how to use my pics from brickshelf ?
Join to comment
hello newbie here :)

I already have several pics at my brickshelf account, is there some way to use them instead of uploading the same pics here to mocpages ?

I tried creating a new page & putting an [img src] tag and it worked sort of, the bigger pic showed in the page (still waiting for mod approval) but the little thumb pic is blank. brickshelf also already has the thumb pics, how to use those ?

I tried poking around thru the help about pics but could not figure out what the image_zoom.php thing is & the html on help page looks incorrect with mismatched angle brackets ?

I also looked thru this list, nobody else is trying this ? at least I couldn't tell from the titles

Dude, just right click your pics, save them on the computer and just upload them. Once they are uploaded here, you can if you choose, delete them from the computer.

The image_zoom stuff implements a landing page so that when you view the larger picture it is accompanied with the usual MOCpages header and links rather than just showing the jpg alone, but it only works for images hosted on MOCpages itself. For external images you would not use it but instead just link the anchor to the large image page and the img src to the thumbnail image.

Out of curiosity, what page on MOCpages Help do you think has mismatched angle brackets? All of the examples I've looked at on there are correct.

this page
http://www.mocpages.com/help/add_photo2010.php

the 1st box after "help with layout" title has this
[a href="/image_zoom.php?id=/user_
images/1/1185039678m"]
[img src="/user_images/1/1185039
678m_THUMB.jpg" width="175"
height="162" alt="" style="margin:10
px;"][/a]

i changed the angle to square brackets, the [a] tag opens & then is closed before the [img] tag opens, then [/a] is at end. will this work ? oops (edit) i guess the [] for the [a] tag includes the parameters

not only that, after uploading 1 img with the simple uploader, my page does not look anything like what the help text says it should ? there is no html for the "main" photo, just text for my comment. i will try a few more tricks, i'd like to just create a simple template to cut/paste for links to my brickshelf pics instead of reloading them here

hmmm.. i tried adding these 2 html lines to a new page & doesn't work, the links & pics are fine, but there is a big gray blank pic at the top of the page. i tried switching thumb & full size, same effect

[a href='http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/CNT/sets/thumb/sets12.jpg_thumb.jpg']
[img src='http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/CNT/sets/sets12.jpg'>[/a]

probably i will just upload a few pics here instead of my whole brickshelf collection, its too much effort to post a pic here vs. brickshelf & some of my mocs are more appealing than others lololol

The main picture at the top of the page (the one with the Zoom icon under it) must be uploaded here - you cannot host it externally for hopefully obvious reasons.

The above link includes two examples that link to your brickshelf picture. Both show the thumb, one leads to the larger jpg directly, one leads to the brickshelf landing page which is probably a better option. I've posted them on pastebin because this forum messes up the angle brackets.

But you'd be better uploading them here anyway, because then you can set the "large" setting and get a image larger than those small thumbs, plus you don't need to deal with confusing angle brackets ;)

No, you don't get to control the HTML for the main photo, that's why it is uploaded separately. You get to control the HTML for everything else after that.

Yeah the HTML you've written is in the wrong notation.

Try using this format (note substitute the web address where I've indicated ***** I've added extra spaces which will need to be removed)

< a href="http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/*****.html"target="_blank"><img src="http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/*****"; border="0" alt=" photo *****"/>< /a >

I think you missed the point. He changed the angle brackets to square brackets only for his post here because this forum messes things up when you use angle brackets - as demonstrated by your own post where spurious semi-colons have been introduced because you used angle brackets.

thanks everybody for helping & i got the magic answer i was looking for :)

something about - the "main" photo cannot be controlled by html in the creation boxes here, but all the other pics can

yes i used square instead of angle brackets for the post here
