to post my votes:

1st (6 pts) GAIA-AT Viper by Jon B
Great design, cool colour scheme and awesome parts usage (basketball hoops!).

2nd (5 pts) DTP Penetrator by Master Shifu Leo J
Unique monochrome and organic design ("Giger style") and excellent parts usage.

3rd (4 pts) Greeblevic by Paul Vermeesch
Greebles, greebles and more greebles plus a cool overall shape.

4th (3 pts) Tri Viper TRB-01 by Gorn Veynom
Smooth and edgy design at the same time plus a cool red/black colour scheme.

5th (2 pts) Naboo Star Viper by AC Pin
A cool Star Wars design converted into a Vic Viper.

And these five models have earned the additional point:

Blue Dragon by Freeling ++
Very cool design with a tiny little tail fin and a cool blue colour scheme

Vic Viper (Blacktron Style) by Mihee Stonee
A great design with a cool central structure combined with the classic Blacktron colour scheme.

The Wave by Larry Pan
Great design with very clever parts usage everywhere on the model.

Skeleviper by Xtopher Brick
A great hollow basic structure with a really cool shape.

Viper: Teal Killer by Mark Stafford
A unique colour scheme and great parts usage plus cool basic design

The decision was very hard, there were so many cool Vic Vipers. Additionally I'd like to mention: Vic Viper 'Stingray' by Marcus Paul (cool asymmetric design, great parts usage), The Bayou Bat by Topsy Creatori (great parts usage: Zodiacs), HeaVVy Metal Viper by JWG 258 (great design: 2 guitars and a skull), Tiny VVipers by Eric Landreneau (great usage of the rocket part for wings and tail), the Cyber Agent Vipers by andros tempest (Vic Viper Transformers!) and Hyper Viper by Angka Utama (great display stand with an VV shadow shape).

Some builders could easily be in my Top 10 with more than one model, especially Jon B and AC Pin. But rules are rules...

Well, Ive done my voting. This is the order I finally came up with.

1 - Jon B: GAIA - Training Viper (6 pts) the use of the 2 xpods, combined with the split colours and perfect shaping of the rear made this an instant winner.
2 - James Asbury - NCS Infiltration Viper (5 pts) I'm not going to shy away from my CS bias, but then again even if this wasn't CS the shape and subtle pushing of the core VV elements would have put it near the top of the list.
3 - Xtopher Brick - Skeleviper (4 pts) the great shaping and skeleton concept put this high on th innovation list, whilst still being a clear vv.
4 - Mihe Stonee - Vic Viper (Blacktron-Style) (3 pts) the sheer technical skill of those angles got my vote, it looks pretty neat too.
5 - Paul Vermeesch Greeblevic (2 pts) the greeble pushed to the limit, and the red wrap around the arm pushed this into the top 5

Honourable mentions:

6 - Mark Stafford - Viper: Teal Killer (1 pts) the example of a great design and sweet colour scheme adding up to more than its parts.
7 - Master Shifu Leo J - DTP Penetrator (1pts) the very best of the micro scale vvs with exceptional piece usage.
8 - Marcus Paul - Vic Viper "Stingray" (1 pts) the asymmetric design elements and pragmatic feel made this one stand out to me.
9 - Tim C - VICtory Viper (1 pts) the archetypical vv, strong design and building throughout, in my top 10 because this seems to be how a vv should be.
10 - Gorn Veynom - TriViper TRB-01 (1 pts) the sharp design and use of pattern makes this one edge ahead of the competition.

Id also like to note that Paula G and JWG 258 missed out on an honourable mention by the smallest of margins.

It was a lot of fun looking at all of these. It really was quite crowded at the top end of my spreadsheet.
