2WC 13: Under the Sea
Join to comment
What's really down there, floating around in the deep: a submarine, a shipwreck, the lost city of Atlantis? Build a scene showing something from under the sea (not a boat).

Fine print:
Entries must be posted in this thread and in the group by 11:59 PM MOCpages time on Friday, August 9th, with judging to commence the following day. The judges for this contest will be myself, as well as any admins who wish to participate. All MOCs need to have a working link to the Contest Group.

Criteria: Total of 25 points.

Originality: (10 points) Does the build show a new and unusual concept? Is the overall build good-looking? Is it easily identifiable as being under the ocean?

Techniques: (10 points) Does the build have any special building techniques- greebles, SNOT, nice parts usage? Are there any interesting details in it? Do the shape and colors seem cohesive?

Presentation: (5 points) Are the pictures in focus? Is the description well-written and without errors? Do the links all work?

Good luck to everyone!

Alright! Sorry about my MOCPages...What exactly is the right word? Basically, sorry about not being on the pages in a while... Time to get building!!

I've started my entry. Hopefully I can do better than I did last time that we had a similar theme!

I'm trying to come up with a good and unoriginal theme, it's so hard to. I've come up with a few. My last two entries had very unoriginal themes that really detracted my score.

If I get around to it, I'd like to participate. If I don't, I could help judge, but only if I don't have an entry.

So you're finally competing against me...? Not that this has never happened before, but at least now it can be more fair because that time my build score was pretty close to yours...

So if you lost points for unoriginal themes, why are you trying to make another unoriginal theme? :P
Oh, how I love typos.

I hate typos too. I keep getting unoriginal and original mixed up. Anyway I think I came up with a pretty good theme. I built most of the build last night. I'm going to finish today, hopefully.

I've finished the tan/dark tan bits of the landscaping. My build's 32x32, so smaller than my most recent MOC, but it will still take me a while to finish. I'm trying to avoid too much empty space, I lost a lot of points (I got 13/25) for build last time this theme came up, so I'm trying to avoid losing those points again...

Mine is 16 x 26, so it's smaller than yours. I'm trying to come up with good coral techniques. I think I have made one nobody has done before.

I've finished building, and I have taken the pictures. I needed to get this in so that I could make room for other contests. I really need to manage my time wisely...However I am going to post tomorrow since my brothers and sisters are watching a movie in the internet, thus making it nearly impossible to upload quickly.

Just looked at the judging rubric again, originality seems to be worth too many points :/ I typically prefer to judge mostly on build and detail, and not decide winners based on who had the more creative idea...

When I was thinking up the rubric, I was thinking that that category would be about the general impression of the build, while Techniques would be about the detail and the quality of the building. You're right, though- I probably should make the rules clearer.

That's probably fine, as long as the main part is the underwater bit. Stephen Boe did something like that.

Yeah, I'm judging. I have a very original idea, but no motive to build. I don't even have the motive to take a set apart and rebuild it! I haven't even been busy, I'm just in a mood or something. Sorry Halhi, maybe some other time.

Alrighty then. I typically like building something small first when I haven't built anything in a while, since it's easy to finish and gets you accustomed to building again.

Here's the list of scores so far to tide you over until MCLegoboy judges:

Stephen: 22
Halhi: 21
Sean: 18
Erik: 15
Pikminfreak: 14
Falcon: 12

So aside from Erik, the earlier you posted (so far) the higher the score you got.

Alright, all entries have been judged!

In 3rd:
37/50 to Sean B for "Sleeping with the Fishes"

In 2nd:
41/50 to Halhi 141 for "An Undersea World"

And in 1st:
43/50 to Stephen Boe for "Underwater City"

As you can see, we had some close top scores.

Congratulations to you Stephen. You will be made moderator and you get to chose a theme or combination of themes from our Contest Ideas 2 page. You'll also get to judge that theme, too.

Well, there is no ending time, just so long as it's up as soon as they can so we can keep things moving. You don't have to be ready today, but tomorrow should be the latest becuase we don't want anyone to lose interest.
