CHALLENGE BUILD #1: "Useless" Parts MOC - May 2012
 Group admin
The People Have Spoken!! Our first challenge build will be a "Useless" Parts MOC.

Let me expand the definition of "Useless" to include "unusual" parts and "Difficult to work with" parts. In essence, here is a chance to impress your peers by making great use of those difficult or uncommon pieces to make a MOC. This creation could be a Toa, Matoran, Titan, Rahi, Vehicle, Whatever... The point is to make effective use of difficult parts to make an impressive MOC.

By the way, this is how the voting went.
1. Useless Parts Build
2. She-Toa
3. Family or Friend MOC
4. Insane Asylum MOC
5. Assymetrical
6. Demon
7. Ninja + Combiner
9. Mythlogical
10. Vehicle

Feel free to talk about the challenge on this thread. I won't be the "final word" on what is a "useless" or "difficult" part. It's up to you all to determine that.

You did? <looks back> You did suggest using the rubber band holders, but I believe that I initially suggested it. Either way, best of luck with your builders block. Basing a creation around what a strange piece looks like to you may be the way to go with this one.

This is a Paradox. In lego, there is no "useless part" It would either be broken or non-existant. Therefor I am thinking of creating a non-existant build. Instant win.....Or I could just build. Anything.

You're right, in a sense. If you use a "useless" part, it becomes useful. Whoa, heavy... :P

Your next idea, making a non-existent MOC might not get too many votes, but you could try it.

Otherwise, you could try to look for the parts you usually have a tough time incorporating into a MOC and incorporate them.

Or...since we're all voting on each others' MOCs, I could just say...impress us! Cheers!

What if you looked for your "dustiest" parts, so to speak, to form a MOC around? You know , the ones you usually skip over when building. Use some of those in a MOC and see what you come up with.

Cansisters would be good canidates for the "Useless" part. The older ones had connection points, so you could use them, and the older ones have ultimate useless points since they have not standard connections. If you get creative, though, anything can be integrated into a creation.

Man, I really want to see someone use a HF baggie.

Out of curiosity, whould a HF baggie have to be unopened in order to comply with the "No cut/painted/modified parts" rule?

Seems a little quiet. How are the MOCs coming along? I think I have my entry done. Still have to photograph him. It ended up being a fun challenge with out-of-the-ordinary results. Can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with! I also have another mini backlog of MOCs I have to get posted. I enjoy the building part more than the posting part but, oh well, it's fun to finally post when the photos are done. Still ten days to go! Maybe we need another K.S.T. thread. Hmmmmm

If there is a piece that is useful, but only for one specific use, could we use it in a different way(s) and count it as a 'useless part'?

No, not really. Read the stuff on the main page and you'll see that the BCBS is a contest group where a specific challenge is presented every month and all who wish to can compete in that challenge. New month, new challenge. Members voted on the first challenge and it ended up being the "Useless Parts Build Challenge" that you can read about in the threads. Still time to enter. Deadline is the end of May 14th. Good Luck!

No worries Magic...we live to clarify rules ;-} As for the question about the list, it works a little different. The winner of this month's contest gets to decide what the next month's challenge will be. It doesn't get announced until the 1st. So, everybody gets two weeks to build and post. That's just how we set it up. Hope this will work for you. Cheers!

Hello Society! This is a good question. Each monthly contest can only have ONE entry because of the yearly points challenge. Having multiple MOCs would blow up the points race. HOWEVER, I am brewing up an idea to fill up the time between the 14th deadline and the beginning of the next challenge build, so don't ditch your extra MOCs just yet...More on this on Tuesday. ALL that said, PLEASE ONLY ENTER ONE MOC in each contest. If you want, you can swap out MOCs by removing them from the main page and entry thread, and replacing it with the new one, as long as it's done before the 14th deadline. Hope this makes sense!
