Here is an excellent method: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/107492
If you don't have the parts, exo-force joints work well, too.

I have exo-force joints, but my brother took most of them to make wings for his spaceship.Hes five, and wont give them back.I like to front of the joints on the mech you showed me.I was also searching on google, and got few ideas for joint shields. You ever took about titan chicken in ww2?

Try a technic style sub frame, get the shape you want, and then wrap it in standard bricks. You can achieve great strength this way, and also make it articulate if you want. It is a great method for huge mechs, but it will work for smaller ones too.
Ill probalby try making bigger mechs, and thanks for idea.

I have a C.W. coming soon! Hopefully with the next 10 days.

Can't wait to see it! I have a vastly improved variant of the Castigator mech waiting to be posted...
