Homepage content erased

Hello MOCpages Mods and Admins

Apologies for the new topic.

I was just editing my homepage when MOCpages had one of its increasingly regular moments where it decided it didn't want to be a website, but preferred the idea of being an onion, or a spaceship, or an elephant. Certainly not a website at any rate.

Unfortunately this means it has erased ALL the content on my homepage and given me a welcome message (which I assume new members receive when they start an account).

Is there any way my page can be recovered or have I lost everything for ever?

Also, MOCpages is becoming as reliable as an old Alfa (i.e not very) - is there a reason for this?

Thanks

Wow, umm... ok. Hey, good news first, at least all your creations are still there! So that's a bonus. As for the homepage itself... not sure how that one happened. I'm having trouble with my email right now but I'll send this issue to Sean tomorrow and we'll see what happened and how it can be fixed. Strange though... very strange...

Thanks Chris. If it's gone it's gone, at least my MOCs and pictures are intact!

Hopefully Sean can repair it though

Weird, I never heard of a problem like that.

Hhhmmmm..... Just a question- when you were editing your homepage, and pressed the continue button, did it ask you type your password? If so, I might be able to explain this.

Also, when this would happen again, copy and paste every word you said in your homepage in "Microsoft Word" and save it. So when the same thing would occur, you'll still have your homepage content saved in Microsoft Word.

No, no password request this time (it was a really small 2 second update) - it just crashed at the exact time I clicked 'OK' : (

Yeh, should have backed it up

Yeah I do a this every time. I post rather long things that take HOURS to post, so I always back mine up. Good tip though

Hey mods, any news from Sean on this? If not I'll rewrite a new page at some point, but would prefer to know first! Thanks

Hey!

I'm sorry to be coming in at the tail-end of this. I've been travelling with work, and am just now trying to get caught up with the past two weeks events.

I took a quick look at your home page, and things now seem to be in order from what I can tell. Is everything squared away with the home page at this point?

As for the other glitches, I can sympathize. MOCpages is, by far, my favorite site for Lego. Unfortunately, it also seems to have a number of flaws that flucuate from minor to severe. (Try moderating when it can take up to 30 seconds for a single page to load...HOURS to do the job properly!)

I can't fault Sean, however. We all know he's doing this mostly on his own, and all voluntarily. But I do sometimes wish we had a paying version that might result in fewer glitches and faster moderation.

Anyway, no need to respond here, UNLESS you're still seeing some homepage problems. I just basically wanted to check in.

Hi M.K

No worries. Unfortunately no, I added the main picture back, but all the rest (words, pics and links) is erased.

It's not a big problem though, these things happen. I'll re-write my homepage at somepoint to restore it.

Thanks, Ape

Ape, for the record I never heard back from Sean on this one either. I would have thought he was going to get in touch with you directly. If I hear anything else I'll let you know and hopefully we can get it squared away soon.

This happened once to me but I was editing my page for a really long time and I finally finished but after I clicked preview my home page it told me to sign in so I did and all the content of my page was erased. But I finally managed to remember some of it and get it back. I guess there isn't really a way to get your page back :(, this happens with creations too. If you wait to long on it. What you should always do before clicking preview on home page or a creation you should first copy all of the content in a word processing document and just leave it there and if it asks you for your password just put it in, and it will say Write about your creation/page or whatever and just copy and paste what's in your processing document into it and you'll be fine every time I know it's a hard thing to go through especially if you have a lot of stuff on there that took forever to do. I hope you get it back somehow. -Calvin

Same with me to, That's why I'm not really going to put any description on my page.

Well while I'm editing a page, be it a MOC or my homepage, I always go 'select all' and 'copy' before continuing. That way if part of it is erased, I can go back and paste the text in.

Yes, I do this for every creation I post to ensure it doesn't get erased. It works every time!
