I think they use gold foil or something, which doesn't weigh that much, or it may just have been painted!

Prepare for a long story....

our family (in our house) aren't that well off. However, my Uncle is. He also knows John Preston, ex-Honda F1 team chief. My Uncle lives in Spain/France/England (business takes him everywhere, but that's another story) and mark is in Oxford...somewhere. They've bought a 944 S for track days and races, but they don't really have any mechanical background. My Dad, though, is a very well trained mechanic, probably the best in out area. My Uncle and Marks money + my Dad's mechanic skills = perfection. So the Porsche is with us, and whilst my Dad painted the brake calipers, I had the lovely job of cleaning the wheels well. My finger tips are now swollen ;P. No joke. D=

Yeah I was just thinking it cost however much more to run when you've not long passed your test for a 1 lire Corsa, so a Delta....eek!

My favorite Porsche is the 917. First, it is absolutely awesome, kind of immortal design.
Then, on a technical point of view i like the fact the engine is a total "what the heck":
An enormous air cooled flat 12, kind of powerplant you see in tanks usualy. If the big fan you can see on the top of the engine stops working...the engine may melt!

I'm happy to see someone saying that another porsche than the habitual 911 is best! You seem to be a sort of 917 fanatic, and I can totally understand and agree with it! The design is perfect, even a bit extravagant, and the engineering is at his best. The engineers who worked on this car if I remember right discovered the downforce ...
But on road, it's a bit more complicated with a race car...
And I personally think the best racing porsche is the 917, roadporsche in history the 914-6 and the actual best the 918

My all-time favourite is the 911 model 993. For me it's the "best of both worlds": On one hand it's the last "classic" 911 with an air/oil cooled engine. On the other hand it has a modern bodywork with "smooth" bumpers and flatter headlights.

Well nils it is a good argument.
But in my mind, the best of the two worlds, modern and ancient, is the singer 911. Because I think the 993 doesn't looks very modern today.
