Categories:

Toa Jaton versus Callan, Lord of Fire
Blackblast ? verus The Millennium Warrior
Will “Club” R versus Potu, The Half Toa
Chronos Omega versus Tor WWL

“Fictional Hero”
Take a preexisting fictional hero from any sort of literature, movie, etc, and use it as a template for your opponent’s self-moc. This means you should pick somebody who represents, or has similar colors to, or is otherwise similar to your opponent’s self-moc.

Note: Any hero you choose must either be terrestrial or human; they must either be a Homo Sapien, or be born on Earth. For example, you may not choose superman, but you may choose Han Solo. (He’s human, right?)

Toa Era versus Jacobi, Guardian of Water
Coconut Fanatic versus Timothy Domingo
Toa Infernum versus Mudslide
Toa Phosphorus versus Monarth GS

“Fictional Villain”
See above.

Note: See above note.

Overlord Galaxus versus Banjax2077
Ziontryo Metalhead versus Dragonax lord of all things black and creepy
Everox, Toa of Plasma versus Legendary green fya
Gale Winthrope versus Liam Moloney

“Food!”
Make your opponent’s self-moc as some food. This can represent a raw food, like a banana, or a prepared food, such as cake. Your choice.

Puff The Magic Thunderbird versus Dylan Mievis
Kraata Face versus Toa Likus
Ro Garcia versus RICtendo (Hungry)
Makuta Nazo versus Chris Pole

“Stereotypical Occupation”
Make your opponent’s self-moc as a stereotypical human occupation. This can be things like lawyer, construction worker, scientist. They should not be obscure or specific. For example, you can choose ‘WWII pilot’, but not ‘x-wing pilot’, as they should be the stereotypical representation of that job.

The scores are in, the random numbers have picked the pairings and categories, and it's time to compete! You have 10 days to build and post. That means that entries must be submitted before 12:00 AM on February 15th EST.

Good luck!

So a quickie question: Am I building the fictional villain or the selfmoc as the fictional villain? (Villain/selfmoc fusion?)

And I'm against Phos already? The difficulty level just skyrocketed.

I think that blacksmith is an acceptable entry, because it's well known, not overly specific, and has a well-defined stereotypical image.

You're building the self-moc as a fictional villain. It's sort of like a fusion I suppose, but in the end, all that matters is that you've represented both your opponent, and the character you've chosen.

And yeah, the random numbers dealt some interesting pairings, I'm looking forward to seeing your battle with Phos, along with a few other matches!

You'll be scored by points the same as everyone else. For any matchup where both participants posted their entries, whichever of the two has the higher score continues on to round 2. But your specific score has no exact one to compare it to, so instead it'll be compared to every score overall. If I get a 60, Tor (my opponent) gets a 70, and you get 75, you and Tor would go on, but I wouldn't.
Likewise, if there are any matchups in which neither contestant puts forth an entry, both are out.
I think that was all correct, though I'm not sure if the rules have changed since last year.

So wait, I have to beat Everyone!? That seems a little lopsided...Unless I'm wrong, which I hope I am.

Ooohhh. No, no, sorry. I explained that poorly. You will be scored alongside everyone else, yes. What will probably happen is, like in the entry round, a score cutoff point. Let's pretend that his is the entry block:
Toa Era 71 pts. vs. Jacobi 0 pts.
Chro 65 pts. vs. TorWWL 73 pts.
Noodles 75 pts. vs. Banjax 71 pts.
Let's assume the cutoff is 70. In this scenario, you, Noodles, and Tor would go to round 2. Even though Banjax scored over 70, his opponent had a higher score. And even with no single MOC to compare to, you'd pass with a score over 70.
Does that make sense?

(That example is not how I think the scores will go, it was just random.)

If you can whip up something that's not bad by the due date, you could try to get enough points to beat the average, which would get you to the next round. That is, if Monarth doesn't post.
I hope you do get something finished. You may be able to adapt parts from the failed moc for the new moc.
Good luck!

Apparently the view when midnight is (either the morning or the evening) differs a lot among the people here. May I suggest that you will from now on use the time 11:59pm of the deadline day? It will save the contestants a lot of trouble and is the obvious reason why most contest have it that way.

* cracks knuckles *

Quoting Steve The Squid You have 10 days to build and post. That means that entries must be submitted before 12:00 AM on February 15th EST.
Frankly, this is extremely clear about the deadline. Grayson doesn't usually plan ahead or run groups well, but this time he was very direct about when the entries had to be in by! Today is the 15th. 12:00 AM was the exact start of the day, meaning that anything before that- basically, any time yesterday- was your last opportunity to post an entry. Now I know that circumstances sometimes get in the way, but for most of you, my advice is DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO POST. And even more so, make extra sure to read the freakin' guidelines. Please.
Since there was a mass failure to understand the deadline, I guess it can go one of two ways. Either Grayson sticks to his guns and doesn't count any entries posted today, or he allows today's posts to count as well.
Not sure what else to say about this.

Learning experience? Well. I know full well what I'm doing, thank you very much. Judges and mods? Judges haven't done #### and I'm the only mod. This contest is simple, and it was a simple understanding that caused all of this (in fact, so simple that I'm not sure how people messed it up). Ben please calm down, not everyone has the same level of understanding as others. simple misunderstanding, yes. Hornets nest, no. More like subtle and unthreatening lack of sense.

Little tip for those who move on to the next round (though I shouldn't have to say this) pay attention to what the judges, admins, and chronos say from now on. And I believe grayson should backup his earlier stated rules due to the fact that rules are rules and if they can't be followed then that's a problem.

Yes I do go both ways on this dispute but more towards this point^ and if you're wondering yes I'm on the local debate team.

You're totally correct. Not everyone has the same level of understanding as others. But I'm pretty sure that people should know that midnight is the start of the day and any point before that is part of the previous day. Hornet's nest is not a term I'd use to describe this, unless the hornets have just been woken up in the middle of the winter and are all sleepy and confused. (Easier to swat 'em that way.) :P

Actually, Mills, you were definitely late. Midnight is the start of the day, meaning the start of the 15th. The entries had to be posted before that point, meaning that they had to be posted on the 14th. Your entry was posted on the 15th and is therefore late.

OK one that, and you may not realize this but, that would shave off a minute of precious time. Two seeings how we've been over all this already people should understand it now. Third the misunderstanding was caused by people clearly not knowing what time a day truly begins. Fourth its the time chosen by the admins and unless they do something absolutely severe, never question an admin. Finally why should we change it when every thing I just said is true? The answer we shouldn't.

Um, I just meant that for the next round, instead of stating the deadline as it did this round. We state it so as to avoid the confusion from this round. And although people should realize it by now, never underestimate a human's ability to misunderstand something (take it from someone who has experience in misunderstandings). Although, as you stated, it is all up to the admins.
