Activity has been low. We are now going to release the much demanded debate, religion. Post the numbers (and letters) of your preferences.

1- A single general religion thread, which might get confusing.
2- One religion at a time.
3- Release two or three at once.

If 2 or 3, choose the topics you'd be most active in from the following.

A- Christianity
B- Islam
C- Post-Modernism
D- Hinduism

I don't believe Post-Modernism is a religion, mah boi.

Methinks that religion is a huge topic and would get derailed by people quoting pseudo-factods. perhaps a series of topics about certain aspects of various religions would be easier to keep on topic. Maybe something like:

The Golden rule: guideline to social harmony or outdated?

A single religion thread will become Christians vs. Atheists, for the most part. I realize there are some here with other beliefs, but not many.

Yay, heresy!

I don't see the point in a discussion that cannot possibly change anyone's opinion.

I think most religions are the same in general.
If you want to start a topic like this, it should be something like
"religion vs whatever"
or
"is religion xy still acutal or outdated?"

Thanks for the input!
I must say many religions could not be more different. Some say there is a God, others say that there are gods, and still others claim there is no god at all.

Technically speaking, doesn't the belief system have to include a god or gods or some sort of deity to be considered a "religion"?

It doesn't have to include any deity to be a religion. It just has to have a set of rules and rituals. Example: Christianity is a faith, with several denominations(religions) within it.

Not at all.

Well, depends on the definition of a deity. I believe all religions and faiths worship a concept, which can then be called a deity since it is considered as such by followers.

It's pretty weird, but it has people talking so I guess it is a success.

I think 1 would work, since nobody seems to be interested in other religions than american christian fundamentalism.

(And those who are not interested are generally atheists.)

Then what about just calling it a Christianity debate? I'm afraid it will turn into another creation vs evolution thread, even though that was a very successful debate.

Personally, I don't even see why I'm in this group, being that I think most Debates are utterly pointless.

False. You commented to supposedly portray the idea that you don't wish to debate, yet if you felt that way, you would not have posted a comment about thinking debates are pointless in a debate group, as you are aware that by doing so it may very well lead to the start of a debate, as you are introducing your opinion on something publicly with the knowledge that it is entirely likely that someone will in fact counter your argument as El Barto just did. NICE TRY, FREELING.

I was simply stating my opinion on debating, and that it was pointless for me to be here. But I guess I will stay around just in case something gets interesting, or If one of those VERY RARE occasions come when I want to debate.

I'm sorry you have not found interest in the current debates. The administration would appreciate your ideas, please head to the "New topics and new announcements" thread and post your suggestions. Thank you.

That is one long sentence. I'm not sure what to think.
