I'm really exited for this! You've done a wonderful job keeping the rules relatively simple, but precise and useful. I hope and predict this will be a great contest. Oh, and your dad sounds awsome. Tell him thanks for me.

Intresting. But I may not be able to participate. There's the Gear up contest, the Periodic Table contest, and then this. The rules DO seem really agreeable though, as there's 12 chances.

Precisely. If you're committed to other builds at a given moment, you can sit out a round or two and still have a chance at the yearlong prize. If you miss a lot of rounds, you can still use this site to fill in the gaps by trying to make an awesome build that month. I see the yearlong contest as icing on the cake, and also a good way to compare yourself to other builders in general. The heart of the group is being able to have regular challenges to our building skills (i.e. the Monthly Challenge Builds)

It will begin May 1st. We have until then to assemble our Society. Others can join at a later date but May 1st also marks the start of the Cumulative Leader Board, so those joining later will be at a slight disadvantage for the Points Board and ultimately the prizes. So who's in?

NATHAN: I may have joined only to let you know I'd be unable to participate (Sorry - I didn't know how else to drop you a line, m8). First of all, I'M HONORED you'd invite me. I love your work, and I WHOLE-HEARTEDLY ENDORSE the soul of what you're doing here with the purpose of this group! I cannot stress this enough. My simple problem is: I'm a manager at my IRL business, and I only get to MOC when God sends me a few spare minutes. =) This would mean I'd NEVER make Challenge deadlines. You may have noticed how much time passes between my builds - essentially I want them to be good works, and not feel rushed. This is essentially why you've never seen me participate in MOC-OFFs or MOCathalons: all contests have Deadlines. And I'd blow it on every one. XD So... I dunno how I can help, but wanted to honor your Invitation with a proper response. If time were more free - I'd LOVE to do these Challenges, being able to complete at least a MOC-a-month, but I seriously doubt I could commit to any other schedule than my (very broken) one. Cheers m8, and GREATEST hopes that this BioMOC group takes off like a rocket, allowing our Peers to truly inspire one another to greater levels within our Art. Always a fan, Nate. =)

HOOO boy, this looks like the coolest group! Can't wait! One problem: Popularity domination will still occur (unfortunately), meaning people like callan and cossy may win a lot if they participate regularly (though with that thought, I don't think we have to look out for cossy :P) Anyway, I've actually been thinking to myself that there needs to be some overarching community with regular challenges to get points to see how everybody ranks, but honestly I don't have the time or finesse that you do to pull it off, and I tip my hat to you and your dad (awesome dad by the way, I don't think my dad's even touched a lego!) for administrating this group! Hopefully I do well, because those gift cards look preeeeety good!

I see what you mean about "reputation votes", but that's out of anyone's control now isn't it? I hope this group will provide chances for people to improve their reputations through their skill and effort. And the anonymous "Peer Voting" process should give people the freedom to endorse whatever MOCs they truly like- reputations aside. That's what we're going for anyways. Thanks for your enthusiasm!

Awesome. Glad you like it. Yes, the community aspect should be fun by creating some friendly competition and feedback. Besides, we should be looking at each others' MOCs more because we have to vote right? This might refresh our inspiration to build. Here's hoping, anyway. Thanks for being enthused.

I know what you mean! I want to get building now! Oh well, this will give the group some time to assemble itself. If you know of serious Bio-MOCers that aren't in the group, find a way to suggest they join, however that works. We have invited many great builders that we're aware of. Some have joined and some we're waiting on. We have been getting steady requests to join, so we must be doing something right :P

Hey, I really appreciate the invite. It looks like a lot of work has gone into this and I applaud the effort. Unfortunately I won't be able to compete any time soon. I'm way to busy at the moment :( I'll check in whenever I get the chance and if I find the time I'll give the current month's contest a look at and see if I can compete.

It's just really good to see that communities like this can still be built. I was getting the feeling MOCpages was starting to go quite, which would have been a real shame. Congrats again on building such a neat contest.

Best of luck to you, you father and all who choose to compete.

Good to hear from you Kai, and hopefully we'll get to see some of your work one of these months if your schedule allows or if the challenge build is too enticing for you to resist ;> Thanks for stopping in!

A good question came up on the advertisement thread so I thought I would add it to this conversation-

Quoting Strakk The Glatorian: Cute minis, but dont you think you should postpone the contest until after the bio-cup?

Good Question. I'm a big fan of the Bio-Cup (obviously). However, because this group is ongoing, there might be a conflict with one thing or another whenever we launched it so we decided to launch the "Society" and see what happens. The BCBS could really fill in the gaps throughout the year, and also give those who get eliminated something to do. I'll probably do both, but if it came right down to it, I could skip a month of the BCBS for the Bio-Cup and still have a chance at the yearlong glory. The fact is that these are both great inspirations to build, and that is always a good thing in my world. Cheers!

This is an experiment that we are fully committed to for this year. At that point we'll evaluate, tweak the rules if needed, and run for another year provided interest is strong and we can manage it. If we can't manage it we'll pass it on to another steward. But c'mon, we've only been on the pages for 24 hours or so. Let's not worry so much about the future. Let's have some fun with this now. :)

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: We will use the results of the Brainstorming Thread to VOTE on our first ever "Challenge Build". In other words, I will post a list of ideas generated on that thread, and everyone can vote for their top 5. I want everybody to vote by email (in order to get the hang of it) and I will post the winning idea on the 1st of May when we start the first contest. SO, you have a week to add ideas to that list (21st), another week to vote (28th) and we'll get the first "Challenge Build" going on the first. Cheers!!

Well, the votes for our first challenge build have been rolling in. There's no runaway winner so far, and there are a lot of people left who need to vote. Is there any legit way to remind members to vote besides thread announcements (like this)?? I am opposed of leaving reminder comments on their MOCs, but I do want everyone to have their say. I'm open to suggestions. BTW, I'm considering doing another advert MOC before the contest starts in (gulp) LESS THAN A WEEK!! WooHoo!

I was posting it last night at 11:00, I had to edit the photos to make them a bit clearer. Parental Intervention was the thing that prevented me from posting. I doubt that any of you have to mess around with that. I had the pictures uploaded. I also did not join in the middle of the contest. I joined before it started and used as much time as I could. I needed 10 minuets more. That is how close I was to posting it.

More or less what happens with last minute posting. Always leave yourself at least two days prior to deadline in case something majorly screwy happens. Last minute builds only work if you can use all that time remaining effectively. Rules are there, no exceptions.

End of the day, if you find this to be a regular occurrence, build early or don't build. There is no Tridax. :P

I Am! Me and my Dad are coming with an 18 foot long 3D Bionicle diorama to display about 50 MOCs. It will have a volcano, glaciers and rock formations for one gigantic epic battle scene. No joke.

Yay, shared 3rd place!

Well, I might not be able to participate for a while now. Although summer holiday is coming, my computer broke it's hardrive and we need to buy a whole new computer. That may take a while, so...

I guess I'll have a few mocs to post when I get a new comp ^_^'

Happy competition for the next rounds =]

That's not how it works. We get fresh challenges every month and build new MOCs to compete for rankings and eventually prizes. Only contest entries are posted in the group. Read the rules on the front page and you'll get a good idea of how it works.

A tablescrap is the LEGO equivalent of a doodle, or sketch.

Oh, I see. Does it have to be a particular before it's consider a tablescrap moc?

Would it be alright if I posted my entry to this months round tomorrow from my phone? Both my computers are having serious issues at the moment and are getting fixed soon but not soon enough...
