Quick question about 16 or fewer parts. Do you only get to use 16 pieces total, or just use of 16 parts with no limit on how many of each piece?

16 total pieces. If you used two of the same piece it counts as two pieces.

What about minifig arms and hands? If they were to stay in the minifig would they count as one piece?

For category 9, it's a minimum of 16x16 studs? I've never seen a minimum size before, so I thought it best to check.

Also about 16 or fewer parts: Do the parts count as LEGO counts them or how from how much part it really exists, e.g. would a hinge piece count as one or as two? A minifig torso as one or as 5?

If a piece like a minifig torso, legs, or hinge comes in a set preassembled it counts as one piece. But if you break it down into its components, they count as how many individual pieces you use.

Exception to these "preassembled" rules would be containers like x-pods and Star Wars planet sets, which count as 3 and 2 pieces respectively.

Yellowed white bricks would be white. But due to this possible confusion I'd avoid yellowed bricks for that category.

You could also clean your yellowed bricks. Google cleaning yellowed Lego

I have a question about category 6: It's-a me, Mario! I have been working on a mosaic with Pac-man, a ghost, cherries and some other stuff, but I just re-read the categories and I'm not sure it qualifies. Does this count for this category? Because by itself, the Pac-man is not good enough for the whole category. In this case would the judges judge the whole mosaic? Or should I make something else?

Would you not reconcider that? Let's say if I'd redesign this set

http://www.bricklink.com/SL/6073-1.jpg?0

And my main issue with it is that it is impossible for a castle to be that small. Then I can not make a more detailed version of this castle, that has the exact same shape but is like twice as high and twice as broad?

And another question, let's say for a 'diorama' how many pictures do you need of a moc. I take it it's clear that a scene is 1 picture, and the 16piece one is as well. But is there a picture restriction on for example the Inn category?

There are no picture restrictions on any of the categories.

I could make a castle that small and make it more detailed. The set you choose to recreate is how you limit yourself. There are many many possibilities with that set.

When I say 'similar scale' I do not mean an identical size either, I mean it simply has to be of a similar size, could be slightly bigger or smaller. But if you redesigned that castle into a huge Eggy Pop castle, we would not see the resemblance.

I think if you used red bricks and trans clear, and used a yellow light to shine through the trans clear, this would be fine. However, if you wanted red bricks, trans clear, yellow light and red light, this would be a DQ. I think keep it simple and make sure your whole build is illuminated with the same colour light.

This category is all about showing off the effects of positives and negatives. Light in itself will not help you get a better score unless it is pulled off super well.

Edit: By super well I mean, with the skill that Mr Xenomurphy has shown in his recent Harry Potter MOC - The Hall of Prophecy.

Choose any Lego set released in the year 2003 or earlier and redesign it. Add more details, change the minifigures, smooth it out more, do what you want to make it your own! On your entry page, provide the set number and name of the set you redesigned. If you need help finding a Lego set to remake or set name/number, the center column titled "Sets released inů" sorts Lego sets by year released: http://brickset.com/browse/

I personally love twists on categories, but my thoughts on this one is that's going too far from the original intent. The idea of the category is to challenge you to think outside an Earth landscape and craft something distinctly alien. Find some inspiration in weird parts and colors, build a story around a strange place, and take us to a new world!

This is not a bad question, but I want to point you in the right direction. Focus on the landscape. If it is alien, and good, and alien, a mech might not be a bad idea. If you want us to judge a mech, you might want to consider a different category.

Well, it has some very interesting landscaping, but it's all grey/dark grey w/ fire in the background with a mech standing in the middle. Would that work?

I don't get number 24, looking good. Doesn't exactly make much sense, just practically use your sigfig, give it a new style, and just pretty much put him on a red carpet? There wasn't much detail on the category.

I'm pretty sure the creation is supposed to be real life - or almost - sized.

You build clothing or accessories that you yourself can wear, not your minifigure.

Honestly, it would depend on how good the landscape is. If the mech is supposed to be something alien as well, then I guess I would judge it as I have with other aliens or creatures on the landscape. So make sure to tie it somehow to the landscape, in your scene and in your write-up.

Of course, use any old NPUs or new NPUs you want! Just don't make it an exact copy of your previous moc; that wouldn't be allowed.

#23: Bookends
Let's say one wanted to make very extravagant, detailed and expensive identical bookends. But because of the extravagance, one did not have the time nor money to make two of them. Since the bookends were to be identical, could one only make a single bookend, and photoshop the other one in on the other side of some books?

For the one where we redesign the old styled set, can we do a similar build with a modernized color choice (like the new bricks), or are we only allowed to use similar bricks and make it bigger?

Being as these are two seperate questions...

1: Some categories call specifically for multiple mocs while others are for a single build. Each category will have a specific answer.

2: We would prefer an already existing piece of tech please.

There will always be some portion of the build in the water but remember, the main focus of this category is to make something FLOAT. So if the main portion of your build is not floating on the water then there may be a problem...

Kinda confused by what you mean, but the category is asking for a replication of an object from a science fiction franchise, not something you made up. You can add pictures of whatever else you want, but it won't add to (and may detract from) your score.

If the printed pattern and base part were only the two colours chosen, would that be acceptable? For example using Yellow hazard line tiles if the entire MOC was Yellow and Black.

Just be careful to only use two colors as that is the base subject of the category.

As long as it hasn't been added to THIS group, you're free to do whatever you'd like with it. In fact, we HIGHLY encourage adding creations to your own team's group to get feedback before adding it here so any needed changes can be made at that time.
