This is less of a question more of an observation. Recently my spyware protection has been reporting an alarming number of adware cookies after visiting certain pages on this website. I'm concerned that some of these may be harmful to my computer.

The cause is all those pointless and annoying flag counter gadgets that some members are adding to their home pages.

does anyone on the MOCpages staff have anything to add on this subject? I know you have asked (repeatedly) for people to not use HTML on their home pages, but as far as I can see you aren't doing anything when people do.

I have no proof that these things are harmful, but until I can be certain I'm not going to visit any home page with a flag counter or visit counter added to the homepage that is not provided by THIS website.

and would advise everyone else to do the same.

Just out of curiosity, but are there any plans to add a spell checker to the website? it isn't a massive problem, but I'm getting a little bored with reading posts that make no sense, are badly punctuated or just plain weird.

I realise with all the other problems the website has had recently this would be like 2,001 on the list of important things to add, but I just wondered if it was up for consideration.

and... this is going to sound peculiar, but is there any sort of intermediary for discussions that get out of hand? I noticed (again) that we had a drama of someone getting booted out of a group, getting abusive and one of the individuals involved (or both, or a third party) trying to curry support in this group. I'm sorry but that isn't what I understood this group to be about.

a peace maker or arbitrator might be a nice to have?

My suspicion with the spell checker thing is - since it's available in other forms (like a google bar, for example) - that Sean may not be interested in messing with it. That's only a guess, though.

The question is, would any of these guys even bother with it? Sign of the times, bro. Communication is so often in the form of a text message that people are typing everything like it's a text. *sigh*

As for the other issue, boy do we hear ya on that! Can we set up some sort of firewall? Call it DramaGuard, or something. :)

you see this is why I get so annoyed by the spelling thing. I've got google spell check and google translator set up in firefox, so whenever I drop a seriously clanger I know instantly that there is an error. I honestly don't understand why the majority of people on here don't have that kind of backup. However I have read a couple of messages which do hint as to why they don't, or don't use them.

"You can remove marquee with ipad" ah, the penny is dropping from a very high height. The reason you write everything like you are using a mobile - is because you ARE using a mobile. Still spell checker apps exist.

as for the other thing. Bans, that's my answer. You can't play nice, OUT! I know it sounds harsh, but having been on other websites where the trolls became "the old guard" it was very difficult to keep order because the most well respected members were the biggest trouble makers, so I'm all for pre-emptive strikes when it comes to repetitive rule breaking.

just my 2 cents, I'm a bit of an extremist when it comes to internet etiquette, having been on the wrong side of it so many times.

I've noticed a couple of my replies recently in this group are not appearing or are taking a VERY long time. Is there a new issue with the servers we should be aware of?

One possibility that occurred to me was that in 4 out of the 6 cases I'm referring to, I had quoted other comments. Could it have something to do with their comments being pre-moderated, since a comment I made later has actually appeared first!

Also, is there any way to report comments? I'm getting fed up with reading stuff that I don't understand or shouldn't be in the help group.

So I was going through that other thread; now, somebody seems to have got the idea that my comment was religious in nature and (it seems) started a new cult over it. Might be wrong, looks like some people deleted their comments.
But anyway, one guy mentioned something about "rights", and it's high time someone addressed this. So, without ado, and addressed to the MOCpages collective hivemind:

MOCpages is not a democracy.
MOCpages is an autocracy.

The Magna Carta does not apply to Sean Kenney.

The only constitution that applies to Sean is: "Sean Kenney can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and doesn't have to justify it to anyone, least of all YOU."

The section on moderators is much the same, except that they have to justify themselves to Sean. Sometimes. Except when they don't.

You do not have a "right to free speech". The American First Amendment does not apply to you.
None of the other American constitutional amendments apply to you, either.

You do not have a right to post, you do not have a right to complain, you do not have a right to use MOCpages for a hosting service.

In fact:

You do not have any rights at all.

Being a MOCpages member is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Ask your mother: people who abuse privileges tend to lose them.

Equally, site staff don't have to justify any of their decisions to you, at all. They can do whatever they want, and you should be grateful that they take the time to get your opinions on their decisions before they make them permanent.

/TL;DR: people complaining about their internet rights being violated annoys me.

Probably because my brain is hardwired so that my first thought, apon finding drama, is to go "BAH HAH HAH HAH HA!", rather than "aww, poor thing, I'll make them stop being mean to you so that you can play in peace", and that's just not an appropriate thing for a kindergarten teacher (or MOCpages moderator) to do.

Dear Mods...

The posts above are SO right. Would it be possible to add this http://mocpages.com/about/use.php

Or even better the actual text itself. People actually use this group to get answers, so having this on the frontpage of MOCpages Help could solve many a problem.

while I would love to just be able to laugh at the "drama" I actually find it really annoying. I think that is the main difference between us Areetsa, my default on stuff like that is anger and frustration not humour.

I think the phrase "lighten up" has been thrown (justly) in my direction once or twice.

Kiddie drama is bad enough. Deliberate kiddie drama for attention is far worse. I give people the opportunity to frak up, once, on the assumption that maybe they just don't know any better. If they then go and boast about their misbehavings, well, game over.

Like I said, never tried to justify the drama. And you don't just not show respect for the people involved in "kiddie drama", you act the same way to anyone who has a single bionicle MOC. In other words, just about every TFOL. And if it's true what you said to JPFan that's not disrespectful, it's just mean. If your above the "bionikiddie drama" then stay out of it.

nothing against the rules, but it does explain the imagination involved when people have to specify a difference between MOC and Self-MOC. Clearly some people here think MOC just means they built it, but Self-Moc means they designed it. Which is an oxymoron as My OWN Creation means you designed it.

Self-MOC should only be used to describe a creation which is intended to BE YOU.

As for official sets, no they aren't MOCs as without some "edits" to the design, you have just followed the instructions.

That said there is nothing in the rules to say people cannot post official sets, but clearly common sense says you should credit the set as official and not claim it as "yours".

Think you'd need to let the mods know who so they can deal with it (someone shouldn't be impersonating you). As for neatchat though, it's not their problem or responsibility if people do things to one another there.

While most groups aren't of an official nature, this one is about as close as we get. With that in mind, it's been our policy NOT to add creations (with the exception of the one that was added very early on). Once one person starts, it tends to snowball. And we'd like to keep this group focused on questions and answers, vs. posting of any images or pages.

I found someone who used "one of MY mocs/ pictures" as a buddy icon. The rules say that you can't use pictures that aren't yours. I know the rules say that but I just want to clarify.

Is it against the rules to use a picture that isn't yours as a buddy icon? Again, I found someone who used my picture as a buddy icon without asking. I'm very annoyed by that. It's plagaerism.

If this is really against the rules, I'll show you the link to the "plagerist" and I would appreciate it if you banned him. Well, "ban" would be too much of a demand. Can you at least send him an email saying that he broke one of the rules?

I have question/problem:
Today I've been trying to change my color scheme on my homepage, so I played around with some different colors. I found that none of the other colors were as good, so I tried to go back to my original color. It wouldn't work, and now I can only switch between the lighter colors (blackr, Blacktron II, and Blackbricks don't work at all). Blacktron II was my original color. Why isn't the color change working? Is there something the mods (or me) can do to fix it?

I have question/problem:
Today I've been trying to change my color scheme on my homepage, so I played around with some different colors. I found that none of the other colors were as good, so I tried to go back to my original color. It wouldn't work, and now I can only switch between the lighter colors (blackr, Blacktron II, and Blackbricks don't work at all). Blacktron II was my original color. Why isn't the color change working? Is there something the mods (or me) can do to fix it?

I want to make sure I understand what you're asking first...

Are you saying that when you click the "change colors" option on your home page...and it takes you to "change the colors of your pages" options...that some styles aren't appearing?

No, whenever I click the styles that I want, it takes me to my page, but doesn't change the color/style.

Never mind, I think it was just a temp glitch. I was able to switch back to Blacktron II.
Thank you for your help.

Is there anyway to disable likes? I know that you can disable comments, but people can still "Like" the creation. I'm only asking because my most popular MOC is almost at 300, but it isn't nearly as good as other MOCs that have less than 100, like this, http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/195203. Once I get to three hundred likes, I plan on disabling comments and asking people not to "Like" the MOC, but I know someone will anyway. All I'm asking is if there's a way to disable likes.

From what I know, I don't think you can disable "likes." Quite frankly, there will always be overrated (as well as underrated) MOCs. If it bothers you that much, you could delete that MOC and re-post it. Just my thoughts.

This question has been asked before. Next time, I would suggest that you look in previous topics for some possible answers. For your question, there has already been a discussion for it here:http://www.mocpages.com/group_conversation.php?id=2600&topicid=82088

Go to the youtube video. Click on Share. Find where it says Embed and click it. Select Old Embed Code. All should be well and good and all you need to do then is Copy and Paste. iFrames are a no-go for MOCpages. Make sure you use the Old Embed Code. If that is not working, you're dong something wrong because I just did that twice today and it worked perfectly.

while I would love to just be able to laugh at the "drama" I actually find it really annoying. I think that is the main difference between us Areetsa, my default on stuff like that is anger and frustration not humour.

I think the phrase "lighten up" has been thrown (justly) in my direction once or twice.

The only reason I don't want you to be mod is that you almost never capitalize the first letter of your paragraphs. It can be quite obnoxious.

Being an English teacher my occasional grammar hiccup is a little embarrassing. Blame an over reliance on Google spell checker for my lazy typing.

Haha, I use photo-editing programs quite often, so I can spot these a lot easier now. I will admit that it's pretty smooth, what gave it away was the shadow. (Just FYI that can be fixed by using a black "circle fuzzy" with about 20% opacity on GIMP ;) )

Yes, a comma, good catch though ;). Also, I believe it is a medical state, not condition (as stated by the Wikipedia).

This is rather amusing. Actually, entertaining, considering the fact that amusing means to "not be thinking" and I am, in fact, thinking.

Honestly though, it is fun. =D

Well, if this thread is a grammar correction thread...
The word "fun" is not equal to the letter "D".

Actually, the "..." conveys the intended meaning and indicates the preparation for starting a new tangent better than a comma.

Although that may be the intent of some people when they do this, but I doubt that was his. It makes him sound more like someone who is awkward and not confident in themself.

Your sentence structure reminds me of a broken bridge. This is what bothered me- "a new tangent better than a comma" It looks like that is what you meant. I think this is what you meant

"Actually, the "..." does a better job than a comma when preparing the start of a new tangent that was better than the previous."

This looks a lot better to me. Despite the fact that I disagree with the statement.

This really has turned into a grammar-smacking thread.

Your dreadful Grammer in the above statement makes it difficult to understand. The correct way to phrase those two sentences is as follows:
"Although that may be the intent of some people who use that punctuation mark, I doubt that it was his. His use of it made him appear to be awkward and not confident in himself."

You must put a punctuation mark (in this case, the punctuation would be a period) at the end of each sentence.

I did make a small error there, it should be- "Although that may be the intent of some people when they do this, it was not his. It makes him sound more like someone who has low self-confidence and who is awkward."

Haha! I think I might have started it, but you certainly helped.

Actually, an exclamation mark works just as well, as long as you intend it to sound like you are shouting. E.g "Are you okay!"

I see that, yet again, you did not put in the necessary punctuation.
A period should be put after the "g" in "e.g."
