What types of mecha do you prefer? Humanoid? Or perhaps you like the Battletech or Mechwarrior style better? Do you like mecha with hands, or just mounted weapons? What type of legs do you prefer?

Battletech variety, mounted weapons, dogleg design, usually humanoid.

I'm not averse to changing the formula here and there, though.

Well, of the Battletech/Mechwarrior Universe, my favorite is the Shadowcat. However, it wasn't until the Exo Force theme that I got into humanoid type mecha. I hope that they reboot the theme.

Andreas whats the best joints for the legs of a dawn forge walker? im starting to build for that genre.

check out brian's IGNITION mech, he's got joint instructions. I use variations of his joints for most of my mechs.

I like mobile suit types. Nothing like seeing a robot with some dude on it.

I personally prefer humanoid looking mecha (Gundam, Voltes V, Armored Core) because they're much more of a challenge to make. Trying to get something to stand on two legs is a fun challenge. Another reason is because I like building the weapons separately. Building an arm that already functions as a weapon is easy but much less challenging.
