Benefits of Custom hands

I notice that a lot of use a lot of custom made hands for their custom MOCs. Since I want to experiment with custom MOCs, what are the benefits of those over say, glatorian fists or the Nuva hands?

There are more possibilities, you can add some greebles and make the moc look more interesting. And it just looks cool
