LOM fun fact: The Mythron faction group was once called cowton, while the Rainos faction group was once called The town of Piglot.

MOL fun fact: Soon, those two factions will be selling their cows and pigs (respectively) to any faction willing to buy.

Agreed!

There was some vehicle in the Wild West scene that was really impressive. I think it was a wheeled wooden one right after the getaway glider...

I completely disagree. There were so many funny moments not in the trailer. I would have watched the movie just to enjoy the animation even without the humor. I loved it!

Personally I don't see how so many people like LOTR :P I finished the books and they were okay (mainly the first one, the other two were a bit tedious) but nobody in my family could make it past the first hour in the first movie :P (same with Star Wars)

I've hear a lot of people say this. I think I know why.

It's all about mood and mindset. If you are super excited to see a movie, and you sit down, turn all the lights out, turn the speakers up, and just watch, you'll love it. Hold all judgement back, and just enjoy it.

Another reason I love it is because all my life I heard from my siblings and their friends that it was AMAZING. Finally, when I was old enough to watch, I LOVED them :P

The only reason I bothered with the books is because of the judgement you get as an "avid reader" if you haven't read them. They're alright, (the third was great, actually), but they're pretty slow.

The Hobbit, however, is by far my favorite book :)

The Hobbit is a good book but the movies are disappointing in the fact that they are not at all like the book.

LOTR can be dry at times - I laugh at Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli with their long-and-often-greasy hair and unrealistic speech all the way through the movies and I haven't read the books in ages (although I read them all twice in elementary school). I do admire them, however, as the foundation of modern fantasy, the root inspiration for thousands of books, thousands of games and quite a few movies.

That is ann0ying, but I've gotten over it. After years of being disappointed by films, I've learned to lower my sights and enjoy some of them, even when Hollywood adds a white orc and a love interest that weren't in the original book.

Yeah, I guess it would be a good idea to take the movies and the books as separate things instead of getting disappointed when the movie is not as good as the book or when it is not true to the book.

Yeah, counting the UC I'll be posting either tomorrow or Wednesday, I'll be at 4 MOCs in three months. It seems like every month I go all out on one MOC and spend a ton of time on it, then I don't have enough time for another good build. The good thing is that my average quality stays high :D

Ah, but why would one think criminals with little or no intelligence are awesome? Most people choose that faction because of the freedom it offers, when all factions offer that. Of the five factions, outlaws are the most hated because of their popularity. if people join because of the massive lead of points that faction has, they were deceived, as only about 6 or 7 of the 40 some outlaws are actually actively enthralled with the game. an Another reason not to join is because they have to purpose. by that I mean they have nothing to try and accomplish, while every other faction has something to strive for.

What I like is you make your own Accomplishments. and i didn't join because of freedom or points (i didnt even read the points thread) i joined because i liked it better then the others.

Well my character is a Outlaw But not completely. He only became a Outlaw for one reason which i'm not going to tell you because it might spoil my story. And he only robbed for a bit and then stopped. and its fun being chased by the Government. And when i joined i didn't know it was the most popular i thought Mythron was until i joined the faction group.

Last night I thought about what the LoM would be like without factions. There would still be countries and orders, like Rainos, Enalica, Mythron, Nerogue and the Organization, but membership in one of those would be open and optional. So many problems would be solved: We could have major locations change hands in the challenges, Enalica's size wouldn't affect anything, we could elect the best leaders overall rather than the best of each faction, players could define their own characters however they wanted without living up to standards...

In the current form of the game, we spend a lot of time trying to equalize the different factions. I don't think it will ever happen, but we would have a lot more freedom to make a perfect story if we stopped worrying about all that.

True, it would. Plus, we wouldn't be constantly arguing about factions, and we would be (I think) the first Medieval Lego RP without factions. I personally like the idea quite a lot, but it would change LOM would definitely loose some players.

I think LoMs factions have shaped it so much it has become the biggest part of LoM. These positives you mentioned aren't that much of an upside in my opinion and I think it's more important that we keep LoM the way everyone knows it and not try to change everything, possibly destroying it, just for some originality or better leaders. LoM is so fun as it is that we have over 330 members. Don't try any drastic changes or we could lose a lot of them.

Last night I thought about what the LoM would be like without factions. There would still be countries and orders, like Rainos, Enalica, Mythron, Nerogue and the Organization, but membership in one of those would be open and optional. GoH's factions are almost like that. They're just different places to build, essentially, and they never fight with each other. I think factions should be kept.

I agree that the factions should be kept by all means, but this is how I would set up a game like the LOM if I had to do it over. Even in the GoH, there are so many restrictions that it isn't really a perfect medium for telling a story. Sometimes I just wish I could cut myself loose from all that...

Or you could just write your own story entirely, without having all those PEOPLE to mess it up.

I could do that, but people make it all worthwhile.

The upsides I mentioned were more like added bonuses... Gilbert's post with his original idea had some good upsides though. Anyways, I believe it was only an idea, so it's unlikely to happen.

I've been trying to kill someone for even longer than that...

I was scrolling down, saw that, scrolled up again, and paused.

I'm guessing Steven because of the 125 Rank challenge.

That's one challenge that didn't make the cut, as it happens, but I want to hold onto Steven. When I first wrote that challenge, he hadn't grown on me yet. I'm planning to kill a much more obscure character.

I'm about to embark on a large-scale and long-term project of a story. What's troubling me is which skin tone I should use for my characters.

I'd like to here from each of you which you use (flesh or yellow) and the reasoning behind it.

I have been experimenting with it in a few of my LOM MOCs,but I think 'flishies' and 'classies' can co-exist in the same MOC(in my opinion it works fine).

Depends on tone of the story and style of builds. I definitely prefer the realistic look of fleshies. I vote flesh!

As Infy said, it depends. If you want it to look super realistic, then go flesh. However, if you're like me, you don't have very many fleshies. It makes it difficult to have a good story if you need to reuse face :/

Also, most fleshies are from movie themes, which means your characters will always look like someone who already exists.

I use yellow because it has more expressions available, but flesh is more realistic. There's the problem that Caleb mentioned, having your character look like someone else. What would be especially interesting would be to see flesh and yellow colored minifigs as different races in the same story.

As it happens, I'm currently planning to use flesh for the basic races like humans, dwarves and wood elves, but for the high elves I'm using yellow to add to their theme. As in their skin was long ago hallowed by the first rays of the sun.
