I already have a few different space themes that I have developed for various cuusoo projects. can I use one of them or do I need to come up with a new color scheme?

As long as it is different to one of the official CS themes it doesn't matter if you've used it before.

If we use pieces that weren't available in the CS era (such as cheese slopes), will points be deducted?

Any pieces are allowed. Just make it 'feel' CS.

To make the rules in the color aspect clear: We can use any color-scheme but NOT the CS-color scheme? F.e. grey/blue or grey only or white/blue.

You've got it, any colour scheme as long as it deviates from one of the original CS themes. It's up to you how different or close your take is. What we want to see is a new CS theme. Something like the feeling I had as a kid when I first saw Futron or Space Police themes.

now its clear.

Another question:

LDD give the ability to use parts in colors that never ever existed this way. Is this allowed? And how you will judge this in comparison to an anetry made with real bricks? :)

I think if you want to say make a pink classic spaceman in LDD that's absolutely fine. We'll judge everything according to the same 4 categories noted in the rules, with no differences between real and virtual builds.

How strict is the "three-color" rule? I have a black hull piece that fits what I want, but I have some white stickers on another piece that I want to make use of. Can I have 2 "accent" colors?

I think there is a little flexibility here. Stickers are fine, as would be some extra colours in the trans lights etc., all of which would be completely in keeping with CS.

Yes, nice twist with the new colourscheme challenge! That will be fun. Just one question, how many pieces does a minifig count as? I can't remember what the ruling was last year.

Yes, a minifig, plus his oxygen tanks, counts as just one piece, like last year.

Do we Have to have a new colour scheme?
Since my activity bar went up I've been buying Blue, black, white, and Trans neon orange in bulk.
I have a bunch of trans Neon Green elements as well, but not any of the abstract colours, pink, purple, or green.....

What he means, probably, is can he make a model in a color scheme that one builder in the universe has used before.

Nope, the colors he mentioned are the Ice Planet colors.

I just wanted to check something. I've already put my entry up, but I realised after I posted it that I'd misread the rules slightly and have since made some changes.

Is this a problem? I haven't (significantly) changed the description or the main build, but had to make some slight additions due to the parts count being under 30 and then realising I'd included more alternate builds than was required.

Also, I'm planning on rendering a new main photo using povray. Is there any restrictions with regards to adding, changing and removing images once the moc is in the group pool?

If I were to use red (for example) as my detail color, would trans-red be okay to use? What about trans-orange and trans-yellow (both are close to red)?

There is always the possibility of doing the build in actual bricks and then recreating it in LDD with the colour combination you want to be "official" for the contest.

Plus you could always photoshop the images to change the colours.

Imagining a new colour scheme is definitely what this year's contest is about. Having said that, you could use red and blue or red amd yellow or something. You don't have to use the newer colours, such as green or purple or orange.

So long as you've got your final version posted by January 11, please don't worry as that's the version that we'll judge. Please just post one thing to this group, as that way we'll know what you want us to look at.

I'm afraid that there aren't any answers to your questions. It really is down to you to decide what you think looks good.

Fantastic, as I've been messing around with the pieces this morning and think I've come up with something better than my original design. I tend to do stuff like that....

I noticed this year it seems focused on colour. I like this idea a lot, but I don't have a lot of rare colours available. Is this going to give my entry less chance?

I was only using red as an example. I guess to state it better, if I already have my three solid colors picked out, are trans-colors of the same color tone (i.e. red and trans-red) able to be used? If I am using white, blue, and red (just an example), am I able to use some trans-red in there?

David already confirmed, it's entirely up to us what colours we use, there aren't any "banned" combinations. Any NEW combination would be acceptable if you think it looks right.

Please don't go out and specially buy bricks for this contest. Part of the limit on the number of parts is so that folk can build things from their exsisting collections.

apologies if this has been covered already, but I can't seem to find the answer to my query, so here goes;

i'm sure I read the spaceman counts as 1 piece however;

- do hinge pieces which are used in pairs count as 1 or two pieces? i noticed in some entries, people are counting them as 1 and others as 2.

- are wheels with tyres counted as 1 or 2 pieces?

- can I use a non classic space man fig? i'm embarrassed to say I have none in my collection but have a few spacemen from more recent sets.

thank you in advance.

With the exception of minifigs if something comes in two pieces on LDD I treat it as two for the contests, but I'm not 100% sure of the official ruling re: hinges.

As for non-standard mini figs, the rule is use what you have, so my view is, if you don't have a spaceman mini fig use a different mini fig.

As there seems to be a lot of confusion around the colours, I'd also like to ask something. I have a lot of traditional CS parts in blue, white, gray and black (see my recent builds). I know this won't pass, but I don't have much of the pieces I'd need in the colour orange (what I picked as my accent colour). Can I also use red and yellow? On another note, the colour of my builds is very non-consistent, I like to "segment builds" as in black for the cockpit and grey for the body and white wings or whatever. How far can I go with this?

There should be only one accent colour, however, we give some room to wiggle with multiple trans light colours. Segmented colour building is fine; I'd be interested to see this.

Andros is right: hinges if supplied as 2 parts count as 2 parts.

If my Color theme is just 1 TRANSPARENT Color away from being an Official color scheme used by LEGO in one of the CS themes, would it count against me? For Example, my entry consists of Mainly Blue and Black, with white accents. That is mainly what Ice Planet 2002 consists of. Since I was a boy, I have collected nothing but Blue, black, white, and Trans Neon Orange. I had a few Trans neon green elements from the Alien Avenger set I Acquired one Birthday, and that (Except a few insignificant trans blue) is the only trans color I had besides Neon Orange.
So naturally, I had no other choice but to use this color scheme.

Dude, I basically used BT2 with t-n-orange instead of t-n-green. Or Ice Planet with black instead of blue.
Another guy went for Ice Planet with t-n-green instead of t-n-orange (or BT2 with blue instead of black). Don't worry about it.

I have one more question. The "CS factor" that will be judged, is it about pure resemblance to Classic space only or are points awarded for the "retro" look, even if it resembles something from Space Police I or Blacktron (or any of the old themes)? My creation (not posted yet) is looking very M-tron-ish, will I lose points for it not being pure CS?
Thanks for answering in advance

If it is M-tron-ish I can't see any problems here, the CS factor is pretty elusive, but us old ones know it when we see it.

From my understanding of the rules, it was to be three colors only. Not to take away from anyone's build, but I did notice more than three on a few builds. I am in no way complaining about it, I am asking because if I could have used trans-blue in addition to the three solid colors that I used, I would have made a few changes. For example, the chain blade, crystals, and round 1x1 tiles would have been trans-blue.

Both judges deducted points for builds with too many colours in them. I specifically mentioned it in a couple of my comments on people's MOCs.
