Round 4 Matchups

 Group admin
Welcome to round four of the 2012 MocOlympics! Below you will find your matchups with your opponent and your category.

Dates and Times:
Round two starts NOW and will end at 11:59 pm, MOCpages time Sunday, November 4th. No entries will be accepted after this time. If you do not have your entry posted AND added to the group by the deadline, you will forfeit your match and your opponent will advance.

Title:
Your entry must be titled: MocOlympics (may be shortened to MO) round 4 "you" vs "Your opponent." You may title it anything you wish after that but that must be the opening of the title.

Category description:
Near the TOP of the entry you must state what category you are playing in. Feel free to simply copy and paste your category from this thread or type in the title of the category, your choice.

Links:
Preferably near the top of your post, you MUST have a WORKING link to your opponent’s page. If you post first then linking to their homepage is fine. If you post second, please link to their entry. You do not HAVE to change the link to their entry after they post (if you post first) but you are welcome to change it after they post if you'd like. This is the ONLY change that may be made after adding an entry to the group. You do NOT have to have a working link back to the main MocOlympics group. You’re free to add it if you wish but it is NOT required.

You must add your entry to the group pool. Once you add it to the group, that's it, it's OURS and NO changes may be made. If you make a change and we find out about it, you will be disqualified and your opponent will advance to the next round. We STRONGLY suggest that you get feedback from others and make any needed changes BEFORE adding it to the group. The judges will NOT look at it until it's added to the group.

Once you and your opponent have posted and added your entries to the group, the judges will vote on the mocs. There will be three judges for each matchup (divided by the brackets). You must receive 2 out of 3 votes to advance to the next round. The judges are NOT required to write full, detailed comments with their votes (but may if they choose to). The only thing required by a judge is which moc he’s voting for. Each judge’s decision is final.

Your judges are:
Brackets One and Two: Chris Phipson, Paul Vermeesch and Sebeus I.

Brackets Three and Four: Shannon Ocean, Chris Roach and Cody G.

Without further ado… welcome to round 4 and good luck!

Bracket 1

Stormbringer vs LWC guy
Famous landmarks: The Taj Mahal, The Eiffle Tower, Big Ben, The Great Pyramid of Giza. Pick a famous landmark and show us your version of it. Microscale or minifig scale, it's up to you!

Gio vs Tom Remy
A pirate's life for me: Build a scene showing pirates doing what pirates do. Are they having a swash buckling battle with another vessel on the high seas? Drunken nights at the port town? Ransacking a small coastal village? Show us your best pirate scene!

Bracket 2

Mark Erickson vs Max Pointer
Go to H. E. Double hockey sticks: Build us what you imagine the underworld would look like. You may choose from any reference material you wish but give us your version of (a) dark lord's realm.

David A Smith vs Stuart Delahay
The Grey’s research project: Ok, so there’s plenty of UFO talk out there about aliens studying us right? Well… what do they think of us? Your job is to provide us with a brief documentary type moc detailing what the Grey’s (or any other alien species) think about Earth and the strange talking monkeys that live there. Think… nature documentary on the discovery channel detailing the daily lives of termites or something along those lines but from the alien’s point of view.

Bracket 3

Nick Barret vs George G.
A Bug's Life: show us life from the perspective of an insect like a fly or ant: giant blades of grass and stones or indoor stuff like food scraps n the kitchen. What would these look like to an tiny creature?

Tyler H. vs Sir Blamorgineas
Sherlock Holmes: Everyone's favorite consulting detective got a Legoification in the
Minifigure Series 5. Build a scene featuring the famous intellectual. You needn't use the series minifig, and your version of Holmes might be inspired by Doyle's stories, Basil Rathbone, Benedict Cumberbatch, or by Robert Downey Jr. Does he solve the case? You do not need to build an entire mystery/story, a simple vig or dio will do.

Bracket 4

Thoy Bradley vs Legopard
Water Park: Build us a fun time water park complete with things like slides, a wave pool, a lazy river... slides! (does not HAVE to include all of these. They're just suggestions of things in a waterpark). What would your "epic" water park look like? Minifig scale would be preferable but micro/midi scale is acceptable.

Heath Flor vs Ian Spacek
Mosaics: We’re going to leave this one open a bit. We want you to “paint” an ORIGINAL piece of art using Lego. 2D only please.

Good luck everyone!

Okay, this foresight thing is getting a little creepy. I seriously wondered at one point if we'd get to build mosaics...freaky!

Though I'm excited to take a stab at building a mosaic, I'm just as new to this as you! I dare say it will be a close match on that account.

Well, Stormbringer! My MocAthalon team mate of yesteryear, good luck to you! Not that you need it :P I've got a few ideas whirling around in my head, nothing to go by yet though :) It's times like this that I wish I had more tan bricks.

I'm reading that as a joke... correct? Because you know that each category was placed in the brackets LONG before we had any idea who the players were going to be... heck, even before we knew who was playing. Where each category ended up was decided before the end of round one (prelims). And then, each person's score dictated where they would be placed in round two on the brackets.

I'm pretty sure you knew this but I was also taking this opportunity to let everyone else know who didn't realize that we're not choosing the categories as each round progresses, they're already chosen, locked in and done.

I have an important announcement to make:

I will not be continuing my entry for the MocOlympics and will be dropping out for reasons because of the freak storm that has just hit. Many trees were brought down by the storm in my neighborhood, and I simply cannot afford to continue further with this contest while my house and others are flooded. It's kind of ironic how something like this has happened to me before during last year's MocO... Maybe it's a sign?

Anyway, LWC Guy completely deserves on moving on forward, as this has been a very fun and enjoyable contest thanks to our judges who made this possible. The MocOlympics is not just about trying to be the best builder but it's also about having good endurance, and having fun too.

I will be retiring from Lego for a good while, as well as recovering. To everyone else good luck to you all with the MocOlympics!

It is a deceptively tricky task this one. My first build went straight down a rabbit hole and had to be aborted. I started work on its replacement last night, and things seem to be going better now. I suspect I'm going to be down to the wire time wise on this build. Good luck to both of us.

Good luck to you too! I had an abortive couple of nights in my last round - My Casper the ghost got built first in a more 2D manner but i didn't like it so it went. Some great advice from two of my LUG-mates, Dave Kaleta and Dave Sterling, was to not be afraid of re-builds if you see a better way to do something and the time spent is often worth it. I take it on board as I often try to build quick for a 10 day time limit so the temptation is there to build something then leave it alone so you can get on with the rest.

And if anyone should be giving advice i'll take it from the winners of the 2nd and 3rd MOColympics!

Shame to see Stormbringer is out; I had hoped to see him move on :(

I hope the judges won't mind, but here's an update from Bergen County, NJ:
NJ (and the Northeast in general) is in a horrible mess right now. Power lines and trees are down everywhere, and many people are sitting in their cold homes trying to survive. Gas, emergency supplies, and food are in very short supply everywhere, and some sections are being patrolled by National Guard troops. Thankfully, my neighborhood just regained power after 4 days, which is a blessing considering my 2-month old nephew was getting sick. They say more and more power is being restored day by day, so that is also good news. Please say a prayer for those who are still without power, and please say a prayer for all the government officials trying to restore power to everyone. God bless!

I also wanted to say thanks to the judges, and give a nod of recognition to all three of my opponents. Stu you go on and make sure a Brit gets to the final now! And in general, to say what a great community MOC pages is. I've hung around on several forums to do with other subjects in the past, and most are riddled with idiots and trolls. MOC pages is a breath of fresh air, genuine people, a real sense of community, and very little in the way of stupid behaviour. Cheers everyone I know on here - blub...
