Build A turret for the Demeter NOW!
 Group admin
EXCOM SENDS:

Due to tactical developments in orbit, we will need a light manned turret to cover our exit from the Neugarten gravity well. It will be deactivated by the gunner, who will re-enter Demeter via EVA, and the turret will be jettisoned just before you enter hyperspace. But it WILL BE NEEDED to leave this planet.

THIS IS A GO / NO GO REQUIERMENT. If it does not get built, the DEMETER WILL NOT ESCAPE NEUGARTEN.
SPECs:
Minifig scale machine.
SIZE: un-restricted.
MUST INCLUDE 4 autocannon gun barrels.
MUST INCLUDE 4 missles (small short range).
MUST INCLUDE 1 gunner in space suit, at gunners station within turret (inclosed, BUT SHOWN IN PHOTOS).

HINT: This is a LIGHT TURRET. Not a battleship turret.

HINT: You will all die if this does not get built.

DEADLINE: NOON 30 JUNE.

This is the LAST building challenge of Operation Exodus!
I would wish you luck Demeter, but the decision to survive is yours to make! No dice required!
Think, build, and live!

Ensign Nihlus,

Time is short, and talk is cheap. Read the SPECs. Re-Read the SPECs. Get this MOC right! To much is riding on this to stumble.

Check the DEADLINE on the challenge, take a deep breath, and save your shipmates lives.

Simple as that Ensign.

To sacrifice your spot on the ship you built is a decision that you will be remembered and respected for. Perhaps, somehow, you will survive, but if you don't your sacrifice won't be in vain. Fare well.

Ensign MOCist,

Good. That is the intent.

Now build a turret to punish any unlucky Users who happen to spot us.

Attack!

Crew,

The billets for the "Three Kings" have been opened and filled.

Nobody else needs to stay on this heck-hole of a planet.

What we need is turrets!

Key builders are reporting that they are not able to contribute right now.

Ensigns Netro and Pauper are both in sic bay, and the Dr. has no good news for me.

Swinngton, this is your only chance to contribute. If you don't build a turret, your staying on Neugarten and a decidedly unpleasant fate.

Shock this crew and submit a turret MOC. You were the last walk in. It would be quite a hat trick if you pulled it off.

Decide to live, build a turret, and then pack your bag, because you will be taking a little trip.

Live!

We have one turret, and it does not meet SPECs.

In 15 hours we need an enclosed turret or you are all going to die in orbit.

Build it and post it. The one we have is not to SPECs.

It is not enclosed.

It will not do.

Post your turret, save the Demeter.

If you don't post a turret in the next 15 hours, it won't "Matter" to anybody.

This operation will fail and we will all feed the Users.

I hope Spaceman Adams is still in the game, since our sentinal Pauper's bowels have betrayed him to ruinous effect.

Build the turret, protect the Demeter! I shall stay behind and allow one of the unclean creatures to hijack my salvation.

Congratulations in advance to the Spaceman who delivers us in this challenge, be he veteran or rookie. You have my eternal thanks...what good a shipwright if his ship is destroyed by a "harvester fleet". I always thought of harvesting as a more personal matter.

DEMETER WILL LAUNCH!

I go now...to the unholy embrace of Neugarten's atmosphere, wish me well. Perhaps this won't be the end.

"But yet we see around us every day the growth of new beliefs, which think themselves new; and which are yet but the old, which pretend to be young. . . ."

Of course im still in the game. :)

The final building challenge is complete.

Our last challenge forces me to compromise my form a little, but I don't think the vengeful gods of Neugarten will take offence.

The turret design provided by Ensign Adams is the best. Point blank. Best looking guns. Best distrobution of the guns and missles.

So, yes, Ensign Adams, you win the turret challange.

HOWEVAH...

The crew roster will name LukeClarenceVan as the Master Gunner. Because Ensign Adams didn't name his gunner!

I know, I know, it's not a SPEC. But I am not going to stick "No-name Billy" on the the crew roster.

Just to be clear, Adams wins the challenge, but LukeClarenceVan is a cooler Master Gunner. Bam. There it is.

About the other turrets:
1. Ensign J offered us our first design yesterday, right after he announced that he would be giving up his seat on Demeter for one of The Three Kings. Classy gesture if you ask my opinion. It was pretty quick, and frankly, a little beneath his normal "Zero Defects" standard. It had a roll cage but it was not what I would call "Enclosed". It would not have saved the ship if it had been the only design submitted. My big fear was that all the other builders would see it and think: "Ah, J saved us. Now I can relax and go back to watching Sponge Bob". Happily, I was wrong on that count!

The next design was put up by Ensign Adams. Large, gray, and mean looking. I really liked the robust and well mounted guns, tight enclosure, and over all shape. It looked quite formidable. The only feature I wasn't thrilled about was the large glass portal on the front. But it WAS SPEC strong, so I had to go with it. Big guns and 4 obvious missiles. It would have save the ship if it had been the only entry. Bam.

Ensign Caledonia’s turret was also a good solid design. It looked modular, and this was in keeping with the description. He used the slanted dome window mount from one of the underwater themes. Not often used, but he acquitted the part quite well in his turret. Four guns, and a tight simple pod with the four missiles. SPEC strong, but not a "mean looking" as Adams design. It would have save the ship if it had been the only entry though.

Ensign Ravenchist gave us the Star Wars flash back turret. I dig it. Black, with thick armor and a small window for the beady eyed gunner to peer out through. While the turret was SPEC strong, I feel the gun mounts and missiles were hasty in their design. Yes, haste is good. It results in timely completion, but the gun mounts for Adams turret just looked cooler to me (and he had the same amount of time). But this turret came with an extra feature: A gunner with a decent name. He looked mean. Classic MARDET material. I thought "That’s it. This dude HAS to be the Master Gunner". So he is. This turret would have saved the Demeter if it had been the only turret posted. Bam.

Ensign MOCist was the last to post. 4 minutes before the DEADLINE. Nice flare for the dramatic I suppose. It's a SPEC NO GO. It's not even close to being enclosed. It would not have saved the Demeter if it had been the only turret posted. It does have flick missiles however, and in some quarters, this playability feature is highly valued. I also found the guns to be a bit rushed. Still, he posted, where most of you did not.

Also for the record, in order to maximize the odds of successfully penetrating the User blockade, the AI has stated that the three SPEC strong turrets will ALL be mounted on the exterior of the Demeter.

Ensigns Adams, Revanchist, and Calidonia have all contributed to your odds of survival.

Well done. The installation is already under way under the watchful eye of the AI.

Go brush your teeth and grab your bags.

i have finished making a turret and will try to post it tonight.

Survivor Swinington regains consciousness slowly. The last thing he remembers was working on his proposed design for the Demeter’s light turret. This design was to be his ticket off of this dying world.

So much had happened so quickly. He had only arrived at this settlement a few hours earlier. They had literally welded the doors shut behind him.

They had slapped him on the back and said: 1 minute later and you would be banging on the door brother!

Then he learned that he had one and only one chance to earn a seat on the Demeter. He had only to post a design for a light turret before Noon on 30 June 2012.

All he really heard was 30 June 2012. He hadn't heard the "noon" part.
He was still working on the design 7.5 hours after the deadline when a siren sounded and the booming voice of Demeter’s AI echoed through the halls of this concrete and steel warren: "LAUNCH LAUNCH LAUNCH".

He sprang out from behind his make shift desk and ran for the door. As his had closed around the knob, the door burst off its hinges, knocking him to the ground. A wave of hot dry air filled the room in an instant, and he thought that he would be incinerated. The last thing he saw was the room’s single light fixture exploding. He slipped into the darkness, a stone statue plunging to the bottom of the sea.

He awoke, not sure how much time had passed. Minor burns covered his face and arms. There was no light, and he could not tell if he was blind or not. But his eyes burned fiercely.

After hours of digging, he was rewarded with a shaft of defuse light. An hour later, he climbed out of the rubble choked hallway and into a shallow crater that was only barely recognizable as the bay that had held the Demeter the day before.

He coughed. A slight tickle forming in the back of his thought.

He staggered into the open space, across the shattered floor, past gaping black holes in the concrete. A thick vapor, carrying the smell of hot death slowly wafted out of these shadowy pits. Twisted rebar lined the edges, all bending down, like boney fingers showing him the way.

The Demeter was gone.

He coughed again. It seemed he could not quite clear his thought. His head was aching and he was very thirsty.

Something stirred deep down in the shadows and vapor of the pit next to him. Unseen but audible.

Swinington’s turret design blew across the empty bay floor. A leaf in the wind…

Dude... I really wished you had read your "Invite" messages.
Barlow is sleeping like a vampire… Like you could have been!

Now a greasy pan that smells like bacon is all that is left to mark your passing some ware out on the war blasted surface of Neugarten!

Check this link!

I had you on the “Invited List” for a day, like Aaron and Bowman. But you never showed. You should have gotten three email from reviews on your MOCs saying: “Read your invites, and go to The Vault!”
As per the narrative, I canceled your invite after the launch and put the former EXCOM (My character) into the tube instead.

I'm sorry man, but in keeping with the story, I really had to seal the vault to keep the Users from finding us right?
You know, they say eating all the bacon will kill you! I guess they were right!
