Universal Challenge: Tomeu's Defeat
 Group admin
It's here! The next Universal Challenge has arrived! You have until (and including) the 10th of August to post your entries in this group (please post a link to your entry in this thread as well). Have fun building!

Background setting/story:
Carthal - Mythron citizens spotted some Enalica ships heading toward Tomeu. They reported their findings to the leader in Carthage. The leader send some soldiers on boats to Tomeu.

Guaire - Spys returned from the Hearfire inn and reported the Oultaws' plan to attack Tomeu after stealing the diamonds from Guaire. They wanted another chance to capture some outlaws and affirm their power against Mythron, so King Bartok decided to go to Tomeu with many soldiers and station them near the Mountains of Kord until the Outlaws attack Tomeu. They plan to ambush any who try to leave the city (preferably Outlaws and Mythronians). To keep their good terms with Enalica, King Bartok sent messengers to them at Worsan and told them about the opportunity to catch some of the loot from the attack of the Outlaws on Tomeu.

Mountains of Kord - The outlaws are ready. They already have outlaws set inside the city to attack. Once they get near enough to the city, they will blow the horn to signal the attack. The horn will let those inside the city know that it is their time to move into action. They march up to the city in several companies (the rest split up and encircled the city in hiding....waiting for the horn to blow).
They sounded the horn!

Present story:
The city of Tomeu is being attacked from all sides and within the city itself! The Outlaws planned for just themselves to attack, but somehow Rainos and Enalica found out about it. Outlaws are everywhere, Rainosians are attacking Mythronian soldiers and capturing people trying to escape by the Mountains of Kord, and Enalica pirates are at the shore and in their sea vessels doing the same as the Rainosians! Chaos runs wild! Those loyal to Mythron must flee the city, dodging arrows and lines of soldiers. Once the city is abandoned, some of the outlaws will take their newly founded group, Nerogue, and establish themselves in Tomeu.

BUILDING CHALLENGE! This challenge grants you 5 points and the winner of the challenge (judging method to-be-decided) will receive 10 points.

Outlaws: Full fledged attack! You've been waiting for your moment to rebel against Mythron after they teamed up with Rainos to capture people like yourself. You also know of the great reward that will come once the city falls into your hands - honor and fear upon your enemies (not to mention some spoil from the city). Attack from any side of the city, climbing the walls, facing Mythronian Soldiers anywhere. You can also attack from within the city - go after those who resist the attack, don't waste time with those who are defenseless. Show us your skill at fighting. We need epic action from your character. Don't forget to pick up some nice things before you leave. Stay clear of the Rainosians and Pirates! They want nothing more than to capture you and take away you from your livelihood and whatever you have on hand.

Enalica (Pirates): Don't let any ships get away! Since people are leaving the city, you may find some loot! Go hide and attack those who try to get away on boats, or stay in your ships and bombar other ships that try to leave. Remember, bring back some treasure!

Rainos: You heard of the attack of Tomeu by the spy from the Hearfire inn, and you don't want to miss the action. Head behind the city and capture some more Outlaws and keep Mythron soldiers from escaping to the Mountains or Kord. Show Mythron that you not only rebelled, but you affirmed your power by attacking one of Mythron's cities. Don't actually attack the city itself, you capture those who try to escape.

Mythron: Some citizens from Carthal spotted some Enalica pirate ships that were headed toward Tomeu. You went to see what was going on. When you arrive, your city, Tomeu, is under attack by the outlaws! A barrier of Rainosians and Pirates guard ways of escape from the city! Rainosians are attacking from the Mountains of Kord, and the Pirates are at the sea, both waiting for anyone trying to escape! Show your character escaping from city of Tomeu. Will you face the soldiers of Rainos? Or will you try to out-smart the pirates? Show us your character's boldness as he escapes from his enemies.

Nerogue: If you were planning on joining Nerogue, now is the time! Perform the challenge of your current faction as described above, but also show in your MOC that you join those who stay to establish Nerogue in Tomeu after Tomeu is overthrown.
Example: You are an outlaw, you will attack the city full force as described. Then you will stay behind and watch your fellow outlaws leave to go back to their normal lives as outlaws. You remain in the city of Tomeu, ready to defend it at all costs. You are now a Nerogueian.

Judging: The entries will be judged (in the staff group, not on your creations) out of 10 with the following criteria:

3 points on Presentation (clear photos, text follows picture, the way the story (if any) is presented and easy to follow, etc)

1 point granted for faction style/accurateness. (Can we tell that you are in Mythron? Can we find the different factions presented in your MOC?)

6 points on the build itself: Techniques, creativity, what the build looks like, things that make a MOC great!

EDIT: Here is the reason why Tomeu is falling: In order for Nerogue to enter in as another faction, it would need cities. Tomeu was so far out of the way so we decided that it would be the best place for Nerogue to enter. Then we decided for the outlaws to attack Tomeu, then have people stay behind, build the city back, and start their own lives since Tomeu is hardly connected to the rest of Mythron - it was kinda doing its own thing anyway.

There are more challenges to enter when you reach certain point levels, like founding a guild or taking a promotion in your faction. If you can build five free builds in a month, it should be easy to reach these.

It is currently a Mythronian city. However, it is being conquered and turned over to Nerogue.

If I decide to be part of Nerogue, do I have to make another character intro, and will I lose all my current points?

So, what kind of architectural styles would Tomeu exhibit? European Castle? Some Greco-Roman styled buildings? (Need to know before I can start building.)

Pretty much anything goes. We are currently not rigid about how cities should definitely look. You could draw inspiration from anywhere. I guess the main thing is that it looks nice and clean and it is sturdy.

It's not the preferred method, but okay. The important thing is not to confuse the scorekeeper, who has to keep track of faction points as well as individual scores.

Alright, I can finally get to work today. A few questions to ask about the situation (The answer can be Yes, No, or Use your imagination.)

#1 Does Tomeu have a moat, or can it be on an elevated level? I'm thinking of a bridge.

#2 Have Tomeu's enemies been bombarding it with siege weapons?

#1 It doesn't officially have a moat, but you can do whatever :) Maybe later in the game we will get more strict about that sort of thing, but maybe not. Whatever you want for this challenge is fine :)

#2 Um...depending on the type of siege weapons...I mean...in the MOC I just posted about it, the walls were obviously bombarded with some sort of weapon because the walls broke in certain sections. Just as long as they aren't flaming balls of fire or anything. Think medieval times.

I hope that helps! :D

For this challenge, you'd have to follow the guidelines of the challenge in order for it to count for the 5 points. If you are somewhere else during this challenge, you can show that, but it would be counted as a free build.

The scores are in! We had a great turnout this time - 14 entries! Thanks to all who participated! Congratulations to David with the winning score! He receives 5 extra points on his entry.

David: 48.5
DTFNJ: 88% - 44
Garrett A: 40.5
Andrew the Jedi Ninja: 38
Shawn Gibson: 37.5
Night Reaper: 35.5
Stephen Boe: 35.5
Brick Boy: 68% - 34
Chris: 33.5
Rogue Spartan: 32.5
Jay Jenkins: 32
Gilbert Despathens: 51% - 25.5
Thatch Gears: 24.5
Ian: 23.5

If you are wondering about the percentages, it's because an admin who entered cannot judge his own creation. So we take a percentage and then convert it to a score relative to the rest of the entries. In this case, there were 5 judges (highest possible score of 50). For Gilbert, Brick Boy, and myself, there were only 4 judges (highest possible score of 40). So we took the percentage based off of the 40, and then took that percentage and found the score as if there were 5 judges. Taking Gilbert as an example, he scored a 6, 4.5, 5, and 5. That totals 20.5 with a percentage (off of 40) of 51%. Then we take the 51% (0.51) and multiply it by 50 and get 25.5 as his final score.
