As for religion, there seem to be no widespread religions. Aside from isolated pagan belief systems, the issue has been widely avoided by general consensus (see the Survey Thread).

Here's a Question: How are the monthly contest entries usually graded? I mean, it is always scored out of ten points, but on what, and how many points for each of those requirements?

Actually... Go to the faction thread for whatever faction your location is in. If that thread has a description for the city, then it's a good idea to follow that description to keep things continuous. If there isn't a description already, then you can use complete creative licence ;)

It depends on the judge. As far as I know, stories, photography, and relation to the challenge prompt count for around half the score, and building skill counts for the rest, but there aren't any rules for the division of scores. Just do the best job you can and hope for the best!

Here's a Question: How are the monthly contest entries usually graded? I mean, it is always scored out of ten points, but on what, and how many points for each of those requirements?

Sometimes we don't set universal standards, but this is a fairly typical breakdown:

Quality of the build: 5 points. This includes technique usage and aesthetics, but size is not graded.

Story/Plot: 0-2 points depending on who sets up the system. This includes grammar and conventions as well as how interesting or understandable the MOC's text is (Brick Boy also docks points for abnormally lengthy stories).

Presentation: 0-2 points depending on who sets up the system. This includes photo quality, usage of backgrounds, possibly photo-editing and anything else that aids/hinders the appearance of the page. Poster-board is an excellent investment.

Originality/Other/Judges' Choice: 0-3 points depending on who sets up the system. Originality can apply to anything that does not come up on the average MOCpage, and sometimes the judges are left a few points to assign based on their own desires.

Challenge/Universe Fit: 0-2 points depending on who sets up the system. If you don't explain how your entry fits the challenge, you will lose points. The same goes for following the LOM guidelines: Don't add talking sheep, don't use gunpowder, don't kill an off-limits character, don't pretend that your character can singlehandedly throw the entire world out of balance, don't put dirty hovels made of sticks in the middle of a civilized area and so on. Sometimes this is included in the "Story/Plot" section.

Hey guys! Two things...

1) you know how we have to either have a lot of flesh or yellow colour end faces to make builds universal and it can get rather annoying at times? Why don't we make it that the flesh-colored people have distant relations to some extinct form of elf? It could really help when you have a certain limit to your mini fig heads.

2) I intend to make a different character for myself, one less pretentious. Do I make a new character intro or just class it as a free build?

I doubt some humans would like to have all come from a form of elf.

You would title it as an intro, but you wouldn't get 5 points for making it - it would only count as 2 points. (otherwise we would just have a lot of people building "intros" of numerous characters for loads of points.

You should have had a better choice of words then. Maybe a Crossbow, that can fire three shots at a time, or even a crossbow that can fire at a decent speed. But not anything like, 60 shots a second. That's a no.

Normal crossbows don't take as long as six seconds to load so 10 per minute won't work. Or you could just have a Troytanion Blackbolt crossbow, it's bolts can penetrate almost any armor.

Right. That's a normal crossbow for the period, I believe. Even the very best medieval armor (as far as we know of) was only tested to withstand two crossbow bolts, and THAT was rare. By the way, from the looks of them, your Troytonians don't have the most advanced armor to begin with. As for the speed, one of the fastest (and therefore least-powerful) hand crossbows could fire eight times a minute. The Mythbusters' rapid-fire heavy crossbow, a two-person, cart-mounted machine based on ancient Greek design, matched a longbow in fire rate and distance as well as accuracy.

I was looking over my MOCs the other days and these are a couple denominations I think I had in mind (before I forgot them):
Bull Clan (Northwest Rainos):
Golds and irons - simple coins made of a set mass of each metal. Since Lord Cedric envisions an industrial society (Saruman style), he based the currency off of the driving component of industry: iron.

Elsewhere:
Crowns and boots, with a few more in-between such as mantles, belts and garters. I was in a jesting mood when I wrote that MOC, I think...

Not anywhere on the map. As for Nerogue, no - only Nerogueians can make up towns. There are pre-existing locations for the towns, and the first Nerogueian to build there claims the town and quite possibly gets to name it as well.

It's different for each faction. Rainos and Enalica allows them to be built anywhere on unclaimed lands OR faction owned land.

You can't make a town that will be posted on the map, but you can make up a town in Nerogue.

That is fine, I just wanted to visit a Nerogue town, and wondered if I could put it on the map.

How about this: Enalicans can build on Rainosian land and Rainosians can build on Enalican land? After all, we already share one island.

I suppose it would be okay IF the city then belonged to the faction who owns the land. I mean, we can't have exactly have Rainosian cities on Enalican land :P

Hi guys, I'm in need of good building parts for my dioramas, what sets would you suggest?

Generally, I would tell people to choose something detailed like the Medieval Market Village, the Kingdoms Joust, or another highly-detailed set. Bricklink is also a good source for parts because you can pick and choose which ones you want, but it takes a little time to work out the system.

However, since you don't have many staple castle parts like grey bricks or standard soldiers, I recommend this year's King's Castle if you can get it. It looks like a good starter pack for the Castle theme, with green, grey and brown plates; light grey bricks, tan masonry bricks and wood bricks; windows and angle bricks; and the minifigures that seem to be standard for Mythron and Rainos around here.

On the other (and final) hand, you might ask Toa Infernum or someone else who recently picked up Castle building. Whatever they're doing seems to work well for them, and I'm sure they would be glad to share their secrets.

I don't think so. I personally don't think the King's Castle is all that great, due to the excess of large wall pieces...

Helms Deep and Castle Cavalry (Lego movie set) are both good and could probably be found for decent prices.

I know someone who has Helms Deep, and it does look like a good grey parts pack with a bonus of angled plates for round building. It lacks certain fine details like ornate stonework, unfortunately. I read a review of the Castle Cavalry last night and it did look like an improvement on the Gatehouse Raid, but it relies heavily on those two tower elements.

I did read the Eurobricks one because Brickset only had one review ready, and I did find that I prefer Brickset's reviewers. Either way, I don't think I would buy that set when there are bulk bricks to be had.

I personally prefer Eurobricks reviews, I think Brickset often basically ignores the set and only really cares about the minifigures. Then there's TBB, which is good but I don't like the video reviews; The Brick Blogger, which is also great but doesn't use any of their own pictures, which I really dislike; fbtb, which has no sense of humor whatsoever (complaining about the William Shakespeare fig's printed tile "To build or not to build"...); and BZPower, which is my favorite but mainly focuses on HF sets.

I suppose, but I think the King's castle is way too reliant on wall elements.
I don't really see any problem with Helm's Deep, IMO it's the most detailed castle set yet, plus it has lots of sand green...
Castle Cavalry seems to be pretty nice and piece-intensive, which is a good sign of a good/complex build.
Gatehouse Raid isn't too bad either, the figs are nice and it has some nice basic/masonry bricks. Plus I got an extra padlock :D

Mythronian: Easily recognized as the Lands most powerful, civilized, proudest and glorified people who owe undying loyalty to Throne. They almost entirely live on the continent and kingdom/empire of Mythron, which since diminished in size, hugs the continents west-coast.

Troytanion: The Troytanions of today are descended from deserters of an ancient and powerful Empire beyond the knowledge of Mythron. They are mostly civilized, wealthy and intelligent people, excellent sailors and disciplined warriors. They have lost most of their pride, glory and grandeur but this does not stop them from hanging on to old traditions. They are found in many ancient port-cities that were established by their old empire, their "capital" or primary dwelling is in the old city of Hadran but have many nobles making a living in cities like Worsan, Pescado, Meids and even Orfdor.

Nerogueian: The people of Nerogue, although not as proud or civilized as those of Mythron more than anything stand for justice as strongly as the walls of Reedus defy invasion.

Mythron is the most civilized of the factions, so the other countries primarily use coins from Mythronian mints. Invent some Mythron-sounding names for the coin denominations, such as "Crowns", "Lions", and "Swords"

Oh, okay! Thanks! I looked at some of your stuff and got a little idea. I built it last night, and one of the buildings is made of stone with a thatch roof. The other is also made of stone but with some wood higher up and also has a thatch roof. Does that work well enough?

Yes right now we have sort of a shanty town in the large courtyard area to accommodate the large population of civilians. Elpis is still being renovated and patched up in lots of places even though I have resided there for over a decade. So the courtyard area could easily have those type of buildings.

You could do that, if you took care to overhaul the design completely. If it's more a matter of modifying what you already have, then just add that to the same MOC as an update.

You may add five per month - but that's kind of an arbitrary ruling, sort of a cap that Freeling judged that no one would ever hit. If it's been reached, there's only been one time.

Er... That probably describes some Enalican cities. As for international trade, there are only really three nations (Rainos, Enalica, and the three factions that inhabit Mythron), and there's a war going on that cuts down on such interactions.

Enalica is a merry mix of pirates, raiders and merchants currently under the command of a character who has been likened to an LOM Batman. Nerogue, the faction with the horse shield, is about unity, conformity, order and justice. Then you have the Outlaws, who are sort of a mafia made up of despairing exiles and murderers; Mythron, the main defenders of the once-great civilization that once owned Rainos and technically still owns the land inhabited by Outlaws and Nerogues; and Rainos, the uncivilized faction that more or less fits into the plan as the nation that fights Mythron and takes the egotistical psychopaths that find the Outlaws to be lacking.

A few questions about the Rank challenges: 1. Does the faction leader have to be asked before building the rank challenge? 2. Does it have to be judged and deemed worthy? and 3. Do ranks carry over if I switch factions (like points) or would I have to start at the bottom of that faction?

Remodeling: I leave Rainos, join Mythron and assimilate the Troytanions into the greater picture.

Remodeling sounds better. Thomas has already done a little with the Troytanions as part of your crossover - if you rewrite their story, it might be hard to keep straight. Maybe if you want to integrate, you could say that you fell from power and fled to Mythron, so, although some of your closest friends or followers would stay with you, you would also have a reason to work with other people's characters.

3. Ranks do not carry over if you switch factions. This means that you lose any guilds you founded, and spy/ambassador membership in other factions. You lose all of your ranks AND all of your points if you switch after you earn 100 points.
2. Not unless its description says so
1. The complete descriptions for the first few Outlaw rank challenges have already been posted in your faction group, so you do not need to ask the Object of Legend for a briefing. You should, however, notify your faction when you have completed the challenge,

I call it an empire every now and then because that's what it used to be and what it wants to be, but, technically, it doesn't hold any territory that isn't seen as purely Mythronian. In fact, it can't even keep that under control, as shown by Nerogue and the Outlaws.

Well, the correct number of Outlaws who built only an intro is 20 percent, or eight builders. Even Rainos has a proportionate number - I figured that out when I last updated the points and calculated that discounting intro-only builders from faction totals made practically no difference.

Still, as shown by the points quantity, the outlaws as a whole are still the biggest faction.

That's because free roam and freedom in general in an intriguing concept to many. Maybe you could revise your faction's ways a little...

I'm not really in a position of power to do that - at most I'm considered third in command. Anyway, I agree, and I think Brick should probably edit the descriptions of Mythron on the homepage and first comment to show that freedom is allowed - after all, my characters are hardly the stereotypical bóring soldiers, they're pretty free and do whatever they want (basically, they're not really involved much in the war)

Advertising freedom doesn't work all the time. Take Rainos - I've tried to make it clear that even the king can't tell you what to do. There's no dress code, you can make clans up on the spot, you can free roam and raid anyone or no one... and even Mythron attracts more people.

Secondary characters are kind of an unofficial part of the Lands of Mythron, the type of feature that some of my gamer friends would refer to as the "metagame". For that reason, a secondary character does not have the same privileges as a main character, because, officially, a secondary character is the same as any other non-primary character from a sidekick to an enemy grunt. They can be useful because, technically, you don't have to use your primary character (or any character, for that matter) in a post unless a challenge description specifically calls for it. However, most challenges are faction-based, so, if you do have a secondary character that you like to use as a substitute for your primary, it makes sense to create someone in the same faction.

During sign-ups for the Tourney, we did our best to make it clear that you can create an entirely new character to participate there, leaving your other one free to roam the LOM. I have a secondary party of adventurers that I use from time to time, but they definitely aren't even with my main character.

There are three alliances:

Rainos and Enalica

Any members of different alliances will fight each other (and some Rainosians even fight amongst themselves when left with no alternative), but the strongest enmity by far is the hatred between Rainos and Mythron.

You start small. ;) When you make small stuff, you don't have to bother with having too few pieces, because you don't need that many. And you can add more details. Also, I have another tip for you, that will make your creations a lot better: Try using colors that fit together nicely, and not too many of them. It will increase the quality of what you make. ;)

Hey admins, just wondering, can my character find a companion on his journeys?

Yep. In fact you can go beyond that, too:
Quoting Gilbert Despathens
An LOM build must be set in the Lands of Mythron with a reason for why it fits. It may or may not have the poster's LOM character.

So you don't even have to show your character in your builds, you can show only side characters or something like that. I for instance currently have 4 side characters that are my main focus, which is why I'm basically ignoring my main character (Halbert) right now.

Hope this helps!

I have one, but the admins changed the format a few weeks ago, so I can't be to sure. There used to be a button you could click when you were looking at the set and it would add it to your collection. But i'm not so sure now.

I made an account the other week and all I had to do was go through themes and years and add all of the sets I owned from them by clicking a button.

I have 2 questions, one, can I make a new creature up, I would only show it in a couple of MOC's so you wouldn't see it often and two, how often can we post a free build? Thank you!

Run the creature idea past Freeling in the "Creatures and History" thread before you use it, please. Unicorns, hippogriffs, and Narnia-type beasts don't fit with the LOM style, in case that helps. As for free builds, you can post five a month.

I'm not rich. In fact, my family is as average as us gnomes, but my dad likes LEGO and thinks that it helps with my imagination, so he supports me.

This has nothing to do with me Ben. You cannot put something 'in' to the March challenge, it's just an event. The only reason the mods or admins would have deleted anything from you would be because it was irrelevant, so if you post only LOM mocs, they won't be deleted. [Ess]

Or we can just hold mod elections and say that each faction gets one - it will work out to the same number of staff overall, and then Halhi can't complain that "some alliances are better-represented than the others."
