I'm sure you guys have heard that the new animated project is called "Star Wars Rebels". It'll take place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. As you know, that is a pretty long gap, about 19-20 years I think. More information here: http://starwars.com/watch/star-wars-rebels-announce.html

So is this going to be like a TV show like TCW? It sounds cool!

Yes but it's going to air on Disney XD so I have my doubts. I hope they won't screw it up.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of conflicts with other things.

We don't get Disney XD, I'm hoping for some online option, like they did posting TCW on starwars.com, or maybe on hulu.

It could be either but I think mostly good. I hope they include some characters from the Star Wars books like Ferus Olin.

Yeah, I was never really in to extended universe much, so I probably won't notice the conflicts as much, but I think it'll be pretty good.

I don't understand the use of CGI. So from that I would presume it's targeted at children again? CGI is alright for space (Like you see in modern shows like Stargate, Battlestar Galactica and even the later Star Trek stuff) but without live action actors it won't be as easy to take them as seriously.

Well one thing is for sure, it's going to be childish. They can't show anything that's even close to TCW on Disney XD. I really hope it's not going to be like Ultimate Spider-Man. That would be an insult for the Star Wars universe. They better not screw this up.

Unfortunately, it will probably wind up like TCW, but more childish. The use of CGI adds to that, and makes it less appealing to the TRUE audience.

The new films won't be CGI, right? I'm hoping Disney doesn't target young kids with the movies.

Computer-generated images. Basically animation, like TCW.

I have some doubts too...

Btw, does anyone know if they will continue the TCW series now that Disney has the complete rights?

They won't. Abrams is a Star Wars fan and I'm sure he will make it appeal to both hardcore fans and kids. Like he did with Star Trek. I have faith in him.

No it was cancelled a long time ago, but they will show us some of the story arcs they finished, which will be like 2-3 arcs.

After the abysmal feeling I had after watching Star Trek 12 I have far less hope than before. They did not redeem the franchise at all after the the lower than average 11.

Luckily Abrams actually liked Star Wars as a kid, so he won't change it too much hopefully.

Think about it. Abrams now has Star Wars and Star Trek in his hand. He practically has the basis of the sci-fi universe!

Hopefully he can translate what George Lucas was able to do with the original 6 and make the new ones like those.

Original 3, the prequels were really bad.

I didn't like the series that much, but it makes me a bit sad, since I really liked the episodes and the ending of the last season. They were becoming better and better.

I loved the series. It's my all time favorite series after the Game of Thrones.

I agree. It wasn't great, but I liked the ending arc and I look forward to seeing the other arcs.

How come you guys din't like it? TCW delivered the best SW stories after the original trilogy of course. Yes, like every show it had some very weak, boring and childish episodes (the ones with R2 and C3PO or the Jar Jar episodes. One of the best examples is the awful droid arc from season 5) but most of the episodes were really good and every season has some EXCELLENT episodes like the Ahsoka arc from season 5 or the Umbara arc from season 4.
So how come you didn't like the show?

I think there it is more like a development. I didn't like the first two seasons at all, because they were so childish and unrealistic, but the last two had some really good story lines that can be reccommended to older people.

I thought season 1 was pretty good, but as some story lines were conflicted (Even Piell's death, Barriss' turn to the dark side, etc.), it made me lose interest. There were some good arcs, but I just lost interest after season 3 or so.

I think the prequels trump TCW by quite a bit. Live action always works far better for Science Fiction - look at the Animated series VS the Original Series of Star Trek. The animation made it easier to make more creative planets, but stories and such could not be as serious due to the lack of realism of the animation. (Not saying TAS was bad by the way)

I agree, the visual effects were great, but the story line was a different thing. They focused way too much on politics which was really unnecessary and those politic scenes weren't even interesting, they had this annoying whiny crybaby Anakin who cried about everything and you just wanted to kill the character immediately when he appeared on screen(The Clone Wars Anakin is much better) and they overused CGI.

Try to keep in mind that it is a show for younger people, but luckily after the first 2 season when their animation had evolved and they upgraded main characters look they also started to make much darker stories. Like the Umbara, Darth Maul and Death Watch and the Ahsoka arc which is by far the best story arc. In my opinion The Clone Wars is much better than the prequels. TCW has some episodes that focus on politics but at least they're interesting, unlike in the prequels.

Oh, I almost forgot they created the annoying Jar Jar Binks who should have never been created.

I enjoy the novelisations far better than the films themselves to be honest. They are very different from the films and hit right on the mark that the prequels, admittedly, did miss. I think they were another case of brilliant idea, poor execution. The characters are far more fleshed out and understandable. But the politics were well done, in my opinion, and really added more depth to the story. After reading other books like Cloak of Deception, Darth Plaguies, The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith, it is interesting to see the Sith Grand Plan in effect.
