Ok, I've been gone for a few months, and when I get back I find this mess.
Does anybody here remember the rules?
Guys do you remember WHY we made this group, when there are so many "bionicle mocs" groups?

-Post only what you consider your best among your own stuff. Absolutely no copying.
-You can only add 1 MOC each week so as to give others more space to display their creations.
-All other MOCpages rules apply.

This group was meant to be a summary of people's best work, where you can find the good stuff witout trying to weed out every other random MOC on the page.
It's clear to me now that this is no longer the case, and this has become just another group where people post whatever they made, whenever they please (I know, the "1 each week" command doesn't work, that's nobody's fault).
But now... what's to be done about this?
Do we try to restore this group to its original purpose, of we leave it as it is?

Some person that has weird little un-custom rainbow HF MOCS saw this group saw it had a lot of people and said "hey i can add my stuf here" Thats whats happening to every bionicle group.

I agree. I think we should do something to get this group back and awsome. The Biocup will help with advertising.

This group was allways my favourite to view before I got an account, so many awsome MOCs! It crushes my soul to see this group so inactive. Let's get this group active, an evolution contest sound like a great way to get things started!

Haven't been keeping tabs on this place as often as I'd like. Certainly there needs to be some quality control. But for the most part a lot of the attention has been diverted to the externally hosted contests. I think we should keep going with this group with more contests to bring back the activity.

Now thats true. I believe at least us moderators and admins should be a bit more active here, monitorate things better, etc... You know, give the example. Periodic contest might work, also perhaps more discussion topics. Things like that.

Admittedly I haven't been able to follow this group much... It seems like people have spread after the Bio Cup was hosted on another group.

I do feel like as if this group has an 'uptight' atmosphere, where the royals of biomocing seem to have the only voice. We should encourage the members to speak out a little more than this in the conversation topics, feeling free to create one with a smart subject. This could widen the discussion.

As for the posting of finest mocs, we pretty much lost the grip due to our absence. We pretty much need to start to have a new grip for the group guidelines and to the group activity itself, starting from the admin/mod presence.

My summer holiday is starting in 2 weeks and lasts 2 1/2 months. For that time I'll at least be able to participate more.

There was actually a week setting for MOCs in the rules. Switched it to that for now since it's what we stipulate, though I think 1 a week might be a bit long. How about 2 or 3 a week?

I tend to check on the group everyday at least, just not always saying something. We I feel we need to do small contests regularly. I shy away from the larger contest since I know my work schedule prevents me from getting serious bionicle making done on a regular basis. But quick lil ones on here could be fun to try at now and then.

Once a week is pretty good since some people can make stuff quickly. But for me personally, even when I do get into a good build groove I normally don't make something amazing I feel belongs on here that often. 2 weeks to me would be ok.

Again could we have that Evolution contest?

I think we should. I'd be willing to help set it up and to judge, but as I've said, I lack credentials. :P

"If you lack credentials, just promise that you won't screw up, and then don't screw up." Simple as that.

Pfft, I've had several members in the past that lacked 'credentials'. I needed help, so I picked these suckers, I mean dedicated members to get some contests going. Seemed to work. ^_^

I've never been in a contest before so I would love to participate in the evolution contest, but I would also like to help get it started. I could make an advertisement MOC or something. :)

If the decision was mine, I'd say even 1 per month. I just checked, and I posted only 12 MOCs here, those I think are my best Bionicles. Setting a limit forces people to choose more carefully what they post.

I agree with Yuri, this group should be for everyone's very best creations only.

I dunno, I'm always evolving my designs from time to time, so if I have made something awesome but reached my limit, that could be annoying. I can't remember if there is a limit on how many you can display, as opposed to limiting how many times you can post. Does that make sense?

Why?

BTW, I kinda agree with the posting limit. Its a more 'forced' decision, but might work.

Take some essential pieces with you and a camera, I'm sure that you can pass the first few rounds without much trouble, you are a nice builder.

How about making it for every 2 weeks?
Since once a month from once a week is a big change.
I don't disagree with the once a month thing but try and middle area and see if it works first.

Maybe something else to bug Sean about lol.

How about a limit on how many you can show (let's say 10), and you can freely change between them (however long we make it). But yeah, effectively always showing 10 of your best, and those 10 will always change to be your best, as you will have to make the decision to drop one of the lesser creations in favour of a new better one.

Hope that clears up what I was trying to say earlier.

I'm not sure if that's the best way to go Chris. Since per that rule people can just drop an old creation and add a new one all the time. Such I thing as how many total creations you have submitted, hinders us, I think it helps. If they are all of great quality, that just gives people more to look at in the collection.

All MOCs are not created equal :P While I've no doubt that any method will bring about exploitation, I think my idea would bring about a showcase ideal. The progression of showing all your best things. If people want to see your old best things, they're still there, but often advancing designs will do that, always dropping something older you designed for something better you designed.

Hmmm ok I'm starting to come around to this idea. How would it be implemented?

Easiest way would be to have it as a group function. However it probably will only apply to certain groups, and given it would be an option, it may be skipped altogether by group admins/ownes.

Which means it would be up to the members themselves to be as honest as possible. Given admins and mods can also do some housekeeping to what's displayed, it may end up being us deciding which other member's creations to remove and which to stay, which is even less desirable.

Well, it was just a thought. Might happen in the future, might not.

Well, that's exactly why we have the option to remove items from the group. If we have a standard, we can enforce it.
I suggest when we think something is sub-par, we check the author's page and see if his other stuff is better or worse than what he posted.

I have read the sobering discussion. I can empathize with the feelings shared, and hope you can reach a resolution good for you Admins. To that end, I was just curious if a Full Ban on new additions is in effect? I haven't tried adding a MOC since February, but can't add new. I Do NOT want to be a nuisance, I was just curious - I also looked for another thread more appropriate to this question - but as my answer likely lies in the Topic being discussed here, I ~knocked~. Thank you in advance for your time in responding, and Cheers!

I suppose I had a more "self confidence boosting" idea than a "We don't like this *removed*" idea. To essentially let them figure out what is poor/average/awesome for themselves.

Are members actually notified that their creation is removed? Wouldn't be useful if they didn't learn that their creation was not quite to standard.

Hey Chris.

I think something may be wrong with the group. I haven't added a moc to this group in about 2 weeks, and it should be allowing me to add a new moc right? I had uloaded another moc earlier this week and haven't been able to add it to the group yet.

Any ideas on how to fix this/what the problem is?

Toggled with the settings as it was happening to me as well. Seems to be fixed now. Try it out.
