Final Round - FIGHT!

Welcome to the final round.

I'm having a rough day, I just found that the MOC page that I wanted to link here has lost a lot of pics, and the originals are in a faulty HDD.

So without further ado, let's introduce the theme which will determine who's the best...

Mary Sue This!

Create a short story, set in an established sci-fi/fantasy universe with a character based on yourself as protagonist. Challenge/mock/exploit that universe's staples and tropes to humorous effect.

Time frame: tell me how much time you think you'll need and we'll talk about it.

Eyes on the prize guys!

I had a feeling it was going to be a story MOC! Hmmm. This will take a bit of thought. I'll get back to you shortly with a suggested time frame. Great theme though!

Interesting indeed! You have set a very wide spectrum to pull from. Will there be any limits to the length of the story, size of the build, selection of established work?

As far as a timeframe, I think it might depend on these answers. Kind of gauge what you're expecting.

The story can be as long as you want, and each vig/dio can be as large as you need it to be for your narration.
We will judge the entry page as a whole. I used to have an example, but most pics are gone, as I said.

I might say this is about minimum quality (being mine and all) and optimal to maximum length.
But I'm so sad that the best vigs are gone :'(

So basically a snarky, slapstick ridicule of a sci-fi/fantasy film? (Probably in bad taste as well?)

Thanks Yuri for the post, that's a helpful guideline even with the missing photos. While trying to decide which of my favourite sci-fi universes to lampoon, I'll open the bidding for time frame: I'd like to make a good job of it, and I'm going to be AWOB (absent without bricks) for 9 days in the middle of May - on the other hand we don't want it to drag on indefinitely. How about 27th May (4 weeks from today) as a deadline?

I could point at Life of Brian as another example of the genre.
In the end, it's just a fanfiction theme.

Always look on the bright side of life! Dadumdadumdaddadumda.

I couldn't agree more with Stuart on the timeframe. Personally, I have my Brickworld build to concentrate on, but I want to give you the absolute best I can do. Plus, I don't want any imbalance of time if Stuart is AWOB. I REALLY want to see his best as well! So, officially, I vote for four weeks from today on the 27.

Let's round it up to the end of the month so I don't have to remember a pesky date.
So the finals end with May.

Brilliant! That's why Yuri's in charge.

Roger that, already have strange stuff swirling around my mind. Oh, wait. That's normal. Okay, I have interesting stuff focused on this swirling around my mind. ;)

Good luck Stuart! Can't wait to see what's swirling around yours. =]

Make it so.

(That may or may not be a hint...)

All right-y! An extra few days to procrastinate, perfect. Battle is joined! Although I have feeling this category plays to your strengths. Now, does anyone live near Matt? What I need is a sudden and dramatic increase in local demand for bronze art and chainsaw repairs towards the end of the month...

XD

I'd like to call on people near you to increase the need for a molecular biologist; however, that sounds like it might be apocalyptic. Visions of other sci-fi movies are racing through my head now. (28 Days Later to be specific, and topical to our present timeframe.) ;)

well then, this looks like a true death match. winner gets to keep on living and loser joins the not living ;)

Ugh!

Actually have some funny plot points and conversation going, but no builds as yet. Still trying to put out fires for the Brickworld collab. Double ugh.

Can't wait to throw down some brick very soon, actually tomorrow and Thursday.

... well?

Well-ish. I've only really done one story MOC before, this is proving quite challenging. I had a plot well worked out, but I might have to scale it back a little to meet the deadline. A couple more late nights are on the cards...

How's the Brickworld thing going? I have to say, I wouldn't want our contest to distract too much from such a great collaboration, which will be viewed and admired by thousands, nay tens of thousands of visitors in Chicago. So feel free to concentrate on that and go easy on this one :-)

Thanks Stuart! That's a great idea! And quite a relief. Yeah, I'll get going on the collab. and put this one on hold. Thanks for the... Hey, wait a minute. You! You weren't trying to trick me, weren't you?!? Why I aughtta. Almost had me there. XD

I think the extra time merely allowed other things to bombard me simultaneously. I think we should have gone for a week to ten day timeframe.

BTW I thought this contest was expressed to be simple builds easy to knock out. I think we've been duped. XD YURI!!!

Likewise. Give me a month and I still don't start building properly until the last week (although it has been an unusually busy month). Good luck and see you at the finish line!

I stand by that. A short story is nothing more than a collection of those :)

Phew! Made it, at the cost of a few more hours sleep. Glad it's Sunday tomorrow or I'd be wrecked.
