As the title suggests, this is going to be a contest to test your brick built figure skills, with a limited brick count. All the juicy details regarding rules, and prizes, yes that's right PRIZES, will be revealed when the time is right.

For now all you need to know is that the timeframe for the contest is:

Beginning on Thursday, May 1 at 12:01 AM Mocpages time.

Ending on Thursday, May 15 at 11:59 PM Mocpages time.

David can I be a judge?

Welcome aboard, Andrew!

I'm afraid that the judges have already been selected. However, in spite of your low assessment of your brick built figure skills, I for one am truly looking forward to what you can show.

Good luck and have fun with it!

Any figure you want to build is perfectly fine. There are definitely some rules that will be posted soon including a monkey in the wrench that should prove to be quite the challenge. Which means that building something RIGHT NOW based solely on the 100 piece count will not get you very far.

Howdy Commander! We will be doing so shortly. There are a couple of items in the rules that we will not be disclosing just yet. Wouldn't want anyone to get a head start.

For right now, here are the basics:

100 pieces. (duh)
Any brick built figure (even ice planet)
LDD is allowed.
Timeframe is May 1 through May 15.

There are some requirements for the figs that will hamper any pre-contest building. So, I suggest that you DO NOT start on anything. It will be a waste of time. ;)

And to think that Henry the V went through all that "Once more unto the breach..." blah, blah, blah when "Kumquat" was right there all along.

Brevity.

You see, simplicity is the key to a great speech. You must be completely sure your audience understands and remembers exactly what you said, so their Great Grandchildren will still be able to tell their kids.

That, and t has to be COMPLETELY out of the blue.

As the title suggests, this is going to be a contest to test your brick built figure skills, with a limited brick count. All the juicy details regarding rules, and prizes, yes that's right PRIZES, will be revealed when the time is right.
Thanks for inviting me! Unfortunately I'm away from my bricks and won't be able to enter. I look forward to seeing the MOCs though
For now all you need to know is that the timeframe for the contest is:

Beginning on Thursday, May 1 at 12:01 AM Mocpages time.

Ending on Thursday, May 15 at 11:59 PM Mocpages time.

Dude! I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO AN ICE PLANET SNOWMAN!!!

I understand completely about other obligations, but never sell yourself short. YOU have as much say and right to be here as anyone else. THAT makes you equal to everyone here. Clean slates all around.

Please don't throw in the towel yet, you'll have two weeks to put something together. Life's little requirements take all of us away from the fun that is Lego. But it's always something to look forward to at the end of the day. (That and an ice cold beer. Mmmm, beer.)

The monkey in the wrench. You're welcome. XD

I actually have all the pieces including the potty which, oddly enough, was the real impetus for this idea for me. To me, it always looked like a Pharaoh's crown. I was curious as to see how it and the others would be utilized other than under a baby. ;)

Not to toot my own horn, but in my Forced Perspective for the MA, I managed to use 8 of those modified octagons for the near hand. I have seen builders use the oxygen tanks as fingers. The airplane motor and the inverted 2X3 with towball for faces and mouths. And, of course, the banana for pretty much everything. ;)

These were all chosen specifically because they have a very interesting past that belies their full potential. Convention is for those who wish to remain static in this fantastically diverse Art form. This will be a fun "lesson" of pure visionary realization.

Enjoy the ride!

I made a giant wheel out of those. I actually disagree with Nnenn on that being THE most useless piece. There was another rubber band holder that has no studs or technic pin holes. (I think I have three of them.) There was also the Bohrok "clip" with a post that attached to it's body. Really quite useless.

Well, for some reason, my reply went to mediation.

Anyways, Tyler, I would strongly suggest that you go over to the Everything You Need To Know thread and give her a good read. It will detail all the rules involved for this competition to make it fair for everyone.

Although very good, your creation does not qualify under the criteria we have set forth for the competition.

I will allow you to remove it from the group. But remember that the contest ends in two weeks so you'll have plenty of time to create a wonderful figure to post that will be competitive.

My apologies if the rules were unclear, but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Mr. Cold says: "I am sad to say that I do not possess any of the mystery pieces. This is another reason why I cannot participate. "

Mr. Cold.

When you argue for your own limitations, you will almost always win.

The mystery parts only account for a total 5 points. That’s 5 points assuming you can employ EVERY mystery part. They are novel, amusing, and will provide opportunity for some zany hi jinks... They pose difficult tactical challenges, but they are NOT obstacles to participation. They are only gravy. If you build a rock'n figure... then it's a rock'n figure. We will all see it, and we will all dig it. Rock on.

The name of the game is trying to succeed when path is difficult. Heck man, trying to succeed when the path is easy is what gets you out of bed and to the breakfast table each morning. You should take a deep breath, maybe get a little angry, and then build right past the mystery parts!

Don’t tell us why you CAN’T… show us how you CAN!

If not… then enjoy your breakfast.

Attack!

The mystery pieces are an ingenious idea, but at the same time, I'm finding them to be incredibly frustrating, especially in combination with the 100 piece limit. The subject that I am trying to use for my contest entry was something I had originally intended to build at a much larger scale (a real person, BTW). So far, I've managed to work in 2 of the mystery pieces, and I might have an outside shot at 3, but anything beyond that seems impossible. Congratulations to the admins for creating a spectacularly devious challenge.

I was going to use a banana for my hair anyway...I'll just be holding a shovel as well. ;D

Be careful there buddy. A hand holding a shovel is not very innovative at all. The point of the Mystery Pieces is to "integrate" them logically into your construct (Please note the word "logically".) For example, a banana for hair or a chest bulge or a belt is exactly what we are looking for in regards to them. If you simply tack on a Mystery Piece thinking that it will count, it will towards the 100 piece limit but NOT towards the 5 bonus points for the MPs. ;)

This contest isn't designed to make you think outside the box, it's designed to make you get a better view from on top of it. Don't think of the Mystery Pieces as crutches, think of them as a crutch for a poor soul with a broken leg.

As a judge, I want to look at the character and NOT see a Mystery Piece. I want to hunt for it. Look at Stephan's right arm and Matt's color block at the waist. I didn't realize they were Mystery Pieces at first glance. Yahtzee!

Think about the MPs, look at them, understand what they are, then throw all that out the window. The MPs have so much more potential, help them realize it. ;)

My comment for the people in charge.

I read the very brief conversation on the Pieces topic. So. If you don't have all the mystery pieces, still participate for the fun of it. I joined rather late because last week I was at the hospital with my 93 year old Dad. He was there because of Renal failure and a tumor removal. Pretty heavy stuff. The doctors kept him for a week till he could function properly. Today I take him to see the doctor to find out the biopsy results.

I joined this contest because it was about the only one where I could build something of interest to me. I've been invited to others, but declined. I'm not into cars, planes, tanks, castles, Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, Robots etc. That pretty much sums up everything I've seen on Mocpages. Oh, I might include critters. Although, the builder who made the awesome Meglosaurus has inspired me to try to make my own critter. But not right now.

10 creations??? I can't wait to see the rest. I want to comment on all. Many of the participants are among my favorite builders and I want to be dazzled.

Well Cheryl, let me first let you know, and I am certain that I speak for everyone here, that all our prayers and best wishes go out for your family and your father for his well being.

Personally, I lost two good friends and my best friend Zoe last year (she was my pooch. Still hurts.) I say this because I found that immersing myself into this particular media is something unique in the Art world. This community is always here and is like a worldwide family. Although, I think there are way more crazy Uncles than the allowable dosage. Myself included. ;) Still, they are always here.

I cannot comment on any of the entries as yet, but they are better than any of us was expecting. Yours included. We do expect to see the standards of various movie figures and certain critters and such, but our intent was for everyone to understand that expression can successfully transfer through the plastic. Building a character builds character. The thought that goes into a figure's presence is not a teachable thing, only a doable one. Same with the fun involved in creating it. THAT is something that ALWAYS shines through.

I too am giddy at the entries so far and to come. And I can't wait to see your own Megalosaur. I'm sure Joe would be flattered as well. ;)

Give our best to your father.

Thanks. Just to let you know, I was not looking for sympathy points. I was hoping my rant would have been a good sock to the chops and kick to the butt Pep Talk to the other builders to get cracking. At the time 10 creations. Where's the other 90? And no excuses for not participating.

I too lost a pet, Corgi, 4 years ago. That's when I started Lego building to get my mind off her illness and eventual demise.

I'm having fun with this. The comments I've received are well thought out and mean a lot to me. It's like others are really looking at my creation and letting me know what moves them.

I hope the judges are keeping track of how many of these 100 piece creations are appearing on Most Popular of the Week on the Explore Home Page and also Most Discussed. I'm seeing some real creative efforts here in the contest. Not the same o same o. And I think the judges know what I'm talking about. I got some what of a hint of that when it was described what they didn't want to see.

Try finding a way to replace 2 parts with one. Sometimes one can replace a group. I know it's sounds crazy but if you think about it you'll start seeing it in your head.

It's a Macro Mars Mission Figure, but the main problem is scale, but my orange is already very limited to begin with. Scaling is hard to do with some larger orang pieces.
I don't want to quit, but I don't want to take this guy apart because I haven't been finishing MOCs for the past 6 months

Economic Depression (n.) 1. a period during which business, employment, and stock market values decline or remain at a low level of activity. 2. that feeling you get in a limited piece competition when you suddenly realize that you have doubled the allotted amount and are still not finished.

Yeah well I've never entered one of these limited piece contests. It's not like 16 pieces where it's easy to count all the pieces you used, it's 100! While in the grand scheme of things, not a very large number, but short term memory can only store about 7 pieces of information and I'm not going to try and remember how many pieces I've used in something. Besides, I don't know how many times you've tried making something like what this contest asks so if it is as many as I think, you shouldn't be poking too much fun.

Mr. Berry, Stop running, take a deep breath, and get back in the fight! We all have to do the deed with the parts you have, not the parts you want! Don’t worry about parts, worry about ideas. And ideas you got right? So focus on ideas... not inventory.

Besides, win lose or draw... at the end of the day, everybody who competes "beats" everybody who does not. I don't want to rip off the Special Olympics but "We all win."

"The skill and talent required to defeat oneself is not a trait that impresses anyone."

I'm not lashing out at you Tyler, I was told this many, many, MANY years ago and it stuck with me. It is a basic tenet to how I attack any project. ("Attack" being the operative word in that sentence.)

If you look at it like eating an entire plate of cauliflower, you will surely discourage yourself; however, if you eat it one bite at a time, you will be done before you know it. Look at the added parameters of any challenge, like timeframe, piece count, odd parts, etc. as simply MORE cheese sauce. ;)

Not everyone will submit an entry, and that is perfectly fine. (I'm looking at you Michael. XD) I am just hoping that you give it a good attempt. After all, what's the worst that could happen? You challenge yourself in something that you've never tried before? You have fun? You win this thing? ALL are viable possibilities. They aren't if you give up.

Bon Apetit!

Uh, Houston… roger your last transmission.

Last weekend, I hadn’t even put two bricks together, and I knew that it had to be built then or not at all. So I took the wife out for dinner, told her what a good mother she is to our children, and begged her for a few uninterrupted hours of build time (yea it went down pretty much just like that). She acquiesced… I grabbed some port… and pushed from brick 1 straight through to MOC.

I'm currently sitting on three pics of a completed MOC, and Goldman (my online seeing eye dog) is trying to pull me over the last hurdle of actually posting on the pages. Since I didn’t do any work over the weekend, I am currently playing catch up in the office (your tax dollars at work…) but make no mistake, I’m in.

Estimated time to posting: +/- 24 hours.

After all the hot air I've been venting I had better post something!

Henceforth Clayton it shall be. I am stuck in pre-online social conventions, preferring to be asked to use first names before doing so.

I know... It makes no sense in an online world where you meet a guy who calls himself "Atomic Surf Dwarf" and you refer to him as Mr. Dwarf... but try as I might, I just can't let go to the old ways.

And by all means (to everybody reading this) call me Mike.

You wanna fight, man? Let's do it!

The cliche is this:
Typically some bosses prefere to go by their first name in the workplace.
Ex:
"Hello Mr. Williams"
"No you need to call me Todd; Mr. Williams is my father."
This is because their father started the business or they just didn't liek their father all to much.

It was joke.

Might keep trying throughout the day tomorrow. Java may update soon enough and allow you to upload. I know the last time Mocpages was doing this, I tried with the simple uploader then the normal one until it started acting appropriately.

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/jcp_security.xml

Or, you can use these instructions by Andros tempest. "What you need to do is go to the java control panel on your computer, if you are using windows 7 or 8 just go to the search facility and type "java control panel" and click the link.

Then select security and there is a section to add exceptions. Click ADD and then type the FULL web address including the http:// at the beginning. Now click ok and when you come back here the uploader should work."

The start button in the bottom left corner, there is a search bar in there.

I had exactly the same problem. Go to 'All programs' on the Start menu, click on Java, it'll come up with more Java options, click on 'Configure Java', go to the Security tab and then Edit Sites List, enter mocpages.com and you'll be good to go.

Get it in here. I will look for it but you have to understand that it is not very fair to the other contestants that have posted to hold up the train.

I want to see it. We haven't discussed the penalty for the piece count violation so go ahead and take a chance. We will discuss the appropriate deduction and go from there.

Until then, it truly is anyone's game. It only isn't yours if you drop out.

Post it.

Matt, David, and Abby,

This has been an highly enjoyable and productive contest so far. The better part of 50 entries? You guys have captured a very high contributor to member ratio. Almost 1 in 3. Well done!

For us, the hard part is done. Building and posting. Now comes the hard part for you.

When will you guys announce the winners?

Almost 1 in 3.

1 in 3 would require 126 people (with 42 entries in) there are 121, 3 of which are admin, and can't post. so 118 eligible, that's a ratio of 1 in 2.8 or (5:14 in whole numbers)

sorry accuracy in stats is one of those things I can't help but correct.

Ah, Mr. Gallardo,

There is no need to apologize!

Your statement would only be a true correction if I had failed to use the word "About" in my own statement.

As it is, your observation is merely superfluous.

you used the word "almost" which lead me to believe that 1 in 3 hadn't been reached. and in my mind 2.8 is exceeding 3. had you used the word "about" then indeed you'd be correct enough I may not have felt the urge to correct you. but alas you did not. and here we are sniping at each other (jokingly I believe) over a approximate ;) .2 difference.

Absolutely agree with Mike. This was a fantastic contest. Sure, it was fun putting together my entry, but I think I may have had more fun seeing what everyone else had been cooking over the last two weeks.

Thank you, first of all, to Abby, Matt, and David for putting on this awesome little event. I'm assuming we should have the results in the next couple hours;). Second, good luck to all those that entered a figure. It has been a great pleasure competing with you.

Too late. Guido the killer pimp should be arriving at your front door shortly. Been good knowing you. XD

No need to apologize, there were a lot of people in here just watching the show. And quite the show it was. I have every intention of hosting this next year so keep an eye out for it and participate at your own leisure. Or just watch the show. It's all good. ;)

Working on constructive comments, as they all deserve our full analysis, and compiling scores. There are quite a few and we feel that they all deserve equal attention. It will, as I explained in the rules, take a bit of time, but please bear with us. We wanted to allow everyone to enter their mocs then start judging to treat them all in the same light.

We'll let you all know soon enough. And it is us that thank you for this fine competition. Even if it was only 1 in 2.8 that participated or somewhere thereabouts. XD

Oh dear; in my hurry I neglected to include the pieces in the shield assembly in the final picture. Just know that those 5 pieces contributed to the 100 count.

Not a problem. I think your count is 101 with the shield. I think. (One of the reasons we weren't militant about the count.)

Sorry Kyle. We were definitely willing to give an extra 30 minutes or so, but 3 days may be on the side of no way in Xell. XD

Still would like to see it, so feel free to post to the Brick Built Figure group.

I will get around to taking new pics of it some time this week, guess I'll just share it there!
