ROUND 3
 Group admin
Finally Lord Oblivion got online at 11:30 tonight so we could settle the debate of Chro vs GP. For the record, that was the most hotly debated matchup; the most hotly praised moc this round was Zion. Props to you, your moc was sweet, exactly what we were looking for! We also loved Toa M's dragon. Props to you too. You two need trophies.

This weeks(?), the overarching category is AWESOME warriors. Yeah we did this last year, but it's just too cool to not do every year. We've improved on it; besides the first matchup, everyone has room for choices.

Toa Era vs Gale Winthrope
Ceremonial

In the spirit of #Festoonuary, make some kind of ceremonial warrior. Like aztec or witch doctory kinda thing, some kind of warrior that wears LOTS of STUFF. Get to Festooning your moc with swag.

Toa M vs Marko Petrusic
Boxer/Luchador/Matador/MANLY MAN

Pick a MANLY MAN. The MANLIER the better. Maybe he's punching godzilla while riding a dolphin through space while exploding. Pick some profession that is incredibly manly and make a moc. (Feel free to ask in the topic or in private if stuff is okay, you'll probably need it.) And no, you can't make Chuck Norris.

Commander CJ vs Ziontyro Metalhead
Tribal/Nomadic

If it's a tribe, or it's a nomad, do eet. Native americans, eskimos, huns, samoans or some other kind of islander, you name it.

Chro vs Smooth Jazz
Norse/Roman/Greek

Yes, you can also do the gods from these respective cultures. Basically, dudes in armor with cool weapons n stuff.

GIT TO IT
You have until Saturday, March 8th, at 11:59 EST or some reasonable time afterwards. Just get it in before judging plz.

I'm sure you will my friend...That's usually how it works, and to [Chro] We all know your not invulnerable, but think of it as a compliment. I mean I've seen more than one of your MOCs make it to home or explore page, so think of it as us holding you in high regard for your sensational abilities and eye for detail. I wouldent call it a failure is call it a lack of required parts. Ps unrelated n v3 there is so many greebles its kinda crazy,

Greebles are hard to balance. It's great to have areas of complex detail to make a MOC look awesome, but if you overdo it your MOC can look bizarrely overtextured. So, it's really up to you in context of the MOC. If you feel like the MOC would look better with more detail, go for it! And if it would look better with a smooth and clean aesthetic, then you don't need to greeble it up.

Also Steve, would it be important to get as many greebles as possible or is that more of a minor problem.

No to both of those statements. No, it is not important to get as many greebles as possible, and no, it is actually a major problem. The major bionicle communities (Mocpages, BZP, etc) tend to have a fatal flaw that is religiously followed by its members as if it's a good thing; for mocpages, one of these is the conception that <more greebles> = <more good>, and that there is no upper limit to how many greebles you can put on a moc. Greebles are not even necessary on a moc; they are an element of the moc's texture, and should be as carefully planned as any other aspect of the moc. I think there is also a misconception about what "greebles" are, and to be honest, I don't even know if my definition of it is right; but I believe that the common meaning it has come to have is that greebles are small, unnecessary bits and pieces that are added on as an /afterthought/.

As this contest can be more or less simplified to be half build and half theme, it is important that your moc is well-thought out and consistent. (Note that well-thought out and planned are different; I don't personally plan any of my builds, but I pay close attention to how aesthetics interact within the moc as I go.) Greebles can be used, but without careful consideration they can detract from a moc.

Quoting Toa Ketros Lord of Twilight
This is the semi finals i think

You might be right, but by accident. We are considering making the final round a 4-way, but I'm leaning towards no on that. There will be 4 people left after this, and typical tournaments will have one more round, so that the final is between two mocists.

Also I have considered having a second contest for the people who did not make it, but I don't want to organize it, and people will not be as motivated.

And yeah, it was short. Not as many people entered; I think it's because I started advertising at the wrong time, and I am not as active as I was a year ago, so people were less likely to join.

Well I have seen over greebled mocs before they look to messy the balance is only determined by the mocs texture and if you want to break up a few areas or fill in holes. I never said add all the greebles you can. But if I did I'd probably have more clutter. For me greebles are a bit easy i don't have much of the parts for greebles only minimal but the way i normally (I made a new style for my newer mocs recently.) do it is look at the parts if the moc has pre greebled parts and has a smooth look i try to break up the smooth parts for a balance. Imean look at galaxus for example he over greebled in v5 now he has a balance that matched his moc. That is how greebles should balance. At least in my opinion. SOMEBODY GET COSSY FOR HIS GREEBLE EXPERTISE.

Cossy's MOCs tend to be overgreebled. (His most recent BioMOC isn't so bad in this regard since he learned what Gray said above: a highly greebled MOC does not always equal a good MOC.)

Yeah but when he over greebles it usually doesn't look too bad but he's really good at deciding of it takes away or adds was all i was saying but it was just a joke so please don't take it too seriously. (I know that can be hard)

Honestly nobody can really judge greebles other than the fact if its unnecessary or needs more detail. Honestly greebles (in my opinion) can only be judged by the owner of the moc because greebles are a tiny add on that varies drastically moc to moc there's no real way to say its over greebled unless its entire body is covered in it or most of the body. I guess we'll leave it at that.

Oh yeah Steve or Grayson whatever you prefer here's an exact definition of greebles.
Web definitions
A greeble or nurnie is a fine detailing added to the surface of a larger object that makes it appear more complex, and therefore more visually interesting. It usually gives the audience an impression of increased scale.
| February 25, 2014, 7:20 pm
For me, greebles are space fillers, I agree with Chro that over greebling can look bad, but greebles aren't ABSOLOUTLEY POSITIVELY necessary, just something extra to give your moc more detail. Just an extra two cents.
| February 25, 2014, 8:51 pm
Yeah I agree, so I'll try to have a couple but I just don't pay that much detail onto my MOCs, like [Chro] and Cevka said, over greebling looks bad (I've seen it before) but a few make it look a bit smooth I guess. Well hopefully I can capture Metalhead's character cause I still am not sure I have an idea of a tribal warrior.... This will be hard to crack but I have to build it this week, because I have an Underwater robotics competition next Saturday So yeah I have a lot of work to do.... We are the Mississippi Gulf Coast Contenders!!! (Our robotics team) Anyway bye all forgive the rant.
