Judging issues
 Group admin
Hey guys,

If we have any issues that need to be discussed about players or entries we can do it here.

So... first issue has already presented itself (they're getting off to an early start this year).

http://www.mocpages.com/group_conversation.php?id=21512&topicid=84726&message=comment_posted

Colin Small made some changes to his post after he added it to the group. This is a rules violation and per the rules it states that this "may" result in a DQ.

My vote is to let it slide on one simple reason. He came to us and TOLD us that he made the changes. If he hadn't told us, I don't think any of us would have caught it. Also, the changes were within the wording of the post, not the build. Honesty is a BIG part of who I am so his admitting to his rules violation holds a lot of weight with me.

My vote is to let it go on as an entry.

Majority rules here so please, your votes count.

Thoughts?

Also, (sorry I know all this convo is clogging up your results page, which I know we should all keep ours clean so it's easier to count-feel free to delete)
do we need a page where we can highlight potential bad entries/mistakes/errors in entries? There's already a questionmark over the SECOND(!!!) entry. "BobaFett 2" may have built his for something else he admits. Should we just score accordingly if we see stuff like this?

Just made a thread for this ShannO haha Great minds and all I guess...

Ok, I'll look into this issue as well and cast my vote accordingly here.

Ok, on the BF2 issue...

EDIT:
WAAAAAIT a second... he didn't join the group until after the categories were released which means that as long as he built it AFTER he signed up (and the categories had been given) then he's within the rules.

It was a poor choice of words on his part since most people signed up LONG before the categories were announced but I do remember him signing up late.

Ok, my vote is that it's a legal entry and I will score it accordingly.

Agreed. He was honest about it, and it wasn't a big deal anyway.

Also, if you get pulled over by Chris, be honest about how fast you were going, maybe you'll get out of a ticket. ;)

Agreed. I think that if he changed the build in some way it would have been a different story (read: DQ) but with only some text changed... yeah, it's alright.

Hey guys. Not sure if this haas been mentioned already (I can't see that it has yet)

Check out "Lego Builders": they've posted two entries to Round 1 already. They're two borthers "sharing" an account, which in my book is cheating...or just plain dumb.

I say we delete the second entry and just judge the first? Whaddya guys think?

I think we've been over this already, and we decided that we would allow it. If they got separate accounts, it wouldn't prevent them from collaborating, so sharing an account doesn't do any harm, as long as they're clear who built which entry.

I guess that's ok, as long as they're scored completely separately, otherwise they'll double up on points under the one account. It might cause problems down the line maybe? Why should we, the judges, have to keep dividing this account into two people for them? Any mouth-breather can create his own account separate from his older brother. It all seems a little bit underhanded to me...

Yeah, we actually went over this issue with them pretty much when the group first opened.

Our final thing was as long as they made it perfectly clear which of them was posting then it would be fine.

Like Cody said, it's not like we can go into their house and make sure that Senior isn't building for Junior or anything like that.

I think there's some stuff in one of the other threads here about it and there's also some stuff in the question thread about it addressing them.

My personal opinion is that this isn't going to be an issue. If there's any problems that pop up as a direct result of this, then we can deal with it accordingly but in the mean time... I think it'll be ok.

If there's other issues that we haven't discussed about it then by all means, let's have a pow wow about it and figure it out.

Hey all,

There's an entry by a guy named Finn Tegotash (or something like that) that had to have his account approved so you guys couldn't see the entry. I've approved his account and his post was added to the group in between Tim Dillman and Lego Junkie.

You guys wouldn't have been able to see the entry and now it's buried on like... page 3 or something. Just letting you guys know that you're not going crazy, it's always been there, just invisible to all but the staff.

Thanks!

Is anyone going to be awake at midnight (mocpages time) Tuesday night to lock the group? I know I'll be asleep since I have to get up at 4AM to go to work and could lock the group when I get to work in the morning (leaving some people a little bit of leeway time to add to the group) but if someone's up and can lock it... ?

According to this comment 4:01 PM mocpages time is equal to 22:15 Belgian time
I just don't know the AM / PM thing right now :S
something latin...wait am and pm is a difference of 12 hours so...
22:15 + 7:59 = 7:14 if this makes sense I can't close the group, sorry

Thanks for the Finn Tegotash post--will look at it tonight.

I might be able to lock the group being here in Oz. I've run out of time here at work to check but that should be in daylight hours for me. Will let you know soon.

PS: Man the entries are POURING in now...can't keep up, lmao!

Yeah, thanks for the heads up on the Flynn post. I've got that one taken care of now.

As for locking the group, I can probably manage that if no one else can. Shouldn't be too much trouble.

Also, Ian Spacek changed some of the wording in his post after posting it to the group. It was really minor stuff so I'm inclined to let it slide, yes?

Yeap, we've been allowing minor text changes with other players so to keep things fair, if all he changed was some minor text then it's fine. Again though, we have to stay vigilant on if anyone tries to change pics. We stated in the group (when addressing the text changing issue) that minor text change was allowed for now but any changes to pics or build is an immediate DQ/0 points.

As long as we stick with that standard we should be ok.

Should we crack down on that in later rounds? It's not a big deal, but if the competitors start to take a mile from the inch we've given them, there might be some issues. What do you guys think?

I did state in my response to Ian that this kind of thing will not be allowed in round 2. We (the judges) have always been a little forgiving in past olympic's first rounds to let everyone get their feet wet so to speak.

I'll be sure to make a BIG note of it in the write up for round two about "no more changes EVER." And if someone (goofs) up... too bad.

Even with regard to an unintentional copyright infringement that you were specifically asked to change like in Ian's case? How legalistic will we get with that rule in round 2?

If you mean how strict are we going to be with the "Once you post it, it's OURS" rule in round two then... we're going to be as strict as we can.

Obviously we'll need proof (ie: One of us having seen the moc before and after the change) that a moc has been changed but if it happens... well...

A time zone converter says tuesday midnight equals 2pm on wednesday afternoon for me. I'll be at work but I finish at 4pm so I could lock it straight after work (2 hours grace)?

Nope. Please leave the images alone. Any altering of images will be grounds for an immediate 0-pt/DQ.

even if the opening is only one and all i did was color the sky? around the creation?

I'd say let it slide, it sounds like he hasn't changed the moc itself. It's small enough to go almost unnoticed.

Sweet!

K everyone, can we please have your final scores list posted by Friday (USA) so that I can spend Saturday tallying up the scores and seeding the players. I'll do my best to get a final list up by Saturday afternoon so you guys can approve it and I can post it Sunday morning for the players.

Then... (the fun never ends around here) we can divy up the scores to post on everyone's mocs. Should be easy... 150 divided by 6 is 25 each so it shouldn't be that difficult.

Thanks for all your help guys and just remember, it only gets easier from here... (he said hopefully...)

So Adam L's entry http://mocpages.com/moc.php/343122 is missing the names in the title. I'm assuming we're letting him go on anyways considering his opponent dropped out, but I just wanted to wait for the green light from you, Chris, as far as the technical stuff goes. We've been pretty liberal with slight errors this round, haven't we?
