I am just sitting here, waiting for the R2 theme! I already know I made it, I totaled the scores of everybody, and I know I came in about 17th place or so. So yeah, bring it on!

Did you happen to know what my score was, and if I made it?

There's a list of those who made it on the R2 thread (not the empty one). Also, to know your scores, just add them up and divive the result by the total number of judges who actually judged. The resulting average is your final score ;)

I only have 2 concerns with it: its pose-ability is very limited (like, extremely), and instead of a single cockpit, there's several mini-slots to hold the pilot. Now, that wasn't in the given theme, but it was put there to avoid "riders" stuck on top of anything, and none of us ever even thought of a solution like this. So I'm willing to consider this in theme, not by the letter but in the spirit (other judges may choose otherwise).

Erm, I have some concerns here about being able to take apart your character to fit it in the mech and ShadowGear's entry in particular. (Sorry about that but if Yuri would've gave a straight answer to start out with, I'm sure this could have been avoided) Now these two statements of Yuri's seem to contradict each other, one saying yes, and one saying no. Now I have to ask what's the deal, were we aloud to split apart our character to fit them inside them mech or not? I know that talking with some people within the contest the general consensus was no and I know if it was clear that you were able to split apart your character I would have done something completely different and probably other people too.

Sorry for causing a stir around ShadowGear's entry but I just want this to be a fair contest.

I certainly would not mind being disqualified in order to be fair to the others. But in my defense, here was my thinking.

1: Yuri's response of "would you like to be dismembered in order to fit into a mech?" That seemed like a political response. But he is correct, that would be painful. However, not everyone's OC's are purely bio-mechanical, some entries (including mine) are merely robots, which would not be a problem to a machine. While the contest in focused on BIOnicle, Technie and Hero Factory are still used, and there were never any rules stating your OC MUST be a Toa/part of the Bionicle mythos.

2: The design of having my pilot disassemble into multiple parts was not an act of laziness nor defiance towards the rules. It is an homage to classic Super-Robot anime. More in line with GaoGaiGar or Super Sentai. The idea of slapping a robot man in a bigger robot man suit is classic, but common. My idea of separating a robot's consciousness into each limb, attaching them to a corresponding part of the mech, and using it as a direct link to the torso is a more modern idea to me. Like the brain telling the leg to move without even thinking, a wireless nervous system between pilot and mech.

My idea alone is wacky, but my final product turn out to be extremely satisfying. It could have been better, more possibility, really. But, I blame part shortage (for once). Yuri, I would be perfectly fine if my entry were DQ, I feel so many others such as L.A. and Chro did a much better job at the theme than me. My entry was made for selfish reasons, and for such, this is what I would get.

Well since the contest did not specify that you even had to name your character, let alone give a story and say what it is (Mine doesn't even have an element or species given!), you could use that either way. You could say that BECAUSE you gave your moc a character that specifies that it can be taken apart, that it MUST be allowed, or you could say that BECAUSE the theme didn't specify, story shouldn't matter and whatever the judges say goes.

In any case, I don't think anyone would have a problem with it, since it's clear with the sheer size of the suit that if you had wanted to, keeping the character in one piece would just be a matter of making a hollow torso, whereas what you did was for originality and style. In that respect, I think it's admirable that you did that, but personally I find the idea itself to be a little far-fetched in terms of feasibility (how does he get into the suit after he's ripped his limbs off? Does he have to bite off his own arm after he's ripped off the first one?), and logically I don't think it's more efficient to rip up your body instead of just going Pacific-Rim bot style :P

Quoting Shadowgear 6335
But, I blame part shortage (for once).

Um wat

I'm pretty sure you used the MOST parts :P Plus, keeping the character in one piece would just mean hollowing out the torso, which means less parts too :P

I have already reached and explained my decision. Yes, you stretched the concept out a bit, but I still considered it to be on theme. Beyond that, it's up to each of the others.

You still haven't really answered my question. Why did you say no at the start of the contest but yes now? Like was it a mistake or what?

Also a little bit of clarification I wasn't trying to get ShadowGear DQ'd by any means. I just want to know was I able to take my figure a part to fit in the mech or not.

For me it was a no, at the time. In my eyes Shadowgear managed to pull it off with that "multiple slots" which make each part of his character both wear and drive the mecha. Also, he did neither "modify" nor "scrap" his character, and separating it into parts was the only way to follow his idea.
See, that's the risk in asking theme-oriented questions. Judges can't know exactly what you have in mind for your entry, so we end up giving non-committal responses that can mislead you, because you also can't know exactly what we're thinking.
In fact, from next round (and hopefully in the next editions) judges will not answer that kind of questions anymore. As long as your entry fits the given requirements, you're free to interpret the rest, as it's always been.

thats the thing for the qualifiers, i personally find just redundant, that most of them don't have a "shot" at getting in the contest, it's just the usual competitors it's like o i have a slim chance of getting in this contest, but in reality im not even going to get pass round 1 like seriously that just dumb

You can't consistently state that all newcomers have less talent than veterans. So far I've seen a few new faces that have been pulling off a remarkable effort. Not all are of equal footing, and that is exactly why newcomers are mixed in with the veterans. All are given the shot, so it's up to them whether they hit or miss.

Compete to win. There are no consolation prizes.

No offense, seriously. Don't want to be arrogant or something like that, but you're the only one I see who doesn't find that exciting. I actually love the BioCup, seeing how newcomers can surprise me or how the veterans work in new ideas or designs in order to keep at the contest. So, why don't you make the contest by yourself? Ask some people for judges and, if it's needed, make advertisement of the contest here! I don't think that this would be a bigger problem for the judges than make a 'newcomers special' contest. As you can see, they work a lot for this contest, even some MOCers came back to the site only for it. We can ask them for some improvements, but for more work is a bit selfish in my opinion. Again, no offense.

first of no offence taken
secondly if ii could start a contest, no one would honestly join because of the fact that im not popular, and lets face it if some one invites me to a contest the fist thing that come to mind is, what is this kid bothering me for. then if i do join the contest the contest the host usually ends the contest also, most reason why some not all people join the contest is prizes, im as poor as dirt so, thats a problem all on it's own

If I recall, one of the earlier contests I hosted, I had in mind of the separation between veterans and newcomers. It was alright, but I believe I could have ended the last few rounds better. The point is though, with the separation, you have two separate bars of excellence to reach. Part limitations and money aside, this would place the mindset of the newcomers that they don't have to push themselves in order to achieve, which is not the intent.

Nope, making different contests would be the same as assuming newcomers can't match up with the veterans, ahd thats just no true. Of course experience reflects on the MOC, its just natural, but that doesn't mean a newcomer doesn't stand a chance, or shouldn't at least aim to. Thats the purpose of a contest: to push your limits so you can get higher. If we did separate contests, I would feel like patting people's heads while saying "Awww, don't worry, kid, you can stil win something! Just go over there to the colorful corner and sit on the pink cube with an 'A'. You know what an 'A' is, right?". That doesn't sound too fair to me. And no, we don't judge entries based on the MOCist's popularity. Gee, I'm not too popular and Crowe isn't a veteran, and we are both judges! Would be quite hypocritical to do so...

Well, we try to be as non biased as possible in our scores, to judge on their entry and nothing else. If you find this not to be the case and it does have some level of bias, then it might help to elaborate on just what makes people popular around here. If it's not the creations they make and how well they promote themselves, what else would make them popular here?

It varies. Some people like to dress up their first picture to make it attractive, whist others think that the MOC sells itself on its own. Like with anything, seek to improve, ask for assistance on things (using Photoshop, GIMP etc) as well as trying out what others do to see if it works for you. There is no universal "Instant Popularity" technique, just go with what works for you for what you want.
