If I were you I'd keep the S2000. The main reason is cause I'm partial to Honda, not Toyota. Maybe you could by the Subaru? I recently saw a few, they look sharp!

I own a 1990 Nissan Silvia. 2.0L turbo 5-speed manual. Have owned it for about 8 years now. Ridiculously fun car considering they're so cheap to buy, run and maintain. I keep meaning to build it in Lego form (my yellow one that I made was so wrong in terms of the sizing) and will do it one day. I'll be selling it soon as it's not exactly a family-friendly car and my son is almost too big to fit in the back. I don't even know why it has back seats... kinda silly when it's so cramped even for a 4-year-old!

@ Sam : In France the 1990's Sylvia is known as 200SX. I like a lot this car.

@ Ape Fight : S2000 is such a cool car !

I have a Renault Clio 2 1,5l diesel 3 doors from 2005. Not too ugly, comfortable, quiet, compact, not really exciting finally. But i love its incredibly low fuel consumption : between 3 and 4,5 l/100km. ( from 78.4 MPG to 58.8 MPG in quiet drive)

Because the Toyota Prius made everyone who knows nothing about cars think that hybrids are the best way to get good mileage, even though a good diesel will always get better mpg.

The fuel is, but a hybrid car cost around 5k more to start with. Not too mention, to get the best mileage (in a Prius) you have to replace the tires more frequently.

With the high price of fuel, european car builders are forced to create very sober vehicules. Using downsizing, with powerful smaller turbo engines, multivalves, with stop-and-start systems... And of course diesel, which is not the best idea because of the toxicity of the diesel particulates. Only big diesel cars can afford a diesel particulate filter which can fix more or less this problem.

My little Clio diesel has only 65HP for 91.5 in3 engine, but can reach the top speed of 180 km/h-111MPH (on the dashboard) after a long, long time of acceleration. Mostly able of 160mkm/h-99MPH in fact.

The recent trend for smaller turbo'd engines yes - actually it's as much to do with EU CO2 targets as it is MPG.

But we've had smaller engines than the US since the dawn of time. Smaller cars for smaller roads (and probably smaller people too!). But then, American engines have never made much power for their size.

Now the 'big three' are using their Euro technology to bring decent engines to the U.S. Shame it took them so long but then again, there does seem to be a certain hatred of anything 'economy' in the U.S.

In Europe small doesn't mean cheap and crap, but it still seems to in America.

Gotta disagree with you there S.C. On the motorway, yes - Diesel (currently) beats Hybrid Petrol. But in town, Hybrid wins hands down. So it depends where you drive.

Within 10 years almost every car (diesel and petrol) will be a hybrid. I'd bet my Honda on it.

P.S. In Europe diesel use has exploded to over 50%, the U.S is probably 7 years behind but starting to catch on. However, the next set of EU regs will measure NOX as well as CO2, and suddenly diesels won't be so attractive anymore...

I like the Veloster, and pretty much all of Hyundai and Kia's current cars to be honest, but I personally wouldn't get a Veloster as a second 'fun' car.

It looks great but it's an ordinary hatchback to drive. In fact, it's probably less fun than your little 208 to drive.

As a daily driver that looks a bit different, yup. But it's not really a sports car. Or even a hot hatch. Looks great in that lime green though!

A nice car, but not a sports car. Depends what Loek wants from a car though, not many people actually want a proper sports car

They're loud and bumpy most of the time!

For Ä21.950,- we have this rather clean TVR T350C: http://www.autozone.be/tvr-350i-t350c-coupe-3.6l-speed-six-te-koop/auto-2199557

Not bad, not bad...

Good choice - the T350, as one of the later TVRs, is less of a liability than, say, a Tuscan. Price looks right too. And it'll go like stink and sound like thunder :-)

I wish I was brave enough to own a late TVR! I've ridden in a Tamora and it was savage. I think I'd go for a Jag XK if I had £20k to spare on a nice second-hand car. Sadly I probably never will!!

Sold it last year - it was that or restore it (£xpen$ive!!). I'd had it for 8 years.
Oh no! I feel sorry for that, too! And why did you only "nearly" buy the Traction Avant? Too much to fix or restore?

Actually, by checking out some local dealers, I think the best suiting and best driving car this one's my favorite: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/2012_Hyundai_Veloster_--_01-20-2012_1.jpg

What a machine. I almost know sure this one's going to be it. Back-up plan seems to be a GT86/BRZ.

Great choice, all of them!

But why not a European car? The European market is very weak, now, and the "local" manufacturers need each and every new car sold in Europe...

Nice! Just one thing though - you could buy that car in the UK for about £3500, maybe less. Worth the steering wheel being on the 'wrong' side?

That's a no: because one: 3,350 is not much I have to say, but for that price I have to get it from the UK or ship it in to Holland, leaves a lot of work/money. And for when I drive a lot the steering wheel being not on the right side: not done. My mates Skyline R33 has the wrong side steering wheel, I drove it, when there's a truck ahead you can't see a thing.

Mmm, as Europe is now in the "Anti-Global-Warming"-session you can only get -10k backpacks or cars which drive 0 MPG but absolutely no fun to drive. Second hand could be the solution though, but I think I'll stick with the Mazda.

Lol, I guess you must be in the U.S! In Europe everyone's first car is a £1000 hatchback. Mine was a Clio 1.2. Oh Yeh.

I strongly reccommend that you do NOT get an S2000 as your first car. No disrespect meant but I'd predict it'd last less than a month. Same for BRZ.

well, it'll probably have a shorter running time too... i've seen a few pics of what the 2014 model might look like, i like the current version best

Yay! BTW Are you still going to keep your 208?

Yes! I think the 208 is more practical as I noticed the boot of the Mazda is quite small. Those small rear doors are also very practical!

Of course. I have a private parking spot, almost free, so now I'm going to have to order another.

By the way: I call my 208 almost since I have it "puppy" , how can I call the Mazda? :)

I believe he's referring to the new car he gets every 4 months... so maybe in 2.5 years he'll have had a free GT86 in every color? O_0

wouldn't you just getting 1 free car (and keeping) be better for them than switching every couple months?

Companies here can sell cars as "new" even if the have a few hundred miles on them, so it might be that they just rent 'em out for a little bit and then sell them permanently

Seems like all Toyota's are relatively 'poor' off the line. All the fun starts once your moving around over 3k rpm. =)

A Prius will beat a Ferrari off the line (no joke!)... up to about 5mph ; )

I've sadly just sold the S2000. About £600 below a private sale book price but considering I can't get in it (and therefore I can't take prospective owners out in it) and I don't know when I can drive again £500ish isn't the end of the world in order to sell it to a dealer.

So, when I can drive again, I'm thinking cheapo track day car (£3k-ish and under so dents etc. don't matter). I could get another MX-5, but what else is out there car fans?

Fun, not speed, is important for track days. Yes fun is often due to speed, but speed isn't always fun. Aaaand.... Go!

I can attest that a 98 Corolla (manual!) is very well sorted. I bet once you tore out the backseats and spare tire it'd be reasonably quick. And they're dirt cheap, at least over here. My parents bought mine for around 2k. +500 some for a new radiator. Plenty of engine upgrades, too.

babyseat wouldn't fit in the back; it had to go. Those are some nice models but I have a soft spot for the stock Supra (as mine was). I'd love to see something in real bricks though.

I sold my Nissan Silvia on the weekend. Going to be really sad to see it go (had it for nearly 10 years!!!) as it's been an awesome car for me. Picking up my new (used... but still new for me!) car today. It's a 2004 Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo (no Ford jokes please!). I needed something with a bit more room and I managed to find one with relatively low KMs and in awesome condition and is also not modified. I even found one in the colour I wanted, woo! Can't wait to get it.
