For those who didn't make it in time or others who want to enter more…

There are some topics in the book that are rather thin and I'd really like to flesh out. I'm allowing ongoing building for another month – until early May – FOR THESE TOPICS ONLY. Prizes will be the same. Here are the topics:

DARK CHOCOLATE
can be anything with chocolate.

BEASTS
creatures that look evil or untamed. No animals holding guns please.

DARK AMERICA
- Flag treated in some way
- anything that speaks toward this

DARK MYTHOS
ancient creatures, beings or mythos

INDUSTRIAL WASTE
pollution, dirty industry scenes

PITS OF FIRE
anything hellish

Hey Mike,

Quick question. Would a broken-down, abandoned industrial plant-type thing fit?

Thanks,
A M

Thanks! Not sure if I'll have the time, but we'll see. Thank you, also, for accepting my snowman! :D I'll email you ASAP.

If we've already submitted three can we submit more? Or replace one? The group is still on a three group limit.

So pleased to hear this - score-keeping duties for the MOCathalon and real-life work had kept me from building for this and now I get another chance! Time to pick a subject.....

OK, I have a question: Can I make something that might fit into two or more genres of the choices here (for example, something that fits dark chocolate and industrial waste)? I guess you would be able to put it in either section if it got in at all. Is it OK?

I'll try, most likely will be made from bionicle. =)

Ooh, as I'll be home this weekend, with no limits on submissions I may have to try for something hellish. :)

DARK MYTHOS
ancient creatures, beings or mythos

Does "dark mythos" have to be a preexisting design for the species? For example, I have my own concept for a fallen angel-type MOC that is distinctly different than other interpretations (at least, I haven't seen anything similar yet.) Is it permitted?

Also, I don't know if this has been asked before, but do you have any preferences for the background color? My best bet would be a dark blue background, or I can take one of my other backgrounds and GIMP the color.

My main concern is not to retouch, particularly adding backgrounds in photoshop and changing contrast hue. In the end, I will lose data, in particular when silhouetting is quickly done. If you are photographing against a color then a somewhat darker color is best.

I normally do a little bit of photoshopping in my backgrounds, usually to eliminate edges between the boards that consist of my normal background. That, and my only dark background (seen here: http://images.brickimedia.org/2/29/Vergeis2.PNG) is a blanket, and therefore prone to have creases. But I could probably edit the background without altering the MOC itself.

And also, the entry would be mostly black, so the background would have to be lighter than the MOC itself.

This looks like great fun! I just found out about this, I will try to get an entry in.

When you say dark, can it translate to dark past, or does it have to look dark? Just a thought.

Do we have to use the categories listed here? I was wondering since there are entries that don't really fit any of the categories, yet were still accepted.

These are the categories not yet filled in the book, as stated above. Other accepted entries were different themes, but Mike doesn't need more of those now. So yes, it must be these from now on.

Would a mythical beast (such as a Minotaur or Cyclops) count for the Dark Mythos category or the Beast category? Or does it not really matter?

Another question: is there an "official" deadline, and if so, when is it? I tend to work better (and not procrastinate) when I know my deadlines. Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike :), you have set the group to limit only 3 submissions per year, which prevent me to submit more than 3, kindly advice :) thank you :)

Mr. Doyle,

I've looked around and I can't find anything on whether we can enter a previously posted MOC. I'd like to add one, but I wanted to make sure it was okay to add one that's already been posted. And if the contest is still open.
