Just a quick refresher first. Your team has until March 30th to build as many of the categories as you can. No entries after the 30th will be accepted.
You MUST include near the TOP (remember, active links will NOT work in the "introduction" section. Place it near the top of the main box) of your post what TEAM you are on AND what CATEGORY you are posting in. You MUST also include a WORKING link to the main MocAthalon group.
You MUST add your creation to this group AND your team's private group. Once the moc is added to the group it's OURS and will be judged as is. No changes may be made after it is added to the group.
Any moc not meeting this criteria will not be judged.
Each moc MUST be a COMPLETELY NEW BUILD! No reusing old mocs in ANY way.
There are no size restrictions unless otherwise stipulated in the description.
Other than that... I think you all know what to do. As usual, if you have any questions or need clarification please ask them in the question thread. Good luck!
Your categories are:
1. Alternate Mode of Transport.
We have all seen trains, bikes, cars, boats and planes! What mode of transport haven't we seen? Does it use cosmic power? Does it relocate you along radio waves? Show us your idea for a mode of transport. It must include a minifig but the build can be set in any time period.
2. It creepses and crawlses.
Choose any type of creepy crawly (insect/spider/centipede) and build it out of bricks! The more colourful and detailed it is, the better! You can build it a backdrop if you like but this one will be all about the bug.
3. Alien Landscape.
Is it barren? Are the rivers green, gold or pink? Do the trees grow upside down? Do the Aliens walk around like they are constantly doing the limbo? These are all ideas. Build us your version of an alien landscape. This one is all about beauty 'outside the box'.
4. Fail like a BOSS!
We have all seen it, people trying to do crazy things that would look totally awesome - and then CRASH, BANG, SMASH! What a failure! Build us a 16x16 vignette showing an epic fail. YouTube is great inspiration for this! To cater for viewers' sensitivity, minifigures are not allowed to be shown as dead in this category.
5. What a girl wants?
This is one for all those macho guys. Build us a scene, larger than minifig scale, showing off a girl's favourite styling accessories. Details are paramount!
6. It's-a me, Mario!
Build any character from any video game you choose. Will you make Mario or Bowser, Master Chief or the Arbiter, Link or Ganondorf? Build at any scale you choose, and keep in mind details, expressions, and pose. A link to a reference image/screenshot is required as not all judges are gamers themselves.
7. Rube Goldberg machine.
Create a working contraption overcomplicating a simple task. Think of Rube Goldberg's crazy contraptions, the game Mouse Trap, or the Lego Great Ball Contraption. Show a video of your contraption working.
8. Redesign a Classic Lego Set.
Choose any Lego set released in the year 2003 or earlier and redesign it. Add more details, change the minifigures, smooth it out more, do what you want to make it your own! On your entry page, provide the set number and name of the set you redesigned. If you need help finding a Lego set to remake or set name/number, the center column titled "Sets released in…" sorts Lego sets by year released: http://brickset.com/browse/
9. Not-so-lame excuse!
Why were you late to class or work today? Create a scene, minimum 16x16 studs, showing a situation that caused you to be so late! The more ridiculous and creative the excuse, the better!
10. Black and White.
Create a moc that uses two and only two different Lego colors. To clarify, red & dark red, red & pink, red & trans red, and old gray & bluish gray, for example, all count as two different colors. If they're not exactly the same, they're different colors.
You've been assigned to illustrate one of your favorite books, show us in the brick one of the illustrations. This should not be based on an existing picture, but your own interpretation of a scene. The more of an artistic flair you give your build, the higher your score will be.
12. No Gravity.
Show us a scene in which the laws of gravity are null.
13. The Band.
Portray your MocAthalon team as the next big thing in the music world. Will they be spiky haired punk rockers? A college acappella quintet? Make sure to build a scene for them; just figures won't do.
14. Totally historically accurate.
Show us how you think your history text books could be more awesome. What do you mean Alexander the Great wasn't a cyborg?
15. Brick Noir.
Foggy streets and mysterious figures, trench coats and fedoras, and cigarette smoke that seems to have a life of its own. Build a scene based on the dark crime films from the 1940's.
16. 16 or fewer parts.
A lot can be expressed with just a few pieces. Create a moc that uses 16 or fewer pieces! Include a picture of the pieces you used. Show your NPU!
17. In the Inn.
Build an inn set in a medieval fantasy world. Think "Prancing Pony." This can be just an interior, or you can build the whole thing.
18. The Walking Dead.
Zombies are coming! Show us how you will prepare to defend yourself from the oncoming hordes.
19. An elegant moc for a more civilized age.
Replicate any science-fiction object or device from a favorite movie, video game, or other media in life-size scale. Attention to detail matters here!
20. Once Upon a Time.
Fairy tales are quite trendy these days in popular entertainment, from prime time television to the big screen. Give us your take on a classic tale.
21. Will It Float?
Several years ago, Dave Kaleta challenged his students to build floating creations. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/195480
Now, the challenge is passed on to you. Build the biggest and/or best looking floating creation you can manage. You must provide a picture of the object maintaining position above the water line, aka floating.
22. Parody This!
Imitate a form of pop culture past or present(music, film, literature, art) and give it your own twist.
Design a pair of wickedly cool bookends. Show them off holding up your library of Barbie Fairy Princess books, or whatever you read.
24. Lookin' good!
Build yourself some new Lego wear! Create Lego articles of clothing, accessories, or jewelry that is wearable.
25. Just teach it!
Pick a subject matter, and break it down in Lego form. Explain mitosis, trigonometry, or the the theory of relativity, for example. You can use humor or shoot straight, just make sure you got the facts right!
26. Larry, Curly and Me
Ouch! Give us your best slapstick comedy routine.
2012 MocAthalon throwback categories!
27. The Ides of March.
Great men, falls by treason and conspiracy! Tell us a story of assassination, treason and crime...
28. St. Patrick’s Day.
Build a wicked cool St. Patrick’s Day MOC. Anything you wish, but the theme must be St. Patrick’s Day. 16x16 or smaller.
29. Tropical Paradise.
It's cold outside, as Old Man Winter takes his toll on everywhere we all dream of warmer places. Build a tropical paradise you'd rather be vacationing at. Will it be a tourist hot spot or a deserted island? It's up to you, with no size restrictions, and as always the more detailed and creative you are....the bigger the points! Bring some beauty and warmth to those of us who are shoveling snow!
30. Ghost Hunters.
Build a MOC based on Ghost Hunting. This can be something like the Ghost Hunter’s show on SYFY, or Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel. (Google them if you do not know what those are about). The focus must be on ghosts. No vampires, werewolves, etc.
Quoting Primus Maximus
Also, if we have a MOC for a category posted...must it be entirely different?
Quoting Chris Phipson in the Rules thread, "Every creation must be a new and unique build. No recycling of older creations to make a new MOC look better. You may duplicate use of a plain, single colored, flat wall to use as a background for clean picture taking purposes ONLY if you wish."
If the judges can see you are recycling, you are putting yourself in danger of a DQ. Permalink
