Yeah but I can't build it. It's mace of freaking GOLD. and it's all curvy. The movie one has a lot more straight angles and it's made of a color I have plentiful of.

Rip your left arm first, then take a picture with your right one and upload it it Flickr. I wonder what Freeling guts look like....probably ramen.

Pattern recognition is integral to the way the brain functions. Although you probably see hundreds of numbers each day, it's the numbers that you have a connection with that stand out, which is what makes it seem like you encounter 911 more than other numbers.

Look at his build, and then look at Halhi/Infy's build. Yes they were of completely different scenes and movies, but the techniques and overall builds by Halhi/Infy were much better in IMHO.

Quoting Halhi 141 Yeah, I agree. It's because of his personality, he's very arrogant and cocky, thinking that he's better than everyone else and that he doesn't have to try.

Yeah, and there's a reason for that. He DOESN'T have to try. No matter how bad his builds are, everyone loves them. His latest was one of this worst, and what happened? He got first place.

Exactly.

Although he has posted one good build recently - his blacksmith's shop is very visually appealing, the textures are pretty good, the architecture is nice, and the base - despite the gaps in the cobblestones - looked great.

Yes, that one is a pretty good build. Deserving of about half the likes it has, though. His stonework is the only "bad" part of the moc...and it is very much so.

Yeah, I agree.

Now if only Gilbert were as popular as Jacob, and vice versa... Then again, Gilbert's presentation (way too long stories in some 180 picture posts, story posted out of order, and such) hurt him though, and I think a lot of times he punctuates great builds with small, poor builds, and a few with good techniques that aren't refined at all...

I thought we were done discussing GYCN. Now I'm pretty annoyed. -.- The only thing to do when I'm annoyed like this is to go pump iron. Later. >_>

I wasn't starting up the GYCN thing again (nor was I jabbing only at you), I was just making the point that you guys were being kind of rude even if it was meant as a joke. (And I do believe there have been a few "favorite for a favorite" threads, as well as some unofficial systems like that, in GYCN. Whether you're looking for likes or not, it has the eventual trading favorites effect.)

My point is, instead of congratulating him or at the very least ignoring him, you boasted about having way more favorites than he did. That sort of thing can really put a damper on achievement, even if it is a relatively minor one in the long run.

(Sorry if I'm making a big deal out of it, but this sort of thing annoys /me/. :P)

I walked into the kitchen as my Mom opened up her nasty silver polish.

I staggered back as the first scent of rotten eggs mixed in with alien poop hit me in the face. I hit the floor gagging and asking my mom if she farted. And THEN. I saw it. The dreaded silver polish. Aged since the beginning of time, and then put on the shelf for commercial use. Little did I know, that when my Mom bought it, and brought it home.. That I would be here now, on the floor.

I don't mind if he does it in the comment section, but in the actual post he says that kind of stuff. So before anyone has given their opinion, he assumes whatever he does will be loved.

I do that too a lot of the time...maybe. Not to that extent, but I do say something if I think the build is really good, or at least looks impressive in size and layout. I've said it in my R2 and R3 entries, and it looks like I'll be able to say it for my R5 entry as well...

Oh cool, that means there's a better chance of Andrew moving on. I'm personally less afraid of Andrew because he's consistent.

And the tan buildings...that looks like that could be good for my entry, the diversity of buildings (1 tan timber building, 1 white timber building, 1 dark red brick building, 1 something else that I need an idea for...anyone?) might stand out

To add to this, the best rock pieces to get in large quantities are:
Dark bley cheese slopes
Dark bley brick, modified 1x1 with stud on one side
Dark bley brick, modified 1x1 with headlight
Dark bley 2x4 wedge plates (left and right), as well as the 2x3 and 3x3 sizes.
Dark bley brick, modified facet 2x2
Any curved slopes, particularily the 1x3 and 1x4 ones.
Dark bley round 1x1 plate
Lots of dark bley tiles, especially in the 1x1 and 1x2 sizes.
Any hinges; the new ball joints in the Mixels sets and Legend Beast sets are probably the best, though I have none.

Those are the pieces I find myself using most often in rockwork. I actually don't use 1x2 bricks much, at least not significantly. Hope this helps!

I know you'll disagree, but for big, bulky, large rock formations, using both and 1x_s and 2x_s are good.

It's nowhere near as PaB, but it's great for getting the pieces you really want, as long as it's in stock.

I asked this a while ago and got no responses...I'm really in need of an idea for what type of building the last one should be. I have a tan timber building, a white timber building, and a dark red brick building (see more in the WIP thread). I need one more building, and I want it to be something different from the others, probably a stone or brick building that's white. Any ideas/inspiration? All I can find from most builders is the traditional timber buildings.

Hmm, so you're kind of building a harbor?

You have brown, tan, and white buildings. . . I don't know. I'm not sure if people build medieval houses and such in other colors than those. Well, there is that weird light blue color that some builders use, or maybe try a brown building with black framework? I really don't know.

Honestly, I'd suggest just making another white timber building (but with some different techniques, like an entirely plate-and-tile roof and maybe custom windows or something). Four completely different buildings might look odd; you'll want a general theme for the harbor, and two buildings of the same type (but a few buildings apart) would help with that look.

Hmmm... A few problems though...
1. I already have a really good white timber building; another couldn't be better, so it will be worse, meaning that people won't like it as much as something new, which people could interpret as being of the same quality.
2. Piece count is an issue; I'm running out of brown in particular, especially tiles. I could use the same tile-free technique as the other one, but that makes it too similar.
3. Custom windows... Maybe but I don't know how I'd make the shutters, which are important for hiding the lack of an interior
4. Plate/tile roofs are too hard and take too long, I tried one and it failed.
5. I already have two timber buildings of similar colors (white and tan) that already look very similar; having a white one next to the tan one might look weird.

....

I think I will do another white building (or a medium blue one, like Alex suggested) but the style will be more similar to the dark red one (in other words, random, possibly anachronistic architecture all just for the purpose of looking good)

Yeah, hopefully. Then I'll get 5 (I think) more points in addition to the 5-7 bonus (not sure whether I'm third or fourth...) that I've already won...which means that I'm at 50 now and I have 3 rank challenges to build for, plus the Anniversary challenge that I'm about to start on...

Halhi, in all seriousness, thanks for the critique comment in the Mythron group. I'll keep all the stuff you said in mind, especially about the colors I use. I've been using rarer ones because I have more of them.

I don't think we see eye to eye about building. In my mind your builds are over textured and messy, while to you mine look bland and too clean. Our personal preferences are different. I'll make sure you aren't disappointed by my TT R7 build. ;)

I take it Adam posted all that stuff? Mythron really needs a spy...
I actually wouldn't say yours are bland. Just the texturing isn't as effective as for instance Gilbert's texturing on his UCA build (and I think that sometimes you overuse masonry bricks)

Eh, it's still a bit early. I sincerely hope the judges go with Infy though. Despite is weird tower-thingy, he landscape was superior to Andrew's I'm guessing a very small part of Gilbert might lean towards Infy solely because he's Rainosian....only time will tell.

I think why Andrew's has already gotten TWO votes is because his MOC has two parts. Infy's on the other hand had only one "side." If he gave that tower an interior, he might have had better chance.

Well, you said you did the best you could, so don't feel bad. Just last week I had a big bball tournament and eventually it came down to me shooting foul shots with 2 seconds to go. If I made them, we'd win. But I missed them. But I did all that I could to prepare for that, so I knew not to dwell on it for too long. You did well, man!

Yeah, I'm just kinda disappointed. I think mine was a better, more complex build overall. The judges said that Andrew's fit the category better, I wish I'd taken the category more literally. I always just read the category once and start building. Andrew gave the judges what they wanted and it worked out for him.

I also really wish that my good camera hadn't died, I think photos make a big difference.

Yeah, I didn't have any room for an interior, I used a lot of more complex techniques for the tower. I had originally planned for the tower to be half of a gate, but I realized that I didn't have a big enough collection for that real quick. ;)

A run is basically a point. You can score a run by successfully making it to (be sure to touch though, it's easy to skip around if you hit a double, or if you're on first and a double gets hit) all three bases and back to home-base.

I'm not sure what he meant by rings but I assume they won silver rings for their achievements. :P

I used to do that, and shoot, I wish I still did. Now I spend half the deadline wondering what to build, the other half making sure it fits, and the rest building/posting. (in the last few days. >:[) This is a habit that must be remedied.
