Dangit I had to leave and everything I wrote disappeared so now you're gonna get the short version.

Here's the rules and questions thread. I'll post rules. You ask questions.

-----
Rules
1) Post a link to your entry in the appropriate thread or you will be disqualified. Remember, you don't have to post on mocpages. I ask that flickr and brickshelf users create a folder/set for their moc so we can see all the pics in one place, but you won't be disqualified if you don't.

2) Post a link to this contest ON YOUR MOC. Yep, shameless advertising. This won't get you disqualified, especially in later rounds, but if there's a tie in the entry round, it may be used as a deciding factor! So do it.

3) No old mocs. Yadda yadda basic rules of every contest ever. Use common sense if I forgot something yo.
-----

-----
FAQ
- I don't have my opponent's mask, what do I do?
- Improvise. You aren't judged on the mask, but how you use it.

- I don't have a self moc.
- That's your first round entry. The normal category for first round will be posted 6AM EST on Jan 26, but if you don't have a self-moc, start now.

- How does judging work?
- There will be no points. Judges will confer for the entry round (all have an equal say, so it's not just me being a dictator), and for the normal rounds, it's votes. Whoever gets at least 3 votes in each matchup moves on.

- How many people get past the entry round?
- Either 16, 24, 32, 48, or 64 (yeah THAT'S likely), whatever is closest to the amount of people that enter. (rounding down of course.)

Whoever tried to post that comment with a page full of digits, no thank you. It's basically spam. And besides, from an intellectual standpoint, I don't care how intelligent you are, it's almost impossible that you'd be able to calculate it to such a degree, so clearly you were lying by saying you did so mentally.

If you read the front page, it says you can always post it to somewhere like Flickr, or I think dA (Not sure if that was mentioned). All you would have to do in that case is post it in the round thread, if I am correct.

Just a tip: Nobody is going to believe you if you say this, either on the internet or in real life. I'm not going to say that you're not a genius, but I will say that I don't believe it, and that you sound pompous and arrogant by saying it, especially by passive-aggressively insulting Chro, which is just low.

It would have been SMARTER (huh) to instead politely correct Chro by showing him your method for calculating the square root of a number, or maybe linking him to a webpage for it.

If you were planning on making a new self-moc before the competition, and feel a serious need for people to make this new self-moc in the competition instead of your old one, then yes. But I guarantee that designing and building a new self-moc that you are going to be happy to keep for a long, long time is going to be a LOT more difficult than just going with the theme that we have for round 1. Your choice, but remember, this is a contest.

Are we supposed to base our entries on the minifigures or the theme's sets? Like, could a Castle-themed entry basically have a bunch of walls and banners built into the armor? Or an EXO-Force themed entry that is basically a battle machine in his own right? Some series/sections like Ninjago ninja have some color variation in both sets and minifigures -- can I make my own color scheme, as long as it feels like one that there would be in the official theme? Will points be deducted if the colors we choose are too close to those of our normal selfMOC?

(rambling off questions from the top of my head.)

You need to
"Make a version of your Self-moc, as it would look in another Lego theme"
Take that as you will. If you think that that means to create your own color scheme, then that's what it means. Just try to play to our (the judges) strengths.

Quoting Glorified Pessimist

No. You don't need a single system part to be the #1 competitor this round. your entry needs to look and feel like it's been merged with the line. Whether that means that you gave you MOC crenellations and flags or built and interpretation of a knight or king minifigure (for castle obviously, you can work in any theme you want)or anything in between, it just has to look and feel like the theme. Use your imagination guys, this is extremely open-ended.

No. There is no contest ever where you can use old stuff; secondly, this is the only round where you will be building your own self-moc, all other rounds will be other people's self-mocs.

(rambling off questions from the top of my head.)

Minfigs or theme itself: It's best to go with the theme. It's more out-of-the-box. If you pick power-miners, it's better to base if off the machines, rather than just some blue miner guy. If you go with castle, it would be cool to see some guy that is MADE OUT OF a castle, rather than just a boring old knight. Go wild!

Themes that involve giant robots or mechas or the sort like Exo-Force, Chima, Ninjago, etc may get you stuck in the typical bionicle style. I won't actively discourage them, but just watch out if you pick one of those. A tip for all contests, not just this one: if it feels easy, try something weirder! I believe that every one of my best mocs came from me going waaaay out of my comfort zone and doing something different. Go wild: we like creativity!

I don't mind if you use minor non-lego elements if that's what you're asking. You can be non-purist to the highest degree, you can use megabloks or kreo or whatever, as long as it's mostly bionicle and looks good, I'm fine with it.

I'd strongly advise staying away from picking specific characters, at least in licensed themes. You're basically just making your own category by doing that: "Remake any character from any licensed series that lego has created sets for." In retrospect, it probably would have been a good idea to ban all licensed themes, because I don't believe any good will come from it.

Yes, that is a valid lego theme. Try not to pick a specific pirate character from something though; i.e. you can make a generic stereotypical pirate, but don't try to make Captain Hook or Blackbeard or something.

Well yeah. I consider that to go under the "bionicle" parts, as well as all technic/slizer/roboriders parts.

I agree, not just because of the fact that Ketros is a good friend of mine, but also because it is pointless to start such an argument. I personally believe you both were correct, I don't believe Taile was trying to insult [Chro], but I do think that it was sort of unnecessary to try and convince people of your ability, real or no, to calculate such a number mentally. So I suggest we keep this thread as what it's suppose to be: A Rules and what I assume to mean questions related to the tournament. If I offend anyone I'm genuinely sorry but I'd hate for this completely enjoyable contest to be ruined over a few misunderstood words or comments. Thanks for understanding.

Please, let me know what you think I should go with, or any suggestions you have. I don't think the title of the MOC will have anything to do with the overall score, I just really like these names, and can't decide which one choose.
